OtterBox introduces Armor series cases: waterproof, dust proof, drop proof, crush proof

This is ridiculously cool. Remember the Sonim Bolt that we reviewed last week? The only phone certified for various hazardous environments by being dust-, water-, pressure-, drop-, oil-, and everything-proof? OtterBox is bringing that to the iPhone 4/4S.

Later next month, the company renowned for its protective smartphone cases, is introducing an Armor case for the iPhone 4 and 4S. While not a whole lot is known about the product at this time, it boasts a “waterproof, thermo-plastic shell, precision fit to 1/3000th of an inch in accuracy, and [is] locked down behind a medical-grade stainless steel latch.”

Previously OtterBox has released the Defender series of cases for many smartphones, but the Armor series looks to be significantly thinner and more versatile; less a box and more a day-to-day shell.

We’ll be sure to bring you all the extreme testing a case like this deserves when we get a review unit. It goes on sale on June 24th, and we’ve reached out to the company to see if they’ll be bringing the Armor case to any other devices, including the Galaxy S III.

Hopefully they don’t just make them for the iPhone. They could at least make one for the Gnex.

OK I would like this on an Android with close to a 5 inch screen OH and CM9.

  • trev

Wonder if its gonna be the price of an entry level phone.

    • Max

I’m guessing it will be about $79.99 MSRP.

  • lol

they should just make the shell for the next shitty iphone instead, atleast it might pass a drop test then

If you need a case like this, then maybe you should own a cellphone.

    I think I’ll let my One S breathe…

But will it blend….that is the question.

I wondered how long it would take Otter to make something to match the Lifeproof case that looks VERY similar. We retail that at Future Shop and Best Buy for $79.99 so I suspect this will be in the same price range.

Reviving these again? They had this three years ago and it would not sell. Now with lifeproof out, it may do better, just remember them being so clunky.

Nice idea but wouldn’t seem practical for me. I had bought a $35 otterbox and returned it after finding a $2 one with built it stand that i love

If this is air-tight, how will it effect call quality? I know it’s crazy to think someone might actually use their cellphone to call someone these days, but how clear will it be (for both you and the person on the other end)? I had to widen the hole by the microphone on my OB Defender after people telling me that I sounded muffled after putting it on.
