Facebook app for BB10 looks slick in leaked renders

We just heard from RIM earlier today that BB10 is on track for a January release, and will be “without compromise.” One such essential app that users will inevitably flock to is Facebook, which is among the most popular native apps on iOS, Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phone.

In a series of leaked slides showing off the interface, it looks like Facebook for BB10 will hew quite closely to the existing native app interfaces while maintaining something of a Cascades-like design. The interface design, which originated with RIM’s purchased of TAT (The Astonishing Tribe) in 2010, makes swiping from screen to screen a cinch, without losing your original place. As we showed you in our brief BB10 demo, this is a consistent gesture throughout the operating system, and due to the extensive native SDK and Sharing API provided by RIM, developers will be encouraged to create apps that have a similar look and feel, much like in iOS.

Check after the break for another example of the Facebook app, which seems to be coming along nicely.

RIM please come and save us from crappy OSes such as android

    • Capital

Android is far more capable than BlackBerry’s OS. #fact

    • Colton

      Too little, too late.

    • skullan

Android may be more capable than the current BBOS, however, QNX has been around, is deployed in many real-time environments, has a micro-kernel which allows for meant for small, fast operations and finally has been well developed for.

So, if BBOS 10 is released and fails, it won’t be because of a poor platform, it will be due to trying to turn the car travelling 100mph, down-hill, 3 feet in front of the sink hole.

In this case, the car is a vision and a company.

    slick?? really?? looks like s**t!!

  • BBMan

Looks like a Galaxy SII with a crap company name on it oO

  • angelo

This is something good for RIM especially with all the negative press they are getting. Really excited for BB10! Will it be worth the wait? That’s what RIM has to prove in 2013.

  • J

    Lmao

  • Vengefulspirit99

    @BBMan that’s exactly what I thought.

Sorry rim but it’s too late this time around.

I understand some people on this site dont like blackberry devices but they are a major canadian company and you should be hoping for them succeed with bb10.

they provide tons of jobs for many canadians and if they fail more people will loose their

so put ur own opinion aside and hope for them to come back strong

you dont have to buy their product but you need to hope for their failure

    • Pata

Personally I base every company, Canadian or not, on the strength of their products and not their mailing address. Only if a Canadian company is willing and able to truly compete on a global scale will I be willing to cheer them on. So far in my eyes, RIM has been unable and, until recently, unwilling to do so.

Should I have cheered on Zellers when they showed that they weren’t willing to compete with the likes of Walmart? They didn’t do anything about pricing, they didn’t diversify their merchandise, they didn’t try to one-up Walmart into the digital marketplace here in Canada, etc; they closed their eyes and tried to ignore what was happening around them. Do we Canadians really want to cheer on and support such a weak attitude?

I’m all for patriotism, as long as it isn’t blind patriotism.

    • shootpoo

Right on Pata, couldn’t have put it better myself.

    • Stuntman

I will cheer for RIM when they make a device that I like. I use a BB phone and iPhone at work and an Android for personal use. Of the three, I like my Android phone more. I personally do not like my BlackBerry for various reasons. It’s just not for me. Maybe BB10 will change things. Until that happens, I will not support them. I challenge RIM to make a device that I like more than any others. I’ll find out if RIM can do that come next year.

*you dont need to hope for their failure

  • Louis

    just look like another nortel…

  • anona

How long before Apple sues for the image portaying a touch-screen device shapped as a rectangle with rounded corners?

  • Mellowie

I like the look of it, and hope it lands well. Lack of apps never bothered me much has long as the OS is worthwhile.

  • JBR

HAHAHAAHAHA…… OOOoohhhhh, BB10 looks great in pictures that someone drew. I’m going to draw a slick render of the new space vehicle that I’m going to pilot during my mission to Mars. It’s going to launch right around the time that BB10 does. The renders will be awesome.

2013 is too late. These devices need to happen now while Windows Phone is non-existent in the Canadian market and Android sorts out their fragmentation issues. Big device releases before January will only continue to hurt them.

Right now it’s almost too late to be innovative, they need to make a splash NOW, not when they’re forced to compete with the iPhone 5 and some insane quad-core Android phones.

  • John

Really? That’s what you guys call slick? I think it’s looks very bad.

  • Simon

I see on this post a lot of people that probably don’t own a playbook, if they would, they’d realize how much potential there is for QNX, I’ve been using a Blackberry for the last 12 years, pretty much owned almost every devices they were and trust me BBOS is NOTHING like QNX !!! QNX doesn’t crash, you don’t need to do a reboot each and every time you do an upgrade and most importantly,NO HOUR GLASS !! Before bashing RIM based on what you know from BBOS, do yourself a favor, try a playbook for a week and imagine it polished with phone and BBM capabilities and then and only then, comeback on this site and try to do a honest assesment of the future of BlackBerry. The future will be bright for BlackBerry, it’s was the perfect COMMUNICATION DEVICE and it will bring communications and interactions with what surrounds us at higher heights.
