Update available for Rogers HTC One X users, fixes Wi-Fi issues

Rogers just announced on Twitter that there’s an OTA update for HTC One X users. This bumps up your device to v1.94.631.3 and the file size is about 67MB. Rogers noted that this update improves Wi-Fi stability and Media Link performance. Go forth an check to see if it’s arrived for you: Menu >> Settings >> About phone >> System software updates >> Check now.

Does it also fix the random non-notification of incoming text messages?

    • Eluder

So far for me I’d say it has rectified that issue as well.

    • timmina

after the upgrade will this bump me up to bb10?

  • jbarns

thanks for the heads up, hopefully it does fix that text issue.. only gripe with this phone ATM.

  • FOTTL

i never had wifi issues but okay..

Go away anti-RIM astroturfers. We get it, some wall street suits want to take down the stock price so it can be bought for pennies on the dollar. I haver owned a BB device but would prefer a Canadian tech giant stays Canadian. Instead of pieced off by some never accomplished anything hacks.

And what does this have to do with HTC and the OneX update? RIM always feels like home but not in 2012 they have to earn my business back in 2013 when BB10 Alpha Beta Charlie Echo finally launches.

This phone kicks some butt, but why it takes so long for Rogers to push an update really blows my mind. ANYWAYS I never had any serious wifi issues but did notice the connection would drop from time to time. Can’t wait for Jelly Bean in 2016 to get pushed by Rogers so we can have great multi-tasking.

I find most of the delay issues with text messaging are fixed. Scrolling through previous messages are instant now. Wifi is working better as I did used to drop from time to time

Hello fellow One X user. I only made the comment because of the other person who mentioned bb10. This is a constant thing now, doesn’t matter what the story is it seems like, there’s a negative RIM comment almost all the time. It’s annoying. It’s disgustingly obvious astro turfing.

My last 4 phones have been HTC, I just dont have it out for RIM. Their success can only help competition and Canada’s tech industry.

it’s fun to read those comments

    Wife will be happy!

  • gagz

how you install it ?\it keeps on saying veryfying update package..

  • Claudiu

Will the update work if I unlocked the phone and I am using it with a different provider?

  • Tomatoes

Holy crap that took awhile for some fundamental issues. I couldn’t take it myself and sold the One X months ago. Lucky I didn’t wait. I think I am going to leave Rogers soon if this is how long they take. I think their American roaming partner AT&T released it right away.

People owning Android devices and then complaining that service providers are slow to push out updates = lol. Pro tip: Venture over to XDA and indulge in what Android fanboys claim is the reason to use the OS – extreme, individualized customization. You ‘choose’ to be held hostage by Rogers since, unlike Apple users, you actually have alternatives…

Oh and this phone, its screen, and a proper ROM = simply sublime.

OCD about warranties people can’t root until a year later and believe it or not, some people prefer Android even when not rooting. I know it is hard to take criticism about your phone of choice but the One X has issues that no update or rom can fix as well.

  • PhoneScience

Hmm, I’m installing it, and I’m stuck on the loading screen; the progress bar is full, but a small image of an MicroSD card is to the right of it. Any ideas?

  • Android Fanboy

Funny how Rogers is releasing ROMs still on android 4.0.3. Asia already has the HTC One XL Rom at 4.0.4 where there are a number of improvements at the android core. Even an option built into sense to choose if the multitask button should be used as a menu.

Really wished carriers placed less of a role in governing software updates

  • Dirty Panda

Anybody know how to do the update if I’m using it unlocked on Telus? When I check for updates just says none avail. Thanks.

  • Colin

Tomatoes – Never claimed that the One X was perfect, but it’s a solid phone with a great hardware package. All phones have problems, but I’m personally glad that my phone’s greatest flaws are/will be correctable. There are plenty of phones where that isn’t the case. The S3, for example, is a great device but it’s terrible build quality and overrated AMOLED screen are permanent problems.

    • Tomatoes

Lol There is nothing wrong with the GS3 in terms of build quality or screen. The One X does have some build quality and screen issues that software doesn’t fix though. Not to mention the severe lack of ram needed for proper multi tasking.

But hey, if it makes you feel better about your poor purchase, sure, the GS3 is plasticky and the screen is overrated. LOL

  • Brandon

My HTC One X is unlocked and on the koodo network. I was able to update with no issues.

  • mikey

Any word on whether telus will issue a similar update?

  • Lyndon

I tried the update yesterday morning. After I rebooted my phone it seemed like it was all messed up, but over the course of the day it smartened up and it has been working good since.

  • Amkof

Tomatoes – I thought you were going to have some decent reasons for your comments against the HTC One X in your reply. However your true colours came out as just being a GS3 fanboy. You gave non-answers to reasons why the HTC One X is a “poor purchase” decision and that GS3 is better “because”.

I’m going to side with Colin here, every phone has its issues, but the only ones that are really important are the ones that interfere with how you individually use them. You’re ragging on the HTC One X for reasons I do not understand based on my use of it. I have a nit pick here and there with it (mainly the bluetooth can’t keep a stable media connection with my car and will drop for a second every 15 minutes or so), but nothing as dramatic as you make the issues seem.
