Samsung shows off Premium Suite of S Pen apps for Galaxy Note ICS update (Video)

We told you yesterday that Samsung was going to wait a bit longer to bring Galaxy Note users that coveted Android 4.0 update. Specifically, they were going to delay the release from Q1 to Q2 and develop a larger number of S Pen-related apps.

Whether there were other reasons involved, such as performance-related issues, we’ll likely never know, but a delay is a delay and that is likely going to make a few people unhappy. Nevertheless, as a way to tease the upcoming ICS release with its Premium Suite of S Pen apps, Samsung has released a teaser video showing off the things you’ll be able to do with apps like Shape Match and Formula Match, both things I would find extraordinarily cool if I was still a student.

In fact, most of the upgrades seem to be geared towards the young professional, the note-taker, the student, the teacher, the something. There is very little in this ICS update that is aimed squarely at improving the core Android experience; TouchWIZ seems fully intact. But we won’t judge it until we see it in action.

Check after the break for a lively demonstration video.

Samsung…. “watch this hand, while we delay with the other”.

  • JUST SAYING

    NICE FEATURE IT WORTH WAITING

I LOVE THE NOTE, hope Samsung will release another one same size 5.3″ like Galaxy Note 2 or (THE NEW GALAXY NOTE) then Apple will sue them, coz I cant look at the smaller smart-phones any more!!

this is all well and good, but I don’t consider this a valid reason for the delay. I own the Galaxy S II LTE (aka the skyrocket, in the states) and it got pushed to Q2 with the Note, even thought these new “premium” apps do not apply to the GS2 LTE. Unfortunately, there aren’t any leaked sources or anything for the GS2 LTE, so, despite being rooted, nobody is even raelly making much progress in developing an ICS custom ROM.

At the end of the day, I’m not *that* upset about the delay, but I am kind of unimpressed with their justification for the delay.

I love my note, even after smashing the secreen I’m always busy fiddling with roms and other tweaks

“We’re delaying a major feature to work on minor content that could be trvially relased after the major feature”. Some people will fall for anything.

I questioned the Note at first, but the more I see of it, the more I’m actually considering one for my next phone. People can mock the ‘stylus’ all they want – you can do things with it you can’t with your finger. And you don’t NEED to use it unless you want to. I believe Android to be about choices, and hardware choices like this are part of that package. Keep it up Samsung!
