The day has arrived. Today, February 14th, 2011, the Samsung Galaxy Note has officially launched. This 5.3-inch phone/tablet is now available to all Canadians from Bell, TELUS and Rogers. This will come with Android OS 2.3.6 Gingerbread with TouchWIZ, but is on an upgrade path to OS 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich sometime before May. Other specs of this beast has it powered by a 1.5Ghz dual-core processor, the display has a resolution of 1280 x 800 and is made of Gorilla Glass. The Note weighs in at 178 grams and is yet another LTE-enabled device, but will fall back to the carriers HSPA+ network speeds. As for pricing, the no-term ranges from $699 – $779; while the price drops to $199.99 on a 3-year at all carriers.
More here from Bell, TELUS and Rogers
BestBuy has it now listed @ $149 for Bell, yet Bell.ca has it still @ $199
Can BestBuy really be offering it for $50 less than Bell directly?

Looks too weird holding a phone that big to your ear but then again who calls anymore, most people including myself use social networking or texting\IMing to communicate nowadays.

Why would he release it if it comes out today? What makes you so special that you think you deserve it a day early?

I like the size, even bigger than my Galaxy Nexus. Very easy on the eyes. Too bad it won’t work with Mobilicity or Wind.

ROGERS made sure it will not work on winds better megga hurts!!! why are you all supporting them?! We at the no gag reflex club want answers! Tony said AWS is far better than LTE and you will all know it soon! Wind is committed to keep AWS until YOU ALL see how great it is! best service best plans best all round everything!!! LTE is not as good as AWS!

Did they deliberately release it today so they can get a lot of “Is that your Note or are you happy to see me” jokes?

I’m on my way to the store now for a gut check.
I know The source will give me a free Bluetooth headset with a hardware upgrade.
Bell states on their website that a free accesory is included.
Best Buy now has it listed for $150.
Does anyone else know any other deals?
(I’ll likely already have this in hand when I come back to check this thread however.)

It’s already available at Rogers, so not sure why Bestbuy removed it.

it should work on wind/mobilicity,
the specifications on bell website shows
LTE: 700/1700 MHz HSPA/UMTS: 850/1700/ 1900/2100 MHz

Will not work with Wind… It has 700/1700 LTE… first Wind is not LTE second.. Wind is 1700 AWS… You’re way off!

I apologize.. I didn’t read your post properly.. Yes based on the specs from the Bell website technically this can work with Wind….

Yeah I don’t know why Bell would put that as it’s blatantly wrong. You need the 1700/2100mhz spectrum for WIND which Bell shows it has.
But if you look at the Telus site, it clearly shows a tri-band HSPA network. It would need to be penta band like the nexus to work on WIND.
I tried to look at Samsung’s site but they show nothing.
Honestly, there’s no way it has a 1700Mhz band. Otherwise T-Mobile would have been all over this in the US instead of AT&T

It uses 700/1700 for LTE only. It even says so. Under HSPA (which is what Wind has) it only has tri-band

Telus have the Galaxy Note listed as $199 on their site. It just went live. So much for the $149 hopes I had.

Does not seem to be up on rogers website but bell lists 512 ram under the spec page!
This is totally a deal breaker for me. Already have a dell streak. Next phone needs 720p, big screen, fast cpu, 1gb ram and lte. Guess I am waiting to see if the HTC endeavor comes to Canada.

Can someone who picked one up today confirm the amount of ram? if its 512 then I’ll be ordering the international version from expansys. Not sure why they would cut the ram down on such a high end device

This is really not a good deal… 200$ and a 3 year term. So much money to get robbed blind for 3 years…
Just get the international version for around 650$ (saw it for 600$ some places). Its a better phone with a better SoC and better battery life. You can even get it in white now.

Wonder why Samsung is releasing any new phones without ICS? Makes no sense!

This is because the original Galaxy Note was announced before ICS.
If any Notes were to have ICS first, it would the international versions.

Dumb people need to stop commenting , it has 1GB of ram not 512 , Os version is CARRIER BASED , it will eventually have ICS once the code is translated by the Carrier (fluffware added to it as well). This phone will be awesome , if you think the screen is too big then why even bother posting on this…

WHEN I CHECK THE RAM STATUD IN THE PHONE IT HAS 732MB USABLE, THAT WOULD MEAN IT HAS 1GB RAM.
Don’t see FM raido listed in the apps.

The experience of making calls, on the other hand, is merely good. Whether awkwardly holding up the Note to your ear, or connecting through a headset, Bluetooth or otherwise, callers sounded far away to me, and me to them. However, the quality itself is high, with no distracting sibilance, echoes or delays. The Note comes equipped with a second microphone for noise cancellation, though because many of my callers sounded so distant I can’t vouch for its usefulness.
Anybody else experiencing call quality issues?
Thanks

I just got one 2 weeks ago. This is an awesome quick responsive phone. Great Video and light thin. I was wondering how dorky I would look holding such a large phone. But the look is more envy than distain if you care about that sort of think. But no matter what it looks like I dont care because it is turely a cool fuctional phone.
