According to Best Buy Bell has the lowest 3-year contract price for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note at $199.99. TELUS is priced at $249.99 and Rogers hits a high with $299.99. One of the major questions surrounding this new category of phone/tablet is what the no-contract price will be. Well, special thanks goes out to Bell’s retail chain The Source for giving us the goods. Finding it online through their main site only brings up the 3-year price, but a quick search via their mobile site reveals an outright cost of $729.95.
The Note is launching February 14th with Android OS 2.3 Gingerbread, but will be upgraded to OS 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich within a few months.

(Thanks tipster!)
$729.95 outright… Only a matter of time until we see outright prices of $1000 or more!

It actually wasn’t long ago that phones like the BlackBerry Storm and Palm Treo were $999, $1099 or more.

And that’s why price of these devices need to be monitored and regulated. They are crooks by making it hard to buy outright and harder to cancel if you go on contract.
Think about other items in your household and if that material is worth $700+ of your hard earned money.

Ouch! Something about that $700 barrier makes it hard to buy. I hope that it’s unlocked for that price.

Oh that’s hilarious. If I was tempted to to pick up this phone, that price alone would be enough to turn me off. Phone prices are ridiculous enough at the $600 range, but $700+? Especially considering that within a year it will drop at least 25-50% of the value? No thank you.

Buying a phone is not an investment. BTW, since when putting waccom digitizer on a phone reduced the cost? It has more functionality with more expensive parts thus the higher price. What are you bitching about?

Actually, you’ll find battery life is quite good… well, with the GSM version it was. I got one back in Dec when it launched in the UK, and it’d easily last me through a full day. Now, I’m an average user. Low phone call use. Mainly used for txting, web, games, video’s. I usually averaged about 34hrs of from 100% to dead. +- an hour..
And the price is a little high, but not much. I got mine for about $740 Can after import duties.

it also has larger battery and with the lastest update it is reported that Note has the best battery life among smart phones, maybe except Razr Maxx

You know, all the high end phones used to reach the $1000 mark when sold unlocked and online. This was more common before iOS & Android though.
Over the past few years it seemed like that trend was changing, non-subsidized prices coming down, and it could have caused real change and benefit consumers. The first two Nexus phones were both $500ish unlocked and the Nexus S even came a bit cheaper. The Galaxy Nexus was disappointing in my opinion to see it jump to 650 when its predecessors were quite cheaper.
It’s obvious though, its all to cater to the carriers, and they all do it, including Apple (who are the worst, and its obvious based on their profit margins and insane marketshare based on smartphone profits).
Come on, a 32GB iPod touch sells around $300 direct to the consumer, but a 32GB iPhone is $750. 2.5 times the price. Sure there’s better cameras and some extra components, which are probably worth $50 more. But its the usual non-subsidized price inflation so the carriers can advertise “low” and lock us in.
Aren’t all these android tablets coming out with amazing features and lower prices, and this Note which is a large phone or small tablet is $730? Pathetic.

Coming from a 4s, battery will be comparable I thing,,,,cr4p! That said, I’m leaning towards buying it outright, just as long as I sell my 64gb 4s for a decent price. I just hope Bell doesn’t r4pe me for moving my current 6gb data plan to LTE. Any one know?

Bell does not have like LTE plan (only rogers i think)
I asked them about it as well
They said that 3G/4G/LTE are all the same and all are included in your data plan.

Looks like the small segment that was gonna buy the Note, just got smaller.
In comparison, the Bell Samsung Galaxy 8.9 LTE is $649. Not to mention all those 10″ tablets with 3G capability (and upcoming LTE/4G) that cost $499.

This phone isn’t “new on the market”. It’s only new in this country. It’s been available in the US since October, and the price has not come down significantly since it’s release. It was released at $700, and looking at online stores in the US, the price is anywhere from $650 to $800.
So if you think this handset will suddenly fall by half in 3 months, I wouldn’t bet on it.

Amazing how most of you feel the price is super high. In truth I’d place it at 700. That’s because it’s a Galaxy S2 with a bigger screen. And no it’s not just a tablet, it’s not just a phone, it’s a hybrid. I wanna see you put a galaxy tab in your pocket. (Sure the Note is kinda large, but still fits).
Now I personally don’t need a tablet, nor a phone that big. But there are plenty I know who do. The price is justifiable IF compared to what’s on the market.

I paid less for the Galaxy Note (imported) than I would have for an iPhone 4S – which has a much smaller screen, non-replaceable battery, and no option to expand via SD card. For it’s utility and value (coming from someone who has actually used it every day for the last two months) it’s a much better deal than the iPhone.

ohhhhhhhhh that’s a horrible price! And most likely it won’t be unlocked!
PLUS TAXES TOO!
do yourself a favour – order it from amazon.com. it’s selling for under $700 including tax and shipping. And that’s a better model of the phone and unlocked!
whomever things that the phone price will come down off contract in a few months is kidding themselves. In the country where buying unlocked/unsubsidized phones are not common, only the contract price will fall – not the outright price.
when it sold here in germany – the selling price was 600 euros (it released i think in the beginning of November). Some stores had lots of promos selling it for 450 euros (but one day sales only). By christmas – the price fell to under 500 euros. I managed to pick it up in January for 400 euros. But that’st the culture in Germany – hot items can get price cuts quickly, there’s a lot of competition from online stores. But not so much in canada
if you want the phone and don’t care about LTE – just get the original note from amazon. there may be other sources I don’t know about, but it’s the only one i can suggest that has the best price!

I purchased and have received this battery (4500mAH) for the N7000. I’m pretty sure it will fit fine in the version of the note we are getting in Canada (I717) as this one is a bit thicker battery (80% increase in power), you get a new deeper back cover with a cool KICKSTAND on it. It’s $110 so may be prohibitive for some but thought I would post it anyway.I’ve been waiting for the phone to arrive here.

Does anyone know the pricing/difference if the phone is purchased – unlocked on monthly plans? I paid over $1000 for a Sony Clie PIM 10 years ago and still use it. I for one would purchase this phone for ~ $700 but need to see how that affects the monthly plan ie is it worth doing that – or just get it with a plan. Isn’t the SAVING on the monthly plan the main criteria for purchasing the phone??
Watch the 90sec SB commercial Samy bought for the “Note” this Sunday on the SB. I will own this phone, one way or the other.

International version sells at Pacific Mall for $670, and you can get a car charger, case, & screen protector included.
Buying from Bell will amount to $824.84 with HST. This is with no additional accessories.
Wake up people! Why will you spend an extra $150 for an LTE version but poorer CPU and no button!?!

Let me guess you are a isheep?… I wonder if Apple will stop supplying updates to the so called best phone iPhone 3GS this year. Anyways at least Samsung invented something Apple wouldn’t do. Second Apple priced its phones that high because of the GB in them. 16GB is 659, 32GB is 769 & the 64GB is 869. So you are telling me it cost 100 more for 10GB of more memory on each device? Give me a break. Samsung here showed they put a huge display on a phone + many more things Apple has not put into their phones. I am not a Fan boy of Samsung or Apple or any other company but its funny to read comments like yours & hard to not comment.

Or we can just say F U and not buy? or if you must buy, we can just say F U and not buy under contract. Problem is they know you’re Canadian candy asses who will bend over and take it. Suck on that Canada. You are push overs. Or you can push back. Your choice.

I hope for this price the phone will drive me to work everyday, Cook me dinner, Give me a shave, Cut my hair, do my laundry, Clean my house, Do my kids homework, Drive my kids to school everyday, fly me to vacations, and also give me pleasure. Now that would be worth the price. But other than that for $800 bucks people can buy a decent used car.

It appears the 3 vendors have different specs for the note. Rogers lists ext memory as 16 GB vs the other two show 32. Also, Rogers uses 2.0 Bluetooth vs the other two use 3.0. Rogers has standalone GPS, the others use assisted only. Rogers does not include the FM radio the others mention. Do we assume each vendor has unique technical configuration?

Is it really better to buy this phone from Expansys or Amazon or even Pacific Mall?
1. Those phones are international versions which means no Canadian warranty. So maybe you save $50, but if anything goes wrong with the phone, it’s going to cost more than $50 to get it fixed.
2. Buying from Amazon.com will incur customs duties, so it’s not likely to be cheaper. (And the cheapest phone on Amazon.ca at the time of writing is $769.)
3. There is no guarantee that Samsung will support these unlocked international versions when it comes to updating the OS to Ice Cream Sandwich. Check the reviews on Amazon.com for a discussion of this issue.
Although I don’t like the prospect of paying $729 for an locked phone, I like it more than paying $50 to $60 less for a phone with no warranty that may not get ICS.

North american version(i717) – LTE support, no button(which is suppose to be more ICS friendly than N7000,,,,so i’ve read) and slightly slower processor speeds according to benchmarks i’ve read. (search for ‘compare i717 and n7000)
I for one will well my 4s for the i717.
