YouTube for Android 4.0 brings new tablet interface, offline playback to ICS-based devices

Among the quieter announcements today was an update to YouTube for Android that revamped its tablet interface and brought offline downloads to the service.

The former was greatly needed, as the Nexus 7 is a perfect content consuming device; the latter is a nice bonus. YouTube downloads either shows that it think you’ll want to watch offline, based on your previous browsing habits or, if you tell it to, will just download any and all clips saved in your ‘Watch Later’ list. The preloading can be done over WiFi or, when charging, over 3G.

These features are only available to devices running Android 4.0+, but they’re pretty impressive nonetheless.

If you’re running a newer device, head to Google Play to download the new YouTube 4.0 with offline playback.

if greatness = watching mainly crap on the internet then yes….most cases people aren’t using youtube to better themselves. I guess this is what is driving smartphones these days.

You must live a sad life.

YouTube is not all about crap on the internet. There’s ALOT of useful content on there. And no one is making you watch the “crap”.

i actually live a very happy life. and i guess you didn’t see the mainly part in my sentence. They do have some good stuff but majority of it is garbarge especially when you are trying to find the good stuff. if you think sitting in front of the computer all day is a good life…you my friend might be the one who is sad!

YouTube is not crap if you know what you’re looking for and how to find it. For those like me who have long commutes to and from work every day will find this very useful. There’s plenty of good TV shows from the 70s through the 90s. And I’d rather do that then pay for something like Bell’s mobile TV only to watch 90% of what is real junk on today’s so-called TV.

i agree, if you can find videos that are actually what they are titled it is beneficial. I also was making the point, The new age is all about entertainment and that is what is selling devices. When your bored i’m sure you don’t download apps and go to youtube to read about history? You want to watch TV…thats all i was saying. they are sucking us in.
