Hailo launched their taxi cab hailing service in Toronto on September 26th on iPhone and Android (soon to be available on both Windows Phone and BlackBerry). The app has been met with success as they’ve experienced over 30,000 downloads. Hailo gives users the opportunity to hail down the nearest cab via a 2-click process on your device. The closest cab driver then calls and picks you up (you’re then billed via the app with the debit or credit card you registered with). It’s a simple and seamless process, but there’s also competition on the road from rival Uber.

To set them apart, Hailo has struck up a partnership with Molson Coors and will promote a safe holiday season by giving away $1 million worth of free cab rides. Starting today until New Year’s Eve about 100 bars and restaurants will be given $10 vouchers that customers can redeem. Hailo stated in an email to us that “Users enter the holiday discount code and a ten dollar credit is applied to their account. This credit will then be used towards their next Hailo ride and show up on their email receipt.”

As for the participating establishments, here’s a few that you might recognize:

The Ballroom, Boston Pizza, Club V, Crocodile Rock, Fox & Fiddle, Fox & Firkin, Friar & Firkin, Hoops, Jack Astor’s, Pheasant & Firkin, Real Sports, Tortilla Flats and Upfront Bar & Grill.

Great to see, hopefully people can use Hailo on their phones when they’re plastered!

Wow , Great Idea to bad we dont have this out west 🙁

I like the Hailo app – works well and has reasonable permissions. Also, Hailo doesn’t charge you above regular fares the way that uber does.

Also, Hailo was a sponsor of the Android conference.

But a $10 voucher does not equal free. I don’t mean to look a gift voucher in the mouth, the promotion is great but the description is not accurate.

If they released on BlackBerry 10, they can bill directly to your mobile phone bill, no credit or debit card needed!

In the above list, I think we only have Boston Pizza here in Ottawa, and I refuse to eat there, Gross food there. So this taxi Holiday promo will be useless for me 🙁
