The popular free iOS game Temple Run is coming to Android on March 27th after a long delay that was supposed to have its debut in early February.

The run-jump-dodge platformer debuted on iPhone in August 2011 and has been downloaded 40 million times since then, becoming one of the top grossing apps in the App Store with its value-add in-app purchases model. We’re assuming the same will be true of the Android version, which has since the beginning emphasized a free-to-play or ad-based gaming model over paid versions.

“We are excited to finally share the Android release date with our fans who have been so enthusiastic and supportive of Temple Run,” said Keith Shepherd, co-founder of Imangi Studios. “By expanding to more mobile devices, we hope to provide the same addictive and fast-paced gameplay to an entirely new group of players.”

No doubt Temple Run for Android will find similar success, but we just hope Imangi Studios figures out how to restore previously-purchased in-game items between devices.

Yay, I look forward to installing this on my Nexus. However, just like most mobile games, the novelty wears off fast. I got fairly bored of it after 20 minutes on my brother’s iPhone.

This game is so cool and addictive. I played on my cousin’s iPhone and loved it but disappointed because it was not available in Andriod Market but now it will…So excited…

Agreed with Mil pool. Should run flawlessly. I find that a lot of mobile games fizzle relatively quick.

This game is very good as far as a phone app. The only concern is the quality of it vs the iPhone. For example, the swipe could be too sensitive or vice versa, lacking sensitivity. Most people have been waiting and it is worth it. Please make sure its Temple Run not iRunner, etc. Looking forward, although it is pretty old by now.

hope this gets to the bb app world too

Looking forward to this game! Wish it could’ve came out earlier but it’s fine, at least it’s coming out. Haven’t got bored of it yet ever since I played on my friend’s iPod. It’s so addictive trying to beat the high score after high score! Temple Run will be even more popular now.
