We’ve seen the complete price list for the Rogers Nokia Lumia 710 – a shockingly low $255 outright. The estimated release date was tentatively set for February 6th, but we are getting reports from across the country that stores have received stock and allowed to start selling them (nothing is yet live on the Rogers site). It’s certainly nice finally to see a fresh Windows Phone in Canada! Who’s buying?
More soon!
(Thanks tipster!)
Mobile carrier employees were invited to a Feb 2nd Lumia event, im sure we will here the release date then

Is Rogers only carrying the black model?
White model it looks pretty good, and also be cool if they have the different colors for the back door cover

does it work on Wind Network? If so, I would like to give WP7 a try for $255.

Yup, looks like it has AWS. We’ll probably have to wait and see for sure. And you’ll need to unlock it as well.

Do all Rogers phones work on Fido or do they need to be unlocked?

You’d have to buy it outright (awesome price) and then pay Rogers an “unlocking” fee. You can probably get it unlocked on the net cheaper, but you’d most likely void the Rogers waranty if you did it that way.

They work, no unlock needed.

Don’t know about the Lumia 710, but I just had to unlock a friends Nokia X7 this weekend that was origianlly locked on Rogers so she could use it with Fido. If the Lumia 710 is the same then it’s likely you’ll need to unlock it to work on Fido even though they’re the same network, but different providers. No problem, only cost $8.

I put a Fido card in my Rogers Samsung Focus before I had unlocked it and it worked no problem.

What do you mean “old phone”? It launched first on T-mobile on Jan 11th?!?!
For those asking about AWS band.
Here’s a link to the T-Mobile Specs

Would be nice if anyone who picks up this phone can indeed confirm that it has the AWS Band.

“Says on the box”. That sounds like you’ve got one in your hot little hands! Can you add anything to the story? Is it indeed available in stores now?

I might pick this one up as I think the 800/900 are not AWS, then again I could be wrong. Might be a first time affordable WP7 device for me.

The reason I’m interested is because of the great price!!! Seriously anyone looking for an affordable phone from a reliable brand, this would be it. It’s not completely entry level and it’s running Window Phone OS. So for anyone wanting to give Windows Phone a try, but at the same time don’t really want to blow a whole whack of cash, this is the best option.

Heading to work now, gonna see if we got them in. Entry level specs if you compare to Android, but this is WP7, highly optimized to its hardware. Looking forward to cracking one open and playing with it.

How does this compare to the Samsung Focus? You can get a Focus for the same price. Whats the difference?

FFC, better chipset, changable covers and better design. 710 wins over the Focus.

Seeing I’ve posted 4 times in this thread, I figure I’m the focus of the accusations of being a Rogers employee.
I don’t work for Rogers, and never would. I sell Candy. One of the main reasons I’m excited about this device is the outright purchase price. I currently have a WM6.5 device, that I bought outright; it’s unlocked, and I don’t do contracts.
I’m super excited about the upcoming Win8. I’m looking to keep everything in the same ecosystem. So it’s going to be the 710 for now, and in 6-12 months one of the new WP8 and the wife will inherit the 710.

Windows Phone 7 devices perform extremely smoothly in day to day functionality due to Microsoft’s strict hardware requirements for Windows Phone 7 devices and also because the coding on the Windows Phone platform is pretty efficient. Even devices that do not have dual core processors have extremely fluid performance. Combined with the low outright price point makes this a highly attractive device. No android device in this price range would perform as smoothly in day to day functions and no iOS devices would ever be priced this low, hence why people are excited.

I’m excited for this as well. Hoping to buy one for my mom as she needs a new phone but doesn’t use her phone enough to justify buying an expensive premium device. I hope the build quality on this is improved compared to other Nokia devices. The X7 was such a disaster.

I am going to buy one outright… then regret it in a few months when the 900/910 comes out, as I lack self-discipline.

Picked one up tonight from the Rogers+ store in Mississauga. Paid $288 out the door. It says 1700Mhz on the side of the box and I’ve purchased my unlock code online. Once I get the unlock code and modify my WIND sim to fit the micro slot, I’ll follow up on this post.

Your honesty made me laugh. Likely because I will probably do the same thing. I’ll play with it in the store, be wowed by Nokia Drive, buy it on impulse, then regret my decision when the 910 comes out with a 12 megapixel camera and superior build quality/screen/battery/etc.

Eglinton/Creditview store. When I left, they had 5 remaining. Unlock code is from an online source, paid $8.99USD. Rogers will provide a code after 30 days and for $50.
As for those that scoff, live and let live.

FYI, the Canadian (i.e. for Rogers) version of the Lumia 710 will feature a Penta-band antenna compatible with all HSPA+ carriers in Canada.
Assuming unlocked, which is frankly very easy to do and cheap online (20$), the Lumia 710 from Rogers will work on:
- Rogers
- Fido
- Telus
- Koodo
- Bell
- Solo
- Virgin
- Videotron
- Mobilicity
- Wind
- Public
… to name a few.

That’s not correct. There is no way at all that it could be pentaband, because the Snapdragon chipset doesn’t support it. That said, everything points to it working with AWS, so it should work on any carrier in Canada EXCEPT Public.

Also bought mine for $288 outright. If you’re wondering about how the phone feels, check your local Rogers store and find out. They have dummy versions on display.
Physical buttons do not feel cheap, at least not to me.
If anyone’s wondering about what Rogers specific apps were added: urMusic and My Account (displays personal data/voice/text usage – pretty useful).
Loved how all the Rogers reps gathered around to play with my phone – they tots have no idea about WP7…

Are you able to set up MMS on Wind? I know it’s been a problem with WP7 because the OS doesn’t give you enough control over the APN settings. My previous T-Mobile HD7 on Wind and my current Focus on Fido were never able to send/receive MMS because WP7 doesn’t give you enough control over APN settings.
Is the 710 any better in this regard?
Like or Dislike:

Yes, I’d like to know if MMS is working on Fido with these phones. Although, from all the reading I’ve done I personally think that it’s Fido’s policy to disable MMS for unlocked non-Fido phones. If MMS doesn’t work on this phone with Fido, I’d pretty much think it’s confirmed.

I will be getting this phone through Rogers! This is a great phone for many reasons:
1. You don’t need to buy data with this one
2. Cheap price for superior Microsoft quality
3. Specs of phone( 1.4 megahertz processor)< insane. 720 p hd video recording. A very fast phone.
Overall it is a great phone to get for the price of only 50 dollars on three year term. This is categorized in the smartphone lite category, not even sure why it's there. It's not a ton a different from he iPhone.
