The day has arrived. Today, February 14th, 2011, the Samsung Galaxy Note has officially launched. This 5.3-inch phone/tablet is now available to all Canadians from Bell, TELUS and Rogers. This will come with Android OS 2.3.6 Gingerbread with TouchWIZ, but is on an upgrade path to OS 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich sometime before May. Other specs of this beast has it powered by a 1.5Ghz dual-core processor, the display has a resolution of 1280 x 800 and is made of Gorilla Glass. The Note weighs in at 178 grams and is yet another LTE-enabled device, but will fall back to the carriers HSPA+ network speeds. As for pricing, the no-term ranges from $699 – $779; while the price drops to $199.99 on a 3-year at all carriers.

More here from Bell, TELUS and Rogers

  • Kid.Canada

Looks too weird holding a phone that big to your ear but then again who calls anymore, most people including myself use social networking or texting\IMing to communicate nowadays.

    • SAM

WOW WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF PHONE!!! IT GOT IT RIGHT!
      LOSE AGAIN GARBAGE IPHONE!!!
      GOOD JOB SAMMIE!!!!

  • Jay Jay

    I think I’m in love <3

  • Dalex

Can I trade the LTE for the exynos chipset?

  • sp

there is always bluetooth headsets as well.

if you want to go that route of course, but im with you on that one. its all about text, whatsapp and the like. rarely make a call now a days

  • sam

Yesterday at Rogers store the guy had a bad day he did not released my note, first he told me I can come and pick it up when I went there he said not before the 14th I cancelled my order with rogers at the same time I was no 17 on Rogers reservation list!

    • Brendan

Why would he release it if it comes out today? What makes you so special that you think you deserve it a day early?

    • SAM

HEY, GUESS WHAT I CALLED 10 ROGERS STORES ALREADY THIS MORNING AND NO ONE HAVE THEM!!! BUT I WILL GET MINE TODAY BECAUSE I RESERVED IT THRU ROGERS RESERVATION SYSTEM.

  • Tony

Too big for me honestly… I’ll go check it out in stores though.

  • Cell Hell

I like the size, even bigger than my Galaxy Nexus. Very easy on the eyes. Too bad it won’t work with Mobilicity or Wind.

    • T1MB1T

ROGERS made sure it will not work on winds better megga hurts!!! why are you all supporting them?! We at the no gag reflex club want answers! Tony said AWS is far better than LTE and you will all know it soon! Wind is committed to keep AWS until YOU ALL see how great it is! best service best plans best all round everything!!! LTE is not as good as AWS!

  • ToniCipriani

Did they deliberately release it today so they can get a lot of “Is that your Note or are you happy to see me” jokes?

  • jesso2k

I’m on my way to the store now for a gut check.

I know The source will give me a free Bluetooth headset with a hardware upgrade.
Bell states on their website that a free accesory is included.
Best Buy now has it listed for $150.

Does anyone else know any other deals?

(I’ll likely already have this in hand when I come back to check this thread however.)

  • Amelie

How come Best Buy removed Rogers on there Galaxy Note page…also Rogers preps told me yesterday that Rogers was not ready to released the Galaxy Note on the 14th…weird ?

    • Eluder

It’s already available at Rogers, so not sure why Bestbuy removed it.

  • Mystic09

The guy at the Telus store told me it was going to be 159$
Telus still hasn’t released the price on their website. I’m stuck at work until 5..

  • Jimmy

“Happy Valentine’s Day! I got a 5.3 incher for you!”

    “That’s it?!”

  • Wind-Lover

    it should work on wind/mobilicity,
the specifications on bell website shows
    LTE: 700/1700 MHz HSPA/UMTS: 850/1700/ 1900/2100 MHz

    • Lighter

Will not work with Wind… It has 700/1700 LTE… first Wind is not LTE second.. Wind is 1700 AWS… You’re way off!

    • Lighter

I apologize.. I didn’t read your post properly.. Yes based on the specs from the Bell website technically this can work with Wind….

    • Deutschlaender

Yeah I don’t know why Bell would put that as it’s blatantly wrong. You need the 1700/2100mhz spectrum for WIND which Bell shows it has.

But if you look at the Telus site, it clearly shows a tri-band HSPA network. It would need to be penta band like the nexus to work on WIND.

I tried to look at Samsung’s site but they show nothing.

Honestly, there’s no way it has a 1700Mhz band. Otherwise T-Mobile would have been all over this in the US instead of AT&T

    • crimsona

It uses 700/1700 for LTE only. It even says so. Under HSPA (which is what Wind has) it only has tri-band

  • funkmaster

Telus have the Galaxy Note listed as $199 on their site. It just went live. So much for the $149 hopes I had.

  • zzZZzz

Is that a big phone in your pocket, or you’re just happy to see me?

  • Rich

Would have been brilliant to sell this with a free bluetooth.

    • Rich

p.s. It’s $82 on the Telus Team Webstore (Employee friends and family) on a 3 year contract.

  • Stephen

I just called Samsung, it turns out the Canadian version only has 512Mb of RAM. :(

    • bjtheone

Does not seem to be up on rogers website but bell lists 512 ram under the spec page!

This is totally a deal breaker for me. Already have a dell streak. Next phone needs 720p, big screen, fast cpu, 1gb ram and lte. Guess I am waiting to see if the HTC endeavor comes to Canada.

    • Amelie

Hi Stephen, I call them as well, and they were not able to confirm it to me…? Are you sure about this > Is the guy on the phone seems competent to you ?

    • Sam

Of course, everyone knows canadians will take all kinds of bulls**t and learn to like it. Just say NO and move on.

  • bill

Soon you will forget how to communicate via speech. I use like 600o min per month

  • Amelie

    512 of RAM WTF ?

  • pho

Happy Valentine’s Day!…”Is that a Note in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?”

  • SAM

ON ROGERS WEB THERE IS NO SMARTPHONE CALLED GALAXY NOTE!!!!!!!!!

  • Terry

I buy it from Bell 199.99$ 3 year contract + free case it’s soooooo nice.

    • Amelie

      Hi Terry,

is there FM Radio in it? Also can you confirm the RAM to everybody please ?

  • Mystic09

Can someone who picked one up today confirm the amount of ram? if its 512 then I’ll be ordering the international version from expansys. Not sure why they would cut the ram down on such a high end device :(

    • SAM

RAM IS 1 GB NOT 512

  • Dalex

This is really not a good deal… 200$ and a 3 year term. So much money to get robbed blind for 3 years…

Just get the international version for around 650$ (saw it for 600$ some places). Its a better phone with a better SoC and better battery life. You can even get it in white now.

    • ab

Depends on your deal. I will be getting one for $199 on a 1 year contract.

  • Amelie

Same here, can someone confirm the RAM, even samsung cannot confirm it since the preps are too dumb to know what is RAM…also does it have FM Radio…? Please confirm.

  • tbone

Is that a Galaxy Note in your pocket or you just happy to see me.

  • kat

This phone has gone beyond a comfortable size. To me its a failed hybrid.

  • briggs

“This will come with Android OS 2.3.6 Gingerbread with TouchWIZ…”
    stopped caring at TouchWIZ

  • jesso2k

    Just came home with one!

I got it for $150 at The Source on a 3 year hardware upgrade. I got a 16gb Sandisk card from them for $20 and a white flip cover from Bell for $30. It looks fresh to death.

    • Amelie

hi Jesso2k, Can you confirm about the RAM and the FM Radio please?

  • Me Ted

    Touchwiz. Ewwwww.

  • shaggyskunk

Wonder why Samsung is releasing any new phones without ICS? Makes no sense!

    • KK

This is because the original Galaxy Note was announced before ICS.

If any Notes were to have ICS first, it would the international versions.

  • Avi

Dumb people need to stop commenting , it has 1GB of ram not 512 , Os version is CARRIER BASED , it will eventually have ICS once the code is translated by the Carrier (fluffware added to it as well). This phone will be awesome , if you think the screen is too big then why even bother posting on this…

    • Amelie

how can you be sure ?

    • Avi

I guess you’ll have to wait and find out if you honestly believe I come on here to spread false rumors.

    • bjtheone

Specs on bells web site claim 512.

  • Mikey

Picked mine up yesterday from Rogers for $199 on a HUP. It cannot be understated how amazing this thing looks. If you don’t like it, cool, keep it moving.

  • Amelie

Samsungmobile canada confirms it on twitter = 1g final !

  • Mike

Why doesn’t rogers have any in stock yet?? I’ve called 4 Rogers stores and nobody got their shipments!!

  • dylan

WHEN I CHECK THE RAM STATUD IN THE PHONE IT HAS 732MB USABLE, THAT WOULD MEAN IT HAS 1GB RAM.

Don’t see FM raido listed in the apps.

This is a hella sexy phablet, I’m selling my Galaxy Tab 10.1 lol!!

  • mike

It has much more ram than 512MB, confirmed on my Note I picked up this morning from Telus.

  • david

Note is a good phone but 512MB RAM and that price is a deal breaker. My SII Skyrocket has 1GB RAM and is fraction of this cost.

  • Jesso2k

Hey Amelie, I can confirm what Dylan (3 posts up) said is true.

  • Zoinks

I’m still waiting on the Tab 7.7″. Wasn’t it also supposed to be “coming soon”?

  • HarryD

Surprise surprise, Best Buy branches in Vancouver to Abbotsford only got 1 unit each from Bell; I’m lookig for 2 without running around branch to branch.

Richmond Centre got only 1 from Rogers too.

Anyone else having trouble with supply?

  • Brandon

Shut up Sam. Just shut up.

  • kat

for an extra 1.7 inches get a BB Playbook cheaper by the inch

  • SAM

THE RAM IS 1GB SURE 100% ITS 1 GB RAM, THIS IS NOT APPLE PHONE ITS SAMSUNG ITS 1 GB RAM SURE 1000000%%%%%%%

JUST GO AND GRAB ONE THE PHONE IS AMAZING THE SCREEN IS AMAZING

  • HarryD

The experience of making calls, on the other hand, is merely good. Whether awkwardly holding up the Note to your ear, or connecting through a headset, Bluetooth or otherwise, callers sounded far away to me, and me to them. However, the quality itself is high, with no distracting sibilance, echoes or delays. The Note comes equipped with a second microphone for noise cancellation, though because many of my callers sounded so distant I can’t vouch for its usefulness.

Anybody else experiencing call quality issues?

    Thanks

  • John

How do you change the time on the Samsung note its set for UK time i need it for ontario canada

How do you change the time on the Samsung note

  • paul

I just got one 2 weeks ago. This is an awesome quick responsive phone. Great Video and light thin. I was wondering how dorky I would look holding such a large phone. But the look is more envy than distain if you care about that sort of think. But no matter what it looks like I dont care because it is turely a cool fuctional phone.
