This concept design dreams of the plug built into back to the phone

Here’s a great concept design that will probably never see the light of day. Battery life is a constant issue for both consumers and manufacturers. Devices are now being released with more powerful features, bigger displays, dual-cores processors, and overall thinner. The design of the phone is a well orchestrated process – in the box comes a bunch of cables and plugs. This concept design by Francois Rybarczyk is called the “Autonome” and it takes the simple notion of adding the plug into the phone. Sure, not the most aesthetically pleasing as it adds a massive bump on the back and weight, but a great idea. Earlier this year Samsung announced that they plan on releasing more devices that will have an all-day battery life. Check out all the concepts below

  1. Looks great as long as it doesn’t add too much bulk. It would really come in handy.

  2. I was going to say its retarded until I saw it was removable. I could see myself using it when travelling. Although having it on a cord can be nice since you don’t look like a r****d when you’re on your phone face to the wall.

  3. Most idiotic idea yet. Why would you not just carry a cable and plug it in so you can… you know… actually use the phone still. Plug this in and it looks like a night light.

    • Hey smart guy, look at the concept again.
it has the fast charge battery that can be removed, or if the phone rings while plugged in…. how about you unplug it?

It definitely needs polish, but it is a CONCEPT. Without ideas like this, we’re going to be stuck with garbage battery life as battery technology isn’t going to change anytime soon.

    • Concept does not mean advertisement you douche!

I think it could be great for those of us that occasionally forget their charger.

  5. This would make it so thick. Why dont they design a phone where the plug slides out from the side? Would be much thinner.

  6. I would never buy a phone with this feature. There is no way they can make the phone thin with this feature. A better idea would have been to use a USB socket since you can pretty much find a computer anywhere.

  7. HTC in this attempt is showing they understand battery life is an issue and this unconventional way is a good idea.
Just think, you have the option to either do without the extra battery life and charging option and bring a cord, or use the extra battery and get 2 days out of a single charge(?) (remember the phone also has a primary battery inside so this add-on wouldn’t be necessary).

  8. I can see somewhere in the future when this happens, a lawsuit will follow by Apple as always and will claim they had the technology first. Ugh

  9. Oh right… Concept. So rather than work on getting better battery life we work on plugging the phone into the wall! That fixes the problem, right? Get rid of the cord and plug your entire phone into the wall! Grrreat concept!
How about they start selling an extra battery WITH the phone. Preferrably one with extra capacity so the end user could decide which phone to take with them that day. Also, they could include a desktop charger so one battery could charge there while the other was plugged into a wall.
This instead of making the consumer shop for all these extras while trying to get through a single days use with these ‘high end’ phones.
…wow, and they didn’t need to pay me $60,000+

    • “How about they start selling an extra battery WITH the phone”

That’s what this is, except that extra battery ALSO has a built in charger for itself, and can be used as a charging pack for the main battery.

Of course, if you actually understood the article, you’d already know that.

  10. Ignoring how stupid the entire concept is, this is a complete non-starter for anyone who travels. Currently, you can buy a cheap USB power adapter for any region, that’ll work with any phone. With this design? When you buy your phone you’ll have a battery/plug module for your native electrical system. You can get an adapter to physically fit the plug into another region’s electrical socket, but the battery module would still have to be able to deal with the electrical properties of the other system. The components to enable this would add bulk and/or reduce the battery capacity. The other solution would be to buy a battery module for that region, which will cost many times more than a simple adapter, and will be useless when you go back home. The current system (internal battery, USB + wall wart) is a lot more practical than this ridiculous design.

Oh, I just thought of another thing. Ever seen a UK plug? How would you like to have one of those sticking out the back of your phone?

  12. hopefully they would think about surge protection built-in…. just in case of a surge that could damage the phone itself…especially in hotels/motels when you travel?!?

  14. I love this idea. Being able to charge on the fly without carrying around a charger would be helpful. I would rather have a phone a little bit thicker than a thin dead one.

You think you’re all that important you can’t go half an hour without using your phone? Lol come back to reality, some of you have issues. No offense.

Example… You’re out… Phone is dying… Not going all the way home to grab your charger (carrying around a charger is stupid, where do you keep it? Other pocket? Lol) you simply flip the back and plug it in. Charge a bit and carry on with your life.

Seriously… Some of you have zero imagination.

  16. Also I think this would be a great auxiliary battery pack add on. Doesn’t have to have a plug. Twice the battery in a phone form filling case addition would be great! When your in phone battery dies this one kicks in.

    Tons of potential.

  18. I for one would not buy this kind o phone, sorry it looks kinda dumb. I like a phone I can plug in and put the phone on my night stand and still be able to use the phone and not be stuck onto a wall plug. sorry this is a dumb idea,,lol

  20. I wonder if anyone read the article before commenting. Probably not even the pictures.

This is actually a great idea. For all of you complaining on how thick it is, its removable. For all of you complaining about how you can’t use the phone while its charging, HTC wants to create a fast charge system. In the picture it says it will fully charge in 30 seconds.

This essentially gets rid of the need for cords and such. If your phone runs out at work and you have no cord, you just plug it in the wall. Yeesh people.

  21. It really restricts the use of the phone while plugged it. I don’t wanna have my buddies over while I am talking to somebody and they all hear it and no I don’t wanna roll with my BT headset in my place either. Bad idea.

  22. Yeah good idea , with the cord inside phone, can be extendable when needed, (to use phone while charging)
like a extension plugs, which rolls in cord inside of it.

  24. This would be a great idea if the battery was able to charge within a couple of minutes.

I think HTC should patent it whether or not it’s stupid because you know that fruit company is going to steal the idea and promote it as revolutionary and innovative. Then sue the pants off everyone else.

  25. some people just call everything terrible. It is something new to improve battery life on the go and wasn’t this the whole reason people crying about? Now when they are trying, atleast don’t call it terrible, rather encourage for atleast trying to fix the issue. Gosh..some ppl…
