At Google’s ‘breakfast’ event today Sundar Pichai, Google’s head of Android and Chrome, touted some impressive stats when it comes to tablets and Google Play.

Pichai declared that they’ve successfully activated 70 million Android tablets and stated that one of every two tablets sold in the world are running Android. About 10% of all Android tablets sold were the Nexus 7, which is a pretty fantastic number. As for specific Google Play stats, there’s now a stunning one million app available to download (Apple has 900,000), plus over 50 billion app downloads.

Google has also announced a dedicated Play Games app, which will facilitate multiplayer gaming for Android’s millions of users. Like the back-end Play Games APIs that launched at Google I/O in May, the Play Games app allows users to find opponents in a number of supported games, check achievements and leaderboards, and generally follow what’s new and great in the Android world.

Lastly, Google is adding a dedicated Textbooks section to the Play Store, after announcing its Education intentions at Google I/O in May.
