Virgin adds 5 more buddies to the $35/month talk and text plan

Virgin has upped the amount of ‘buddies’ on their $35/month talk and text plan. Starting today the plan will see unlimited Canada-Wide Calling to 10 Buddies, up from 5. As the doc states above, this is in place “until further notice”. Here are the plan details:

- 10 unlimited buddies,
- Unlimited text (international text included)
- Unlimited canadian LD+ no roaming charge in Canada
- Unlimited evenings and week-ends starting at 5pm
- 200 anytime minutes
- Data starting at $5

  1. very good. wish they would buck the trend and include caller ID, though.

    • It’s definitely horrible that carriers refuse to include caller ID because most people will pay for it without thinking…but try calling in to customer service and asking if they can give it to you as a bonus. Virgin’s pretty good about free CID/VM.

  3. I’d rather have caller ID than some of these features. The price carriers in Canada pay for caller ID is highway robbery.

  5. Do any of thesese x buddy plans allow one to specify an international number from which calls can be just _received_ for free?

  6. @ Matt, yeah but Virign doesn’t charge LD on the anytime minutes or the evenings and weekends, which start at 5pm as apposed to 6pm. Honestly I would rather spend the extra 3 bucks to guarentee no LD charges in Canada..

  7. Virgin will not allow you to combine this with the 6gb for $30…. unfortunately. They have the $70 10 buddies with 6 gig but no Canada wide anytime minutes.

  8. Too funny… Give you 5 more buddies that you aren’t going to call. Let’s face it, most cell phone users are all about texting and data usage these days. Then again, Bell is good at giving customers nothing and making them think they’re getting a good deal. Oh wait… I mean Virgin. ;)

    • Let’s face it, you’ve no idea what the average consumer wants. You’d think they text and data, but more often then not, they are constantly on the phone with their coworkers, bosses, employees, spouses, friends, etc.

The high end users are doing the data thing, everyone else, not so much.

    • I sell Virgin (different Matt to the one above). Believe me, people use it. Ive seen several bills with more than a thousand minutes, billed for none of them because of the buddy system. Ive seen more than that even, way more. I myself get pretty close to 500. That would cost a lot.

  9. 2 reasons why this plan is good:

Unlimited long distance with ALL candians, not just the top 10

    +

    5pm is better than 6pm :)

  10. anyone know any company other than Wind that gives you free international calling…

i know that verizon has unlimited calling to verizon customers but thats in the US (they do have no roaming fees though which is awesome) but what about here in Canada…

anyway I can bypass the $35.00 a month add on with Rogers? (which would make my montly over $100 a month… no thanks)
