Rumours surfaced yesterday that Samsung was prepping to announce a follow-up to the Galaxy S II with the Galaxy S III at Mobile World Congress in February. Expected specifications have this possibly running Android OS 4.0, a quad-core processor and a Super AMOLED Plus 720p display. However, new reports from various tech sites are stating similar stories that the flagship GS III announcement has been delayed. No specific reasons are sourced other than Samsung wasn’t happy with the time delay from the GS II announcement and the U.S. launch. However, a couple slight glimpses of hope – Samsung will have “interesting stuff” at MWC, and that they’re still poised to launch the Galaxy SII “before summer.”

Good, let the consumers enjoy the GS2 before you rush out the 3rd.

Good. I will be upgrading, but I want to wait until the summer. The later the release, the better my resale value will be.

I want it sooner just for the simple reason that the single core / dual core phones, which are still reasonably good, will drop in valuation.

it’s been almost a year since galaxy s2 was announced. Blame the north american carriers for releasing the galaxy s2 half a year after the initial launch.

I bet you feel inferior cause an iPhone just feels tiny in your hands and just doesn’t have the girth and performance a Samsung has. Samhung.

This is why i bought my Nexus and didnt even consider waiting for the sgs3. I tried that with the s2 and the delays just kept on coming and coming. Especially for us Canadians

I should say this that maybe Samsung is doing the right thing here. They need to let us enjoy the devices we just bought before they release this one. I know a lot of people bought the Galaxy s2 & the s2 LTE.

That’s good…. they’re making specs too high too fast, it makes no sense because they aren’t even utilizing DUAL-CORE at 1.2ghz 100%…why go to the next level when you can make a similar clocked chipset but with better efficiency.. so that everyone can utilize it. It’s not that I dont want to advance mobile technology, but they’re making quad-core which is useless..

100% agree, hardware is only going to take us so far.
It is going to reach a point where Companies will realize they need to optimize their code and help their developers to optimize their programs.

I know I am going to get flammed for this – but, I actually am not a fan of 4.3-5” screens.
Yes – I am a woman, so maybe my hands are smaller but I find these phones are getting too big. I have owned the Samsung Galaxy S Captive, and the HTC Raider and they are fan-tastic devices.
But the GalaxySC had it’s issues of some minor lag, and the GPS was not great. I LOVED my Raider, but dropped it in the sink .. 1 month into contract, and while I was uber upset, after buying a used IPhone 3GS (never owned an IPhone before) as a tide-me-over, I have come to realize bigger isn’t always better, faster isn’t always needed – and new devices? I think we can wait. I found myself fumbling with the massive screen of the Raider and unable to one-hand text.
While we are in the mantra of bigger, faster, stronger – we then forget how far we’ve come, how good we have it, and how good life can be. If we just sit. Relax and enjoy. The S3 will come soon, and also the S4 I am sure, but I think we should all calm down and be happy with what we have.
just my opinion.

i agree to some degree with you. but i have the 3gs, and i play with the Galaxy nexus often at work, and even though it is 4.65″ it doesn’t feel like it is so huge in my hands, and quite honestly the resolution is really not the same. its not even close to comparable. but when i heard about the sIII with it’s awesome specs saying april, it made me hesitate to get the nexus and wait for the SIII. i probably will still get the nexus but then sell it to get the SIII

And all of the spec nerds riot….until a few months later when a phone that’s already internally better than the GSIII comes out and they act like it’s yesterday’s news.

I got the Note and I love it and I do recognize that it is a niche product. The GS2 is the best ‘mainstream’ phone i’ve ever use. GS3 can’t get too big on the screen size because it might scare off some users (ladies usually). NExus is a great but GS3 will be the phone of the year again. FYI, I used iphone before, so i don’t label me as a fanboy.

Goodbye Samsung and hello Sony. Looks like I’ll be getting the Xperia Ion. 2 core @ 1.5, nfc, 4.6″ HD Bravia screen, HD video and 720p front camera, LTE, 12.1mp camera, Android 4.0 (coming soon), 16gb (extra 32gb micro sd), 1 gb RAM etc.
Either this or the HTC Edge.
Tired of waiting for Samsung

I’m all for releasing phones once per year, but don’t insert tech that is not necessarily required. If quad core actually makes a difference for battery life then fine, but otherwise don’t get it.
LTE so far it seems a rip-off in my opinion and I really hope devices won’t stop being released in HSPA versions any time soon.
Screen size can stop at 4.3″ for the flagship devices as the majority of people don’t need other sizes, and have larger/smaller variations released in limited quantities.
If anything, change the screen performance and put in some Gorilla glass 2.
Battery really needs to be better optimized and money thrown into research for long lasting tech.
And probably others…
My point is, don’t release stuff that 99% of users don’t need just for the sake of releasing new devices.

Totally Agreed!
Love my SGN, but it’s a tad too larger for my shirt pockets, the sucker has slid out onto the floor about eight times now.
