Mobile World Congress is coming up and HTC will be there in full force. One of the most important and most talked about devices is the rumoured HTC Edge – a Tegra 3 1.5GHz quad-core Android that has a 4.7-inch touchscreen display (720p HD resolution). According to a report from PocketNow, the original publication who leaked the specs and renderings, says that HTC has took an unexpected twist by renaming the device. Apparently the Edge will now be known as the Endeavor. There’s no official reason as to why, but suggestions are that it’s to build “buzz” for the pending announcement. I’m sure we’ll find out more details as we get closer to MWC in February. Other notable specs that we can assume the Endeavor/Edge to come packed with is an 8-megapixel camera, Beats Audio, 1GB of RAM and only 10mm thin.

You know quad core actually runs more efficient then dual core, so battery life should be on par if not better then dual core phones out now.

to get 1080p you need to have 1080 pixels… I haven’t seen a phone with those specs yet. Most are 1280×800 or 1280×720. I may be wrong though, wouldn’t be the first time.

Would love for the Edge/Endeavor/Supreme to come out sooner rather than later. The Ville doesn’t seem like all that much of a step up from the Rezound and it sounds like the Zeta won’t be coming out until the year’s end.

you are more likely to carry this 4.7″ device around all the time than a 7″ or 10″ tablet. welcome to 2012, phone screens are getting bigger because there’s a market and necessity for it, whether it’s due to larger battery packs or higher DPI, deal with it.

To the guys who made the comment that iPhone’s are for girls, grow up! That is very offensive and sexist. I do not like iPhone’s. I will admit, I had the iPhone4 and was so happy when I sold it. I use a BlackBerry for business and I have the HTC Amaze on my second line. Also, I have the Google One which I rooted to CM7 and love it! I love Android. IMO, iPhone’s are for people who don’t like complicated phones. My 5 year old niece knows how to use an iPhone!
Plus I plan on getting the Galaxy Nexus and the HTC Endeavor.
I’m a proud phonewhore.

You kinda pointing out the obvious. Girls like iPhones because it’s easy to use and there’s tons of accessories for it, just like you said, your 5 year old niece knows how to use it, and shockingly she’s a girl.
Guys on the other hand like to tinker with their toys, so Android is where you can tinker to your hearts content, it’s so customizable, unless you leave your phone stock, no two Android phone has the same setup.
According to a recent study in 2011 by Infographics, the demography is Android users are 10% more likely to be male, while iPhone users are 18% more likely to be females.

More 4-4.3 inch superphones please.

I am waiting for quad-core phones. I currently have an ancient Blackberry 8330 that needs to be retired in favour of a fast, full-featured new device. When I read about quad-core devices being around the corner in the fall, I decided to wait until they were released to finally upgrade. I hope they debut by spring. Out of contract and eagerly waiting…

@aka, just because I said iPhones are easy to use doesn’t mean it’s targeted towards females. Do you think all females are stupid and don’t know how to root an Android?? That only guys know how to root an Android?? That’s sexist! Just because I mentioned my 5 year old niece doesn’t mean I was targeting females. My 7 year old nephew knows how to use an iPhone and wants an iPad. Does that make a difference?? I was at my Acura dealership today and the “female” service manager has the Samsung GSII, the other service rep had an iPhone. I am seeing more and more females with Androids than iPhones where I live.

Who said anything about “..all females [being] stupid”… yes.. it seems you did.
What he’s saying is that in general, guys like to tinker more with their phones, whilst girls (once again.. in general) prefer simplicity and aesthetics.
One could also say that since the average female’s hands are smaller than the average guy’s, iPhones are more suitable for them as opposed to a 4.3″+ android phone, but then again, no one’s stopping you from buying that 4.7″ HTC and struggling to use your hand to climb that massive phone, just to reach that oh-so-distant notification drop down menu.
PS: Plz dont bring up the whole “don’t generalize” bull.. because.. it’s true.

A couple of points that were raised, need to be set straight:
1. The iPhone 4S, like it or not, has some serious graphics processing under the hood. The GPU is a PowerVR SGX543MP2, the MP2 meaning dual GPU. The chipset is basically the iPad2′s chipset running at 800MHz instead of 1GHz. There is no Android (at best a single SGX 540, or single Adreno 220. or Exynos) phone right now that packs that sort of graphics processing power, and that will remain true until at least the Tegra 3 based phones come out. So for those who actually understand the true implications of the chipsets for both platforms, stop talking about 4.7″ this or 5″ that. I have both an iPhone 4S, a Desire HD (want to replace that with an Amaze), a Motorola XT720 (Milestone(, a Motorola RAZR (and want a RAZR Maxx), a Blackberry Torch 9800, and an HTC HD7. All have their strong points, all also have weak ones.
2. Because a device is easy to use, doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a good OS underneath it. I thought this was shown to be a false argument with OSX. iOS, in my experience, is still smoother than Android (and that includes a variety of verisons, from Android 2.2 to 2.3.X to CM7 anbd CM9). There is a lot of hidden power inside of iOS. There are a lot of great features and concepts in the 2.X versions of Android, and I am surn even more in ICS. But being able to load in custom ROMs is more of an indication of unhappiness with an OS than a feature; if the current Android OS was as good as it could get, there wouldn’t be any need for custom ROMs. Yes, you can’t load custom ROMs into an iPhone, and even if I had the ability to jailbreak my iPhone 4S, I wouldn’t. I have loaded custom ROMs into a previously owned HTC Dream (G1 in the US) and a previously owned Samsung Captivate. Both were loaded because of laggy performance with the stock ROMs, and both had some issues, but ran better. How is is this and indication of superiority?

Kostas nailed it. The A5 in the 4S/iPad2 still has a faster GPU than anything out there. Yes, it’s faster than the Tegra3. It’s no longer a hilarious massacre like Tegra2 was, closer to 25-33% boost, less so in shader-bound scenarios, but Tegra3 is still immediate-mode vs. the PVR’s tile-based deferred rendering.

Don’t give me that crap about “male vs. female devices”. I used the iPhone 4 for a year and am currently using a Nexus S with ICS. Bought a Galaxy Nexus at release, but returned it immediately as it was way too big. I love tinkering and customizing, but I’d switch back to the iPhone in a second if there was an AWS version.
My three primary uses of my smartphone are calling, messaging/e-mail, and surfing.
1 – Calling: I find any phone with a screen size greater than 4″ to be a royal pain. Absolutely no OS preference for this.
2 – Messaging: Anything less than 3.5″ gets frustrating. As long as there’s threaded SMS and push e-mail, I have no OS preference.
3 – Surfing: I’m really not a fan of Apple, but no mobile browser that I’ve tried can measure up to the one in the iPhone. I’ve yet to try the WP7.5 IE browser.
Aside from these areas, I choose performance over looks. And by that, I mean the “fluidity” of the OS rather than what’s under the hood.
I really want to try WP7.5, as that’s the only major platform I haven’t used yet, and based on what I’ve read so far, it may be perfect for me.

For those worrying about battery life, I rooted my HTC Sensation and now running ICS 4.0.3 with Sense and I get roughly twice the battery life. To give an example, before 4.0 it would barely make it till evening; now it can go until evening next day with average usage.
Then again I’m not a power user, but even for a power user I’m sure you’ll see improvements.
And the quad-core implementation, if done correctly, should increase battery life further.

Too big to be pocketable. With that screen and being that thin I give it 3 hours battery life for power use…unacceptable. The Razr Maxx will send a big message to the industry hopefully.
