Last week if was the free long distance promo that made the rounds at the carriers, but this week the latest trend is to offer customers 1 month of service for free. Rogers, Fido, Public, Bell and now Virgin is giving customers 1 month free when they sign up on any talk and text plan. To get in on this you’ll have to sign up on a 3-year or the Virgin Mobile SuperTab.
(Thanks tipster!)
Im waiting for them to copy Koodo and have $10 for CID, VM and unlimited text. Then i’ll jump the gun for their GN

Virgin’s plans already force you to pay for SMS in their plans, contrary to Koodo that lets you pay for the add-on separately.
Here are some examples:
* Virgin’s $20 plan is either identical to Koodo’s $20, or Koodo’s $15 plan + $5 SMS add-on from Koodo.
* Likewise, Virgin’s $25 plan is simply Koodo’s $20 plan with an add-on choice. This is a value if you want CID + Voice 10, but not if you want SMS.
* The $35 plan is interesting. It’s like Koodo’s, but has 50 less minutes and unlimited SMS instead. Not bad. Unlimited incoming can also be swapped out for unlimited 5 Canadian friends.
* The $50 plan has unlimited talk and text anywhere in Canada. This is Koodo’s $45 plan with a forced $5 SMS add-on. Not very creative, sadly.
Overall, the $35 plan seems to be the best value. There’s also a $35 prepaid plan with less features. $25 is decent for someone who loves to talk but doesn’t want to text. Everything else just imitates Koodo, showing a lack of originality.

Alex you need to do your home work. Virgins $25 plan has a choice of unlimited messaging or call display/voicemail. Again why pay more

This is the most ridiculous offer EVER!!!!! You have to sign up for 3 years = 36months…
Assuming a $50 plan, that’s a total of $1800. With the promo you pay only…$1750 (2.7% discount)
Total savings per month? $1.389 ahhahahahahahahhaha. Way to go Virgin…way to go..

Plus up to $100 in store credit on many phones, plus supertab, which uses 10% of the bill to pay off the device.
Would you rather they save you none? Quit being a cheap-a*s.

It’s actually better than Fido:
* Fido: whether or not you want a contract, you’re stuck with Fido for 2 or 3 years. Not flexible.
* Virgin: take any cheap phone, like the “Samsung Gravity 3 RÉ*Génération” and get a $50 Visa card, Before your free month ends, cancel, and you pay $100 plus taxes for your phone. But with the gift card, it’s like paying $50 for phone + one month.
This is an interesting deal, although it requires a credit check. Urban zones already have small carriers with similar deals. Those who don’t want or can’t access those can at least try out Virgin for only $50, then keep their phone.

as a consumer I feel insulted when they make offers like this.
The super tab you mentioned is just another marketing gimmick (For Quebec at least!). When you sign a 3yr plan, your device cost gets divided by 36. You can cancel the plan at any time but you have to pay the remaining months. Assuming the device costs $360 and that you cancel after 1 year, you’re left with $240 to pay.
With SuperTab and a $50 plan. After 1year you’d still owe them $300. SuperTab is only worth it, if you’re buying a $50-100 device. And no.. I’m not a cheap-a*s, thanks
