Samsung Galaxy S III rooted prior to release, stock ROM and wallpapers available to download

Just in case you were worried whether the Galaxy S III would be developer-friendly like its two predecessors, put aside your fears. Not only has the stock ROM already leaked and been made available for download, but hero developer Chainfire has managed to root the device without even having it on hand. This bodes very well for a custom ROM barrage out of the gate.

The ROM is based on Android 4.0.4, the latest version released by Google, and comes with Samsung’s new Nature UX overlay, formerly known as TouchWIZ. We’re hoping that someone can figure out how to port the ROM to the Galaxy Note or Galaxy Nexus, just to try out all those cool gestures before its release in North American. The device is launching a week from today, May 29th, in international markets, and we can expect an announcement soon for Canadian availability.

Remember, the international version is not LTE-capable and comes with a quad-core Exynos processor; the North American version is expected to use a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor for LTE compatibility.

If you’re into wallpapers, live or otherwise, the various media files inside the Galaxy S III have been made public. The above two images are examples of the “Deep Sea” and “Luminous Dots” live wallpapers, and there are five static scenes included, all derived from “nature” in some way.
