Mobilicity brings back the $40/month all-in “Super Savings” plan

During the holiday season Mobilicity came out with a $40 all-in plan called the “Happier Holidays Plan”. This recently expired, but history seems to be repeating itself as it’s been brought back to life as the “Super Savings” plan. You can all thank the upcoming Super Bowl XLVI for the plan discount. Again, it’s $40/month and includes Unlimited talk, text and data, North American Long Distance, Caller ID, Voicemail, Global Texting, Call waiting, call forwarding an 3-way calling. The plan will go into place starting Wednesday, January 25th and be available until February 5th. Hopefully the Galaxy Nexus launches before the 5th…

(Thanks tipster!)

    • @AWS Fan, For three weeks when switching ISP’s, my tethered HTC snap was my sole internet connection. I put 20 gigabytes through it in those weeks and they never said a word, the speed was great the whole time, even downloading 700mb linux isos. I refute your allegation of bad speeds and cast aspersions on the motivation for your message.

    • Mobi’s data policy has changed recently, Rod. They are now capping the max speed @ 2.0Mbps across the board and max downloads to 100MB/15 minutes, after that your speeds are crippled. There’s also a max download total in effect but who knows what that is.

Lucky you downloaded the 20GB when you did, these days that could be enough to kick you off the network altogether.

  6. This kind of reasonable, low-margin, pro-consumer pricing is BAD for Canadians! How dare they!

  7. And for something roughly equivalent to this, I pay $170 a month to Telus. Good thing my employer is paying the tab. But I will go to Mobilicity when my contract expires.

    • technically, mobi brought the plan out first way back in 2010 christmas. Wind matched it. But yeah, thats about right. less coverage, same plan, unfortunately.

  13. Does anyone know how is their coverage in Calgary ( southern part of the city in particular ) ? I am not speaking about their official coverage map , because that can be misleading sometimes . Wind Mobile has a lot of death spots in Calgary , for example .

Thank you in advance for your time .

    • I live in the far SW in Calgary (Bridlewood) and the coverage is pretty decent. Althoug indoors at home I only get 1-2 bars, I can make phonecalls no problem. It is better than Wind in this area.
Check coveragemapper for real world coverage.

    • Much better than wind in calgary. Wind’s “coming soon” zones never came. (Airdrie is still “coming soon in 2010!”)

Mobi kept improving. I guess mobi is the “slow and steady” where wind is the hare, they just launches new cities and forgets the ones where they already have presence.

  15. This is great for power users, but expensive for those who want no Internet. If you take the $25 talk and text plan, WIND has more coverage and features than Mobilicity for the same price.

This “promotion” is very recurrent. Watching YouTube videos on a 5230 is annoying because the buffering wheel appears about every minute, especially videos other than 240p.

i wonder what Mobilicity is thinking…

    • Oh really? I believe Wind’s 25 plan has less features than mobi’s 25 plan. (mobi includes social data).

  16. For some of the Telecoms this is like a gold rush in the Wild West. We know that Data does not cost what they charge.. like I said before, $70 1gig Rocketstick vs $30gig android……. GRAVEY!!! And it’s so wrong.. I don’t really like government getting involved, but really!!

  17. They should seriously just keep the $40/month plan permanent, it’s annoying that they keep popping up like a whack-a-mole…

  18. The data speeds are bad but you get what you pay for. My teksavvy has been mostly down for a couple of days and tethering my galaxy nexus on mobilicity is actually getting me through it until I can buy a new modem. I HAVE been able to use youtube and do some mild browsing/facebook/blogs, surprisingly. I don’t really agree with them adding massive amounts of customers to an already congested network because at peak times I barely get a quarter of a megabit down, but hopefully they know more about what they’re doing than I do.

    • Hey its a wireless network after all! You cant expect Robelus like speeds in mobi / wind because with robelus, people DONT download anything, because of the overage. Thus robelus has a not so congested network!

  19. It’s difficult to make a decision between Wind and Mobilicity. Mobilicity has better coverage at work in downtown Toronto, while Wind has better coverage at home in Etobicoke. Damn it, merge already.

  20. When does Mobilicity’s “$40 Plan is back” become their plan? What an annoying marketing strategy. On and off again.. clearly after Christmas gifting the subscribers they captured churned after realizing their coverage sucks and their network channel capacities are maxed out on data. So let’s bring back the $40 dollar plan try and load subs as we need to sell ASAP.

  21. Agree with first poster above….their data is horrendous! They include an unlimited data with it, but don’t tell you that you can’t use it for internet. Wtf? Its either unlimited internet to use for what the customer wants or bandwidth throttling. Not both.
Check out every other post about Mobilicity on Howard Forums, all about data throttling.

  23. I just got off the phone with Mobilicity. I was looking at porting my numbers from one of the big3. Unfortunately they will not ship hardware, even if you offer to pay up front, that includes sim cards. I have confirmed with them that they service my area, they however do not have a retail location on Vancouver Island. The Mobilicity Rep stated I would need to take a ferry over to Vancouver, buy the hardware, then take a ferry back in order to get service. I’m sorry as much as I want to give them my hard earned money, this is not customer service by a long shot. If anyone from Mobilicity reads this, please note; If a customer cannot easily buy what you are selling, they will not buy it.

  24. @betadan I am not sure who you are dealing with at Mobilicity seems to me to be unscrupulous and dishonest in their attempt at a sale. Mobilicity has absolutely no sites on Vancouver Island. You would be in a constant state of Roaming on Rogers and would need to have the wallet feature topped up all the time to make and receive calls. Again Vancouver Islan is not in their home zone.
