RIM officially rebrands to simply “BlackBerry”

One of the major announcements that Waterloo-based Research In Motion unveiled today, apart from the new all-touch BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10, is that it’ll now go by the name of “BlackBerry.” Gone are the days of RIM. In addition, the company will also be shifting their stock ticker to BBRY on Nasdaq, BB and TSX.

Now, officially, we can finally say RIP RIM. Hello “BlackBerry.”

    Glad to finally see the day come through. Seemed like it would never happen after delays. I hope the best for them especially as a Canadian company.

    Does anybody think that it’s coincidental timing that the Nexus 4 is suddenly now available on the Play Store and coming to carriers first week of February and that Apple announced a larger capacity 128GB iPad? Seems like there were trying to steal some attention and spotlight from RIMM.

    I’m really surprised. It suggests that they’re going to remain a cellphone maker and services company. I was expecting them to morph into a lifestyle technology company, developing tech for cars, home automation, home theater, etc. that combine with cellphones to create a certain experience.

    If you look at some of the patents that Apple has been awarded lately, you see that they’re starting to head in that direction too.

    Now I wonder if my stock app will change the RIM to BB automatically for me. Probably not.
