Starting tomorrow, December 15th, WIND Mobile will be re-introducing their Holiday Miracle plan – this gives Unlimited Canada-wide and US calling, unlimited texting, unlimited data, Call Control (Call Waiting, Call Forwarding, 3 Way Calling, Caller ID), and Voicemail. This is open to all new and existing WIND customers (current customers will have to pay a “one-time $30 processing fee”). However, if you signed up between December 7th and 14th, 2011″, WIND notes you “can switch to the Holiday Miracle plan free of charge”. In addition, according to the internal doc we received it says this promo plan is available to those who sign up on the WINDtab+. The terms and conditions states this promo ends on December 25, 2011.
Update: I’ve attached the full complete terms and conditions below.
Look for this tomorrow…
(Thanks tipster!)

Welcome back!

well “nothing” fits your statement…..waste of space.
Mobilicity recently put up a few more towers, one in Kits and one in Coquitlam. Looks to me like they’re doing just fine.
Now lets watch Wind try YET AGAIN to expand…..futile as it is, they were out the door first with half off plans and a new network….with a 68.5% success ratio on calls, and garbage service. Mobi came 6 months later with 99.5%, the same as the big 3. Solid network means more than anything…..one more thing.
Wind needs to solidify the network they have with the funds they have. They can’t do that, it’s pretty clear.

I spoke to Wind customer service. The lady told me this would last a year even though I told her that on the add it did not mention this. There is a line in the ‘terms and conditions’ that Wind has a right to terminate this plan at anytime. I am going to the Wind store to find out today. Also I left Rogers last month and joined Mobilicity. My first bill only 42 dollars. I might goto Wind though because they are getting bigger zone but my friend said in Vancouver there is alot of dead spots still and anytime he goes into metrotown his phone goes to ‘wind away’.

Executive 1: “WIND is doing what? Holiday Miracle Plan, again? Holy cow! How can we compete with that? Well, let’s launch the Huawei U2801 for $50 TODAY! That’ll stop the bleeding”
Executive 2: “How’s about expanding our network into other cities and giving our current customers a solid reason to stay? How’s about telling them thank you for staying with us and show them that we do have a plan and not to give up on us?”
Executive 1: “Nah, let’s call Alcatel and ZTE Mobile and see if they have phones for us! That’s what our customers want.”
Executive 2: “Ummm, I guess that’ll be enough…” Bubble thought, ‘maybe I should start looking for another job…where is everybody?’

I don’t know why everyone seems to be so hung up on expansion in order to survive. Sure, wider coverage the better, but I think a better signal in existing zones is a lot more important than just pure expansion. Like I said, I rather Mobilicity mass build new towers than expand.
Like or Dislike:

@deltatux
It’s not so much expansion to other cities, etc. but expansion within the zones they are trying to cover. For example in Vancouver, Mobilicity is not covering Delta, White Rock, West Vancouver, even some parts of Richmond. A lot of these surrounding areas are close enough that many people travel between them on a daily basis. When I asked them about it a year ago, they said they had no plans to expand to these areas. Wind on the other hand said they would expand, and they are…now there is even coverage in Abbotsford.
Point is, it makes the service that much more useful if the areas you travel to on a regular basis are covered and you rarely have to roam.

@Dave, exactly my point. That’s why I said I rather they cover their current zones than to expand. I think there’s some confusion over the terms used. By expansion, I meant adding new towers in other cities establishing new zones which is what WIND has been doing.
Personally, I want Mobilicity to push its existing borders a bit but most importantly, cover the dead spots. In Toronto, there are places where I get amazing signal, better than ROBELUS but then there are those pesky dead spots. This should be their priority over pushing into new cities. Cater those already on your network before expanding.

Dumb question, but does this only apply to usage within Wind’s zones? Because it says Canada-Wide calling, text, etc…So does that mean unlimited everything outside their zones as well?
If thats the case, peace-out Bell. I’ll gladly pay the cancellation fees and would prob still save more money over a 2 year term.

Any opinions on WIND vs. Mobilicity for data speeds in Toronto (mainly downtown)? I’m currently on the equivalent $40 F&F Mobilicity plan, with an additional $2 off I got for signing up for pre-authorized payment. I’m impressed with everything but the very variable, but mostly slow, data speeds. I’d happily switch and pay $2 more if the data speeds are better. WIND’s larger coverage isn’t a big deal to me, but it’d be a nice bonus.

All phones from Big 3 don’t work with New Entrants except for the Nokia N8. They do this to prevent their subs from going to New Entrants obviously.
If you don’t want to pay for a new phone that’s compatible, just get the Windtab+

Oh gosh, this deal looks so enticing.
Especially since one of my phones’ contract is up, and it currently on a month to month.
The only thing that is preventing me is the coverage on WIND. I’m currently on Rogers, and I don’t want to sacrifice coverage for price. I like to be able to use my phone wherever I go. In my home city, I have coverage but I may be in different parts of the west end, and don’t want to find myself paying extra money just to make a simple call because I’m not in the zone.
Decisions…decisions…

How is it confusing? ALL new plans since Wind switched to the new pricing model do not include tethering since they dropped the price of unlimited data from $35 to $10 and offer tethering as an additional $10 add-on.
The original HMP specifically had two listed features: 1) Unlimited data, and 2) Tethering.
This version follows the rules of all current plans, and the included feature is “Unlimited ON-PHONE data”.
Tethering is not on-phone. Therefore, not confusing.

Been with “Telus” since 1999, back in the day Clearnet was innovative, since the got swallowed by Telus, for me the service has been worst and prices are just going up. Just tired now.
Although the coverage might not be prestine with Wind, I will still give it a try. Clearnet, Fido even Rogers weren’t perfect when they started as well…Time for change.

For those of you sitting on the fence about getting this plan, don’t hesitate, get this plan now. Don’t hope for this plan to be offered again next Christmas 2012. The market will definitely be different next year.
1. 700Mhz spectrum auction players and questions will be clearer. Includes LTE questions.
2. The Little Three might be the Little Two, the Little One, or maybe yet, The Big Four.
3. Due to the similar spectrum of WIND and Mobilicity, Mobilicity is seen as the closest rival. Yet, since Moilicity hasn’t expanded or announced any changes for 2012, who knows if they’ll be here by next year. Bankrupty IMMINENT for Mobilicity?
4. All of the above will happen, so why should WIND discount this low, AGAIN?

Mobilicity will likely match this plan (my guess is Monday, Dec 18th)…yes, it takes them that long to competitively respond!
If they don’t, they lose relevance, even more. If they do, they’re seen as desperate. Reality, it’s what you’re supposed to do, it’s called being competitive.
BUT, to calm their customers down (including potential new customers), they have to announce what kind of strategic plan they have…they can delay actually implementing anything..like Rogers does (they’re the best at responding to market conditions quickly…then not actually doing anything about it!–but at least they said something to keep their current customers!).
Expansion plans around current markets, and expansion to other key Canadian markets is very important. Perceptively, it shows that you’re a “national carrier”, not a selective carrier, like Videotron. It doesn’t matter as a consumer if you don’t leave your urban area…it’s the other customer segment that is more lucrative, the Corporate or Business customer.
If they don’t announce anything within this key Christmas period, Mobilicity is toast. And with a new CEO to boot! What’s his name again? Anybody? Bueller? No key frontman or spokesperson to articulate that they are up to something.
Get this plan now folks, definitely will not be back next year. Mobilicity won’t be here next year…

Jue, the staff bulletin was posted online last year and tethering was included. Also, I worked there. There’s no such thing as any plan that officially included tethering since the pricing changes at the beginning of the year, it’s a whole different system/structure.
Holiday Miracle plan was not advertised heavily in-store until they changed the name of it to “Unbreakable40″ right after the holidays last year. Google for Unbreakable40 (or Irresistible35) flyer and you’ll see it.

When you cross the border, head to a T-Mobile store and get yourself a $10 SIM Card and plan…that’s NATIONAL…as in Continental USA for the same $10 with DATA. Or, head to a Kmart/Walgreens/Target, etc., and buy a Prepaid T-Mobile phone kit with airtime and data, always on sale for $10. Pop that SIM into your WIND/Mobilicity phone and you’re off to the races. Or chose another carrier…it’s like a buffet table of phones and plans so cheap…all national.
THEN, you wonder to yourself…why on earth isn’t it this easy in Canada? Then remember, oh yeah, the Big Three want to keep it that way.

I have had this plan for about a year now and I highly recommend it. And just to settle the confusion.
1) Yes you can tether your phone without penalties
2) Yes this plan will last as long as you pay the bill on time.
I frequently use netflix, internet radio, and Youtube a lot. So having unlimited data guaranteed for $40 bucks is amazing. plus calling my family in the USA for not a cent extra is also amazing. Lastly, Wind has the cheapest US roaming rates 25 cents a minute an 10 cents a kilobyte. You just can’t beat that.

Demobot, your post is the type that will start lots of confusion. You have LAST YEAR’s version, which is almost the same as this version, except yours comes with the official tethering add-on included free (and a larger soft cap).
Just because it’s the same name does not make it exactly the same plan, just like old CityFido is different than new CityFido.

I just switched to this plan, and asked (what seemed like) a knowledgeable CSR about tethering while I was switching.
ALL data plans include tethering. Only difference is, they can’t guarantee the speed/quality of the connection while you are tethering w/o the tethering add-on. That said, once you terminate the tethering connection, your speed/quality should be back to what it was before you started tethering.
The 6gb (six, not five apparently – he corrected me when I said five) fair usage thing applies to all data plans. Your limit for fair use may be higher with the tethering add-on though. Not sure, didn’t ask as I wasn’t interested in adding it to my plan.
Hope that helps clear up some of the confusion in the comments section. As always, you can call them yourselves and ask about how data works on the network. There aren’t any wait times so, you have nothing to lose and some confidence to gain.
