During Apple’s iPhone 5 keynote on Wednesday it was revealed that the Canadian carriers of choice to launch the LTE-enabled device would be Rogers, Bell, TELUS, Fido, Virgin and Koodo Moible. There wasn’t an indication of other carriers joining the mix. However, taking a peak over at regional carriers MTS (Manitoba), and SaskTel (Saskatchewan) show them both primed to release the iPhone 5 and proudly reveal it’s ‘coming soon.”

According to a press release by MTS they note that the release date will be 1-week later on September 28st. No official word yet from SaskTel.

why does MTS never get any new phones besides the iphone, they really need to step it up.

  • pats

    looks like iphone 4s

  • Thomson

Who cares about these small regional carriers anyways? Besides the people using them?

    • tooold

Who cares about the big 3 except the people using them? Your point being?

    • graison

i didn’t realize the big 3 offered unlimited data plans, like sasktel does

  • mike

mobilesyrup enough with all the over filling all your news bout iphone 5. its getting pretty dull. iphones are garbage and aren’t news worthy. nough said.

  • Allan

I am wondering when NorthernTel Mobility will get the iPhone 5. When the 4S came out it was over a month after everyone else got it. We got just 4 at my store and sold out in less than an hour.

I just want to be able to buy the nano-sim from one of the providers. I do not want it tied to a data plan as every where I go has wifi. I can pick up a fully unlocked iphone from apple or somewhere else on the internet (or from my friend who switches phones more often than his underwear).

Now if we had wind mobility in our area with there $40 a month unlimited voice, text and data plan I would jump on it. But Saddly the prices are cray around here with data starting at $60 plans and going way up.

Wind throttles you after just 5 GB and does not have LTE. Also check what their plans actually include and what costs extra. If you also research their technology their “towers” do not cover as large of an area as towers belonging to Bell or TELUS.

MTS now has their own LTE network with unlimited data. I’m going to go in on Monday and grab an LTE-ready SIM and switch over for my unlocked HTC Raider…

Does anyone knows if WIND will get iphone5 or if I get an unlOcked iPhone will WIND sim work On it?

    • EvanKr

The iPhone 5 doesn’t support the AWS 1700 MHz spectrum used by WIND, so chances are they’ll never get it. You could theoretically use it on their network, but you’d be roaming on Rogers the entire time, and would be paying outrageous roaming fees.
