The HTC One Mini is less a rumour as an inevitability at this point, scrawled across the internet like a pigeon above an archway. The de facto baby brother (or sister) of the venerable HTC One will sport a familiar design in a 4.3-inch body with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels.

Other specs, based on leaked benchmark results, confirm a 1.4Ghz dual-core Snapdragon 400 CPU, which has a lower clock than previous S4 family devices but contains an improved Adreno 305 GPU from the prior generation. The One Mini will also sport 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage (around 12GB usable), a 4MP Ultrapixel camera, identical to the Big One, and a 1.6MP wide-angle front-facing shooter for selfies.

The One Mini looks to be the successor to the One S, which is also a 4.3-inch device. The improved build quality, improved GPU, more efficient CPU and higher-resolution screen, in addition to an improved operating system (Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5) makes for a compelling upgrade, especially if HTC can keep the price below $400.

It’s not known whether Canada will see the One Mini, as there is less of a need for mid-range devices in the subsidy-focused North American market, but it would fit nicely in the space the One S formerly occupied.
