Samsung on the Galaxy S III: “We are still reviewing several options when to launch”

The Samsung Galaxy S III will most likely be embraced like the other Galaxy S devices – with massive adoption and huge worldwide sales. Over the past few weeks there’s been a few rumours of its impressive quad-core, OS 4.0, HD display specs, but also talks of the GS III being delayed. During Samsung’s earnings call yesterday the company acknowledged the Galaxy S III exists, but didn’t give a clear view of any impending official announcement. When an analyst asked if we’ll see the GS III in Q2 or Q3, or before Apple releases the iPhone 5, Younghee Le, Samsung’s VP of Marketing, stated that “We are still reviewing several options when to launch, so I’ll let you know when it’s decided”.

Earlier reports revealed that the Galaxy S III will launch “before summer”, so hopefully we’ll see it well before June 20th.

  1. Nice, at least this 100% confirms the existence of a Galaxy S3 =D. Sure might be delayed, but glad we got a confirmation.
Should of also asked an update on when Ice Cream Sandwich will get pushed out to Galaxy S2, Note, Tab Line.

    • If no launch date has been set, it can’t really be delayed can it? From what I’ve read, they want to plan a better worldwide releaase instead of spreading the release on so many months like last year over different country.

As for ICS, Bell already announced an april release. International release from Samsung should be somewhere in february or march. (There’s already a lot of beta ROMs floating around the net)

  2. Who cares? Its battery life is gonna suck anyway. Tell me when the lumia 900 is being launched, now thats something i care about.

    • Lumia devices have poor battery life. Worse than SGS2

    • I don’t know why people keep bringing up the battery life. My SGS2 can last 20-24 hours. My iPhone 4 can last 7-8 hours.

I have no doubt that the SGS3 will have even better battery life.

  3. If they don’t release it before the new iPhone, they’ve lost the plot. It’s good to maximize GS OUR sales, but would be dumb to kill their momentum by letting apple’s hype machine down their voice out.

    • I Disagree!
As @youdidnthearitfromme says below, I’d have the launch date exactly the same day as the iPhone 5!

If the phone companies don’t screw it up again, as they did with their delaying of their releases of the SG2 and SGN, then we could see what kind of hold Apple really has on the market.

  4. @whocares What battery life are you referring too? If you’re using the GSII as a reference, I find it lasts longer when compared to my friends Iphone 4S’. This is even before I rooted and tweaked it. Ya,the use of a quad core is concerning for battery life but maybe they finally used some of the numerous advancements that are floating around for battery tech or have optimized the CPU for battery life. Can’t know until they release it! ;)

    • If done right, more core can actually mean better battery life. A CPU with 4 cores running at 25% should theoratically give about the same performance as a dual-core running at 50% while using less power.

  5. regardless of when Apple is to release the iPhone 5, it will still outsell any Samsung Phone Period. Apple has much to big a following and the dominance will continue.

  6. I agree with Zomby, having 4 cores is nothing, but they should compensate with better battery life. Also I don’t see what apps there will fully utilize quad core, let alone the current dual core. Maybe better multi-tasking?

  7. I hope Samsung is pushing it back in line with their commitment earlier this year to optimize the battery life of their phone line.

  8. I hope that they launch the GS3 same day as the iPhone 5 and just hammer the promotion, and put them head to head. See once and for all who the better company is. Not saying this would ever happen, but be interesting to see none the less.

  9. Samsung should release the S3 at the same time as the iPhone 5, when Apple holds back their stock (like they always seem to do) Samsung could make a killing.
Regardless of if they actually release it then I would like to see some improvements to the battery life, not to say that my Nexus’ battery life is short, but a longer life would make my phone that much better.
