WIND Mobile to release the Galaxy Nexus “in time for Valentine’s Day”

WIND Mobile has the Galaxy Nexus online as “coming soon”. This was once quickly listed on their website for the outright price of $649, then pulled. It’s also known that rival carrier Mobilicity will be releasing the Android 4.0 powered device on February 6th – a mere one week away – and it’s also assumed that WIND and Videotron will go live on this date. However, a recent Tweet by WIND Mobile states that “The #GalaxyNexus is hitting stores in time for Valentine’s Day”… which could indicate that the launch could be upwards of almost 2-weeks away.

    • I assume the ones they sell will have this fixed. I’m using a GN on Wind (bought from Virgin). It still has the roaming issue. Then again I haven’t received the 4.0.2 update yet and apparently that will fix the problem. It’s a very annoying problem.

    • It isn’t quad core that you want, it’s a fast dual core. 2.0 GHz cortex A15 or “Krait” (not A15, but close). Quad core is overkill for a phone. What highly threaded apps will you ever be running. The speed boost from higher clock speed will be much more useful the majority of the time. Better GPUs will also help. Q3 cannot come soon enough!

FYI I have a Prime with a Tegra 3, I’m not just hating on quad core devices

  5. Back around Jan 13th, I posted on the Wind forum trying to start a discussion about why the GN was so delayed at Wind. Was it testing, supply issues, plain incompetance? The post ended up being viciously attacked by a bunch of the Wind groupie forum members that I would suggest that launching the GN on the same date as BOGUS (Bell, Rogers, Telus), would be a good business tactic. Reading the rest of the forum I came to realize that anyone who had any sort of problem with Wind or their service was treated equally so. Pretty much turned me off wanting a GN on Wind altogether.

It’s too bad, GN on the $29.99 plan would have been amazing. But this phone is 3 months late, the service is questionable, and the customer service is evidently terrible. I want to support non-BOGUS carriers, but perhaps not today. Maybe in Q3 2012.

    • You’ll find fanboys anywhere you go. If you make decisions based on annoying fanboys you’ll never end up buying anything.

  7. @ 3DoubleD

I picked up the GN in mid December from Virgin and dropped my Wind SIM into it and have not regretted it for a second. If you really wanted the GN, you could have even bought it from Europe.

George is absolutely right. Don’t let the bad apples (ahem, pardon the pun), ruin it for you. If you want a specific phone, be strong in your convictions and get it. Does’t matter what it is, as long as it supports what you want to do with it.

  8. Too little too late I am afraid. My alter ego is amusing much like MJ in a moo moo.. the reason wind did not have it was indeed supply issues. They have no money and no real clout out there. Last to the party as usual.

jabroni would be proud of the wind trolls. they drink the kool aid by the pail. It is a good phone but placing it on a sub par network.. well.. you know.. and to pay top dollar for a phone with no warranty.. well that is the wind way.

    • @Ted: “The big 3 is a bit more expensive cause their service works. you pay for what you get.”

A bit more expensive? A BIT???? You, sir, are either a shill or an i***t – maybe both. I pay less than $40 monthly at Mobilicity and Wind’s pricing is similar. At Robelus I’d be paying THREE TIMES that amount. $600 sounds like a lot to pay up front for a phone, granted – but if you got that phone from Robelus for $99 you’d pay MANY TIMES the $500 difference over the THREE LONG YEARS of contract you’d have to sign up for.

  12. If I wasnt so busy being a trollo on winds site I could have been first on here telling lies. So blah blah blah warranty blah blah jabroni blah blah. I get much more attention on winds site, and thats all my handlers want, meaningless, unsubstantiated lies, untruths, and meaningless bogeyman scare tactics. None of it has to be true, I get paid by the post.
