Quick update regarding one of the upcoming WIND Mobile devices. We let you know a few weeks ago that WIND will be releasing the Nokia Lumia 710, Samsung Gravity Touch 2 and the Huawei Astro. The Lumia 710 has officially been given the “coming soon” stamp and you can now “pre-register.” As for the Huawei Astro, you can bank on this hitting WIND stores this coming Thursday (April 26th) for a cool $150. The Astro also goes by the name of Prism on TMobile U8651 and is an entry-level Android that runs OS 2.3.5, has a 3.5 inch display (resolution of 320 x 480), 3.2 MP camera, overall dimensions being 116.3 x 60.5 x 11.9 mm and weighs 120 grams.

(Thanks tipster!)

As long as it’s not ARMv6 junk again…

    • Alex Perrier

      LG Optimus One-esque processor, anyone?

  • zayed

am waiting for nokia lumia 710

    • 0defaced

Mobi will have it cheaper i’m pretty sure….

  • aregularonhofo

Love seeing Wind Mobile beat the crap out of Mobilicity with new phones. Reasonable for a low-end phone.

    • aregularonhofo

To add to my previous post, as good as the phone is, it does not comapre to the Panache that I was never given, no matter how long I’ve begged for it. But it’s just as well. The cellphone use is not allowed at the facility where I am currently undergoing some serious mental evaluation and treatment.

      Night Cobra signing out!

    • 0defaced

christ……PLEASE for the love of Canada stop f**king whining for a free phone. You started a BS whining-blog up because you didn’t know what else to do, now you spam Mobilicity posts whenever you can…..

Don’t you have a day job kiddo?

  • Andy McDuggal

I never thought I’d say this about a Canadian cellphone company, but I actually smile when I pay my Wind bill.

    • roman129

      That’s because it’s not Canadian ;)

    • Sammy

It’s “Canadian” enough to operate in Canada ;)

  • Radar

Not a high end phone, but it will make many people happy for $150 with their great plans.

  • aregularonhofo

Here comes the losers from HoFo again who still insanely believe I’m LA, we also know who these i****s are by the irrational comments they make and unfortunately only here to ruin yet another site. Kind of hurts that Wind Mobile is growing and gaining new customers each day.

    • Voices in Your Head

LA, on behalf of Wind Community, please NEVER join Wind, or any Wind-related websited and message boards.

      We DO NOT want you!

      Signed,
      Every sane Wind subscriber.

  • Alex Perrier

Big round of applause for WIND! Catering to both the prepaid and postpaid demographics! :)

Regarding the phone: no Ice Cream Sandwich, but at $150, can’t complain. Specs (except the camera) remind me of the Samsung Galaxy Ace. Those who say that the Nokia Lumia 710 is a better buy, that depends. Almost two Astros can be purchased for the Lumia’s price.

Hopefully this means price reductions for the Alcatel One Touch and the Huawei “Boulder”!

For all i know, Mobilicity could be getting the Astro or Lumia. Stewart Lyons hinted that his company would sell Windows Phones, but he did not specify any details.

  • aregularonhofo

You’re the same guy fool, not only am I a Wind Mobile customer proud of it on their site, I’m also not LA…however you’re too dense to see this and possibly the one in need of heavy duty meds and therapy. Don’t worry, eventually everyone will be with Wind and it’ll be all good. Until then keep looking for a signal.

  • aregularonhofo

Alex, who in their right mind would go with the other new entrants, Wind Mobile has a better network, faster data and more extensive coverage area. You can already pick up signals outside of Kingston and the network is even being built faster. Regardless what Tony said, Wind will be at the Auction and the only new provider to survive. I mean even these cheaper Androids can be used on the Wind and a good choice as not everyone wants a high end phone or needs one.

    • Alex Perrier

Mobilicity diehards are Mobilicity diehards. Some of them flocked on the $20/month unlimited talk/text/BIS plan during Q4 2011. Some of them don’t like WIND. Some of them bought multi-month. i agree that WIND has the best strategy nowadays. i have left Mobilicity because their actions suggest that they’re not serious about being a company.

  • JuJube

Can’t wait for the Lumia 710 to be released

  • omega

competition is good… Why do all the people here commenting in wind posts want Mobi to fail?

    • Alex Perrier

At first i wanted Mobilicity to succeed and to be strategic, such as perhaps expand in the Prairies or the Maritimes while WIND builds in British Columbia and Ontario. But no, same old five zones, and minor improvements to the plans. A little more encouraging than Public Mobile, but not by a whole lot. Cute Alexis and Otis aliens, sure.

Now that they won’t expand, i want them to be either a) dirt cheap prepaid carrier for those five cities or b) bought by WIND outright.

  • Swstriker

Because Mobilicity is doodoo! They have not made any significant changes from launch. Smaller network area, less stores, no subsidies, etc. I rather pay for Wind service that I can use in common places I visit i.e. Niagara Falls.

  • Jebus

I thought the two companies were going to merge? I read somewhere they are both not making a profit and to continue offering their low rates something drastic needs to be done like a buyout or take over….?

  • Brian

Anybody know the processor and ram? thanks :)

  • Mobilicity go away

Mobilicity should declare bankruptcy within this year. Just stop feeding it. It’ll be over soon.
    The sooner the better.

  • omega

I don’t think judging a business by how many corporate stores they have really works. There are lots of companies that succeed with a few corporate stores. Its a legitimate business strategy.

Right now wind as 5 zones the same as Mobi. They have announced plans to expand but those are just plans. They also announced they would not buy LTE spectrum.

Mobi has also added new towers. Does anyone know their plans for expansion? I don’t think so. So its really all speculation.

So what is the big difference? Are people rushing to buy $150 phones? Or are the few hardcore phones fans paying attention to the specs of $150 phones. Mobi is already post paid.

I hope both companies succeed and both can chose to compete in different ways that create value for consumers. You might not agree with it but at least it gives consumers more choice.

Are you all getting wind tattoos?

    • Radar

Wind mobile has 8 zones: Ottawa, GTA (way bigger than Mobi), Waterloo region, London, Niagara region, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver – Abbotsford-Whistler.

    • Gene

They actually have 11. Depending on what happens in the spectrum auction they have a good chance of being national by 2014

  • aregularonhofo

Right, having one corporate store in each city to save money is a great idea while customers suffer, why not save even more money by also having only one store in each city and one Rep (possibly Otis). No logic and no business stragedy.

Furthermore, do you really want to be served by Mobilicity dealers where none conform to the same principles and some even simply do as they wish…I think not. Wind Mobile’s coverage is also far superior and growing daily. No speculation there…it’s obvious. Kitchener, Cambridge, Barrie, etc, etc, etc.

There’s a difference between hanging on with cheap promos and growing like Wind is doing. Join Wind now or get a “JUAN” tatoo later.

  • Alex Perrier

Peeps, take it easy. There’s a lot of comments regarding “Provider A is better than Provider B.” For now, let the providers battle it out themselves, and later we’ll see who win and who loses.

Smart customers who are in the market for a new phone and/or a new plan will compare the advantages and disadvantages or each carrier before signing up. Even details like how the service is paid make a difference:
    • Where and how is an account topped up?
    • Is the customer charged a silly “Teller Fee”, or are such bogus fees excluded from the carrier’s honest pricing?
    • Does the provider only offer monthly plans with a monthly cost, or is there a “Pay Your Way” option for those who don’t need unlimited talk and or unlimited text on the line?

  • bobo jones

I tested the custumer service at all the budget phone companys and Mobi. was the worst.

  • Toshiro

More garbage from wind! What are we to expect? they limit the unlimited and now I am told they are starting to kill off the cheap plans. Oh well it was fun while it lasted and now we have alex the new wind wanna be.. Mobli is going to bid on the LTE auction. Wind no. Unless tony and his owners are liars. Are they Alex? hmmm men of their word? LA is a god. Warren and the no gag reflex club lol! Also whats this about warren giving details on how to hack winds site? Warren shame shame..

But the new phone is crap. Also I hear dummybuy just got the letters from Nokia, Sony, LG, Samsung and Motorola. No warranty.. thats not good!

    • 0defaced

Dummybuy is (was) a shi*-a**ed dealer who only backs what is making him money. He’s a waste, and should be shut down for bad practice.

  • EvanK

I’d personally like to see more WP7 devices hit Wind’s shelves. Problem is, how many WP7 handsets support AWS bands?

    • Ron Mexico

Even more of a problem? How many windows phone handsets exist as a whole? 10?

  • Toshiro

AWS is a dead frequency as far as T-Mobile said. LTE is the focus and looks like its a done deal. CNN had a report where they said it was a good ride but the lack of signal and Iphone took its toll. Tony is not a happy camper. He is moving on?

  • aregularonhofo

Odefaced, everyone who has been on HoFo for more than 5 years like I have knows you’re a lying Mobilicity shill, all you do/did on this site is lick their a*s and acted as a decoy to stop any legit complaints…at least DummyBuy helps his customers and isn’t a hypocrite like you.

You also supported a CEO who also lied on this same site and was eventually fired. Don’t place Tony in the same category, Wind Mobile is growing/expanding and if anyone this is the only provider as I said before who will get any useful Spectrum…joke all you want people but it’s either going with Wind to make them strong or going back to the Incumbents who will be smiling like Mr.Scrooge to have you back.

    • aregularonhofo

It was also unfair for Dave not to give me that Panache. He made me a promise, after I said that I wanted it, and then he never sent it to me. I was so upset, that I could not sleep for 4 days, which caused permanent impotency in my member.

  • aregularonhofo

I know the truth hurts pal, however the simple fact is LA was actually a standup guy and your idol wasn’t. In fact, LA refused all offers made to him by Mobilicity after his third bad phone because Dave wasn’t being fair to all his customers on/off line and made people aware of this…as a result in revenge Dave cancelled LA’s $35 Family and Friends plan, which by the way was given to LA in a settlement for previous problems and went on-line claiming LA wanted a free Panche which was an absolute lie in a feeble attempt to cover-up his BS. To make things worse Dave later went on Twitter to make fun of LA and of course the fanboys followed like dumb little monkeys wanting LA banned. Dave posted only twice and never came back to prove his lies. So, drop the bad jokes and at least get the story straight…still I don’t expect much more from losers. Impotency…I think all the fanboys have this. You must feel really special being part of such a select group of people and so proud.

    • aregularonhofo

My apologies for talking in 3rd person. LA, I mean – me, I mean – LA, is a very cool guy, a great lover, and a hero of the nation! LA, I mean – me, I mean – LA, is closer to God than any other human being ever was!

Anyway, it is time for Ivan to give me my hourly spongebath! These mental institutions are so much more advanced these days. Makes me wish I ended up here sooner!

      Night Cobra signing out!

  • aregularonhofo

You’re one sick puppy buddy, I keep telling you I’m not LA and the only thing I believe is that you really are getting a spongebath from a guy named Ivan. Good luck with that and good luck also with your therapy.

  • Rogido

Should be priced at $129 max.

  • David

From the specification, this is all frequency phone, once unlocked, it can be working on all UMTS/AWS companies.
