HTC to release a One V refresh codenamed Proto with 1Ghz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor?

HTC hasn’t really kept true to its word on lowering the number of units it releases in 2012. In swift succession the company released the One X, One S and One V, and we thought that was going to be it for a while. But then the Desire C emerged with its entry-level specs, and now we’re looking at a follow-up to the One V, codenamed ‘Proto’.

The device is expected to one-up the One V in a number of areas, including a nice bump in processing speed courtesy of a 1Ghz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor. The rest is pretty standard, though: 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage, 5MP camera with flash, and 7.2Mbps HSPA+ baseband. But we’re intrigued at the bump in screen size: a 4-inch WVGA 800×480 pixel resolution.

Not sure when and where this will come to market, but considering HTC’s flagging fortunes this doesn’t sound like the hit they need.

This is what it should’ve been in the first place!

It doesnt have the best spec out there but i could see this being a hit if its priced competitively.. an s4 at 1 ghz is still blazing fast. I dont know about everyone else but a 4″ screen is perfect for me.. not too small and not too big. Release it with Jelly Bean and this thing will be buttery smooth

Thanks for this info. Why operators send out SIM cards set not to reqeust a PIN when the phone starts and then don’t let us know what the * ^* )* PIN is in order to enable it and change it is beyond me!

    I’d buy it.

I’d rather buy it than the crappy Lg optimus 2x that I have now… sad part is that this will probably be cheaper despite being newer.

    is that a hockey stick?

Get rid of the stupid chin.

  • Dex

The Chin is actually a brilliant design feature, this shape means that when the phone is dropped nine times out of ten it lands, first on the soft rubber pad, then onto it’s back rather than on the glass, and when it does land face down the metal chin takes most of the impact. Miss my legend….

For those who have an HTC one V, they should do some sort of trade/upgrade.
