RIM will be seeing an updated version of the BlackBerry Dev Alpha hardware to developers this fall in a quest to improve the overall user experience. According to two tweets sent by the official BlackBerryDev account, the improvements will be subtle — a relocated microSIM slot and a slightly new design — but the phone’s looks resemble the Nokia Lumia 900.
We had a chance to see some of what BlackBerry 10 could do earlier in the year, and we’re extremely excited about the finished product which is expected in early 2013.
The device that will be seeded to developers is being referred to as Dev Alpha B, though we’re not sure whether that will be the finished name come September.
What do you think of the updated design? Could it be that is what the first BlackBerry 10 device will look like?

daniel bader that is disgusting what you just did. That is one of the worst pictures you could have possibly used….ever. and then to really ask if people like the design? you can’t even make out what the picture really is….wow is all i can say. if i didn’t know better you are taking shots at RIM. Even your playbook camera phone shot of an article from best buy. garbage

RIPPER – You are obviously a blind fanboy. Based on the iPhone5 proposed specs, it will be Apple who is dead. 70%+ of Apple’s profit comes from the iPhone which hasn’t changed at ALL since 2007. So keep your Apple a*s kissing mouth shut!

But seriously… The look of this device is hopefully not the direction RIM is headed or they will be dead in the water come March 2013 or whenever they get around to actually releasing BB10. Recently, they can’t get the Playbook OS 2.1 out of Beta, missed the July 31st target for the 4G PlayBook that no one is asking for and the radio silence from the company is deafening. New CMO – how would anyone know?

Ryan gets it! This is a developer phone….think of it as a working prototype. Nothing more. RIM is smart to keep the actual design under wraps until it is close to launch.

I’m not sure why this isn’t clear to other commenters: this is a developer phone! It is not a consumer phone. It is not the final product to be released in a few months. Its sole purpose is so that developers can test our applications. That means what it has in common with the real phone: screen resolution, and hardware features we might want to test (like NFC, GPS, WiFi). Developers don’t need much else, and so the Dev Alpha doesn’t include much else. If you think it is ugly, that’s fine, because nobody is ever going to be using it in public as an actually phone.

That this is an Alpha device and isn’t clear to the other commenters, is because the majority of them are wall street astro turfers taking part in an online campaign to help take down RIM. They are hoping that if RIM’s stock price can be knocked down more, they can be taken over and taken apart and sold off. All so a few individuals can make billions in the process.

Agreed, I have never seen anything like this in the industry. Nokia’s stock price is $2.38 and yet gets no where near the attention. The attacks against RIM are grossly inaccurate and completely unfounded. There is absolutely nothing to gain in the demise of any tech company, or company period. Not the economy, the industry, or end users. I do not want to live in a bipolar mobile world where the only two mindsets are Android and Apple. There’s lots of room for more.

This looks like the perfect brick-form phone. Grippy in hand and very practical. Perfect for those who love minimalism design.
