Update: Some Nexus 7 pre-orders shipping within three business days

Are you eagerly awaiting your Nexus 7 to ship from Google’s headquarters? According to a canned message on their support line, the 7-inch tablets will begin shipping within three business days, which brings us into the middle of next week. Because Canada is on the list of the first countries to receive the tablet, we’re sure that a number of you who have pre-ordered are on that list. However, retailers such as Staples say that their stock will be in by July 23rd, which brings us into the following week. Either way, Canadians should receive their tablets by the end of July, though likely much sooner.

The device, which we really liked, is severely hobbled by a lack of content services in Canada, but we’re hoping that down the road Google, like Apple did with iTunes, expands its services to include music, magazine subscriptions and movie/television purchases.

Update: Looks like some Canadian retailers have started selling the Nexus 7 and are already sold out. Staples says they will have another shipment coming on Tuesday, July 17th.

or drop into staples and purchase and still get the $25 giftcard

  • David

There’s a discussion on XDA, around 8200 responses right now, and so far there’s been a ton of Americans get shipping confirmation, but I haven’t seen any Canadians yet.

We’ll see how long it takes before they get to us.

“The device, which we really liked, is severely hobbled by a lack of content services in Canada”

Come on, given that the platform is wide open for any content provider (unlike the iPad where Apple is working very hard to extra a big cut from any content competitors) I don’t think they deserve such a harsh judgement.

Doesn’t that openness to competition make it a better content platform then the iPad! Eventually, that open competition should lead to better prices for Nexus users then iPad users.

    *grabbyhands* COME TO MAMMA.

“we’re hoping that down the road Google, like Apple did with iTunes, expands its services to include music, magazine subscriptions and movie/television purchases”
that would be the sh*t ! And don’t forget google voice !

  • Jay

got mine already.. in Edmonton

  • Aaron C

My credit card has been charged so mine should’ve started the shipping process :D .

  • MauiLove

Does anyone know if we…ie Canadians…will have access to Google wallet on the nexus 7? Thx. :-)

  • htcmachine

You dont really need any content on your nexus. Just install utorrent on it and you are golden! All of a sudden everything is FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • EmperumanV

Ordered mine from NCIX on July 11th and got an email today to pick it up. SHYEA

  • Xanthe

Called Staples in London Ontario this morning around 10am. Asked if they had the Nexus 7 in stock. Salesperson said yes. I asked if he could hold one for me. He responded “I will, till the end of today.”

    I picked my Nexus 7 up about 2pm today. LOVING IT… so glad I didn’t pre-order!!!

    • Zudeo

Hey, what are your thoughts on it? I have an iPad but it’s always good to hear opinions for new tech!

  • Steve

Does that mean if I buy the N7 in the US, I won’t be having the content limitations issue when using it in Canada?

  • Colin

All staples stores have stock but have been told not to sell.

Google really f’d up this whole release. Random US retailers are selling, play store orders are not, most Canadian retailers have been told to not release, some are breaking that. Europeans have been receiving shipments all day from retailers.

    Weak sauce

  • Wayne

Memory Express in Calgary is already selling them.

  • Xan

At the mall and various stores are selling them. There’s nothing orderly about the release. Google really screwd this up. I prefer ordered first day from Google play paid Extra $20 for shipping and now ill get it later than everyone else.

  • Kid.Canada

Blackberry Playbook > iPad > Microsoft Surface > 1980s Computers > String with two cups on both ends > Message tied to a Pigeon > Any Android Tablet

And no I don’t have my arrows pointing the wrong way!

  • ddotmada

Google is a joke they screwed up the galaxy nexus launch and now this one. And they have no carriers to blame this time.

  • Angryfrenchcanadian

Google is really treating canadians like crap.
Americans who ordered as late as the 10th july are receiving shipping notices and we are still in complete darkness. Can’t even have an answer for an email sent 2 weeks ago…

First and last time I order something directly from Google.

  • Ghostrider

I had ordered mine on the launch day, 27th June.
Nothing yet, cc not charged, no shipping emails.

  • THS

I hope they start shipping em soon….

    Waiting in Toronto…

  • Jimbob

    Good new?

“Just got off the phone with another rep who knew where Canada was (thank the lord) and checked my order and said that it is being processed and should be out for shipping tonight and delivered for Monday/Tuesday. ”

    found in XDA crazy thread

  • ddotmada

Yah ordered the first day they became available and nothing. No email or CC charge. Why does every company suck at launches other then Apple. They either announce a product that is released so far into the future or screw up the release.

  • Sandman2749

I got tired of waiting and grabbed a 16 gb from Staples in south calgary today. I had pre ordered an 8 gb and tried change a week ago but they said it was too late. Now, when.the pre order comes in, I’m sending it back. Saved the shipping. I’ll never pre order a damn thing from Google after this.

  • JOE

futureshop & bestbuy used to list NEXUS7 for AUGUST10, now they’ve changed to next thursday JULY19 =)

  • MauiLove

Picked one up tonight at Staples in Ottawa South. Went into another Staples and was told they did not have any and that I had to preorder so called a different location when i got home and picked it up a few hours later. Staples seems to be the go to store.

  • htc

thats bs why the hell did i spend 20 on delivery just to have to wait another week. Its very dissapointing. I am not pre ordering from google ever again. When the next nexus phone comes out i am walking to who ever sells it

  • MauiLove

Remember the benefit of preordering is that you will receive the device just not necessarily be the first to receive it…at least that is the experience I have from reading the forums. To the one person who gave me a thumbs up for my Google wallet question it does come preloaded and with a $10 value so can finally try it out first hand. And with the $25 Google play Bonus and free movie it’s a pretty good value.

  • Ivan

This is BS, Google better add an extra $20 onto people who pre-ordered from them for botching the release. People who pre-ordered should get it first before any retails gets any stock, as retailers can’t be trusted to not sell before a certain date.

I hope the retailers which sold these ahead of time are banned from selling any Google products in the future…or get the stock 2 weeks after every other one who stuck to the release date.

  • Sybil

Still no news this morning about the Nexus 7 I pre-ordered on July the 2nd on Google Play Store. No CC charge, no mail, and I agree with all of you who have decided to not pre-order again from Google Store. Lesson learned. Patience is the only thing what we have left until the Precious comes and knock at my door…

  • morque

Ye, Google really dropped the ball on this one, let’s hope for a better launch next time. But I probably will stay away from the play store until they improve upon their communication skills and not treat loyal customers like dirt. Withholding valuable information (e.g., ship date and retail availability) can be considered to intentionally mislead consumers and Google should receive a fine for this poorly handled mess.

And those who pre-ordered deserve a minimum refund of shipping fee or other forms of compensation.

  • EarthJuice

I just got home with my Nexus 7. Picked it up from Staples at Gerrard Square in Toronto. When I called ahead, they said they had 2 or 3 left. I just booked it. Before that I called the Front Street East/Parliament location. They had not received delivery yet.

My new baby is charging right now. Like a sleeping newborn, I can’t take my eyes off her.

  • snardos

I don’t understand why you would preorder something online and expect to get it first. You still have to wait for shipping. The idea of preordering online is that you are guaranteed to get one and not have to wait in line at the store, or drive from store to store and hope they have one in stock.

I agree they messed up the launch though. They should have made it more exciting the way apple does to get more publicity. Most people probably don’t even know that Google just launched a new tablet.

    • Sybil

Is that really the purpose of pre-orders? Your idea is not bad, but don’t you think that, consumers guarantee the supplier that they will buy one as well? It’s a give and take : Mr Supplier, I assure you that you are going to get my money, way ahead of others, then treat me with respect!

  • ddotmada

Per ordered IPad 3 got it the day it became available in stores. Per ordered blurays and games get them the day of release or before. Per ordered Nexus 7 still waiting after it has been released with no notification of shipping. You tell me which one isn’t the norm.

  • samer

For the record, if u pay usvideo.ca 50$ a year, u can get this US content and use the google play store to its fullest

but who does that really, we all use torrents and load the tablet up with free content, and google music works

so i dont seee a ‘lack of content’ at all

    • ddotmada

I get the US play store on my computer and I can’t buy video or magazines because it looks for a US credit card number also.

  • Epidot

Preordered on the 27th. Moderately annoyed mainly because of the lack of communication. Hoping to hear something by end of day tomorrow but not feeling optimistic at this point.

  • Sub-Joker

so all of the complain is for who’s gonna get it first?? pre-ordered customers vs who didn’t??
and that’s by like a couple of days or so time frame??
seriously, ppl are kinda kiddish sometime. I didn’t know canada is full of those Beverly hills spoiled kids. go cry to mammy not mobile syrup.

    • morque

Thank you for defending google blatantly without even understanding the whole picture. I won’t waste time with you but perhaps you will see the light some day if you pre-ordered a device through the play store some time in the future.

The customer service is just HORRENDOUS I have to say and the apparent lack of communication didn’t make it much better. That’s all I will say for now.

  • Xan

I was on the fence between the Nexus 16gb and ipad2 for a bday gift but I’ve been so thoroughly disappointed with the whole pre order process from Google play I’m just going to cancel my order and buy the ipad2 for $100 more. It’s a shame cause I really like Google products. I have an android phone. Too bad I really wanted to make this work but the delay just leaves me with a source taste and no choice since team bday is this Thursday and it looks like no delivery by then.

  • Simble

So, did Google ever give a release date?

  • katzwisker

Pre-ordered July 4th, got the email today saying shipping in another 1-2 weeks. Went down to Best Buy in NW Calgary- they had just received ANOTHER shipment. Picked up the 16GB model for $259.99 + GST. Cheaper than the preorder- no extra $20 shipping. Good bye Google Play!!!!!!
