Kik for BlackBerry updated with huge performance and battery improvements

The first release, or rather re-release, of Kik for BlackBerry reintroduced the app to the community after almost a year of radio silence. While the audience grew on iOS, Android and Windows Phone, BlackBerry users were wondering whether RIM’s lawsuit would keep the software away forever.

But in October the company debuted an App Store-free version of the instant messenger, which can be downloaded over at Kik’s website. Now there has been an update to fix a number of performance and battery-related issues. Gladly, it is easy to update: all you need to do is head to Settings, then Help and finally Check for Updates.

  1. Deleted it because its still draining my battery. Sticking to bbm and facebook/twitter.

    • I’m not sure about battery drain on a BB, but I’m using Kik on my Android and it uses no more than 1-2% of the battery in a day.

  3. Can anyone using a bb tell me how they like kik? I’m using it on my Android only because I have friends with a bb so we need some sort of cross platform messaging app. I have been experiencing issues with delayed messages, and even the same messages being sent twice – the 2nd one hours later.
Because rim has a cult following for bbm, it’s difficult to convince bb users to use anything else, especially when it doesn’t seem to be very reliable so far in my experience.

    • @Kruti – thanks, but your personal opinion doesn’t really do anything in regards to my question. I asked for people’s experience with kik. But to address your comment, I tried Whatsapp and I found it even less user friendly than Kik. No profile, no customization, no thanks.

  4. Love it on my android. I travel a lot and it keeps my wife and I connected. You can send photos and files also.

But my buddy has it on his bb and he has noticed battery drain. Hopefully this will correct it.

  5. Works real fast between me on BB and a buddy on Android. I hope this wins out as the goto msg app so we have a standard already.
