Looks like the Bell Galaxy Nexus promos have already started to happen – retailer Wireless etc locations inside Costco have started to offer a $75 cash card… which can apparently be used to drop the $159.99 new 3-year contract price, taking it to a low $84.99. Our tipster states that “When you buy a phone at wireless etc you take the phone up to the Costco til to pay. The cash card can be used on your purchase.”
is this for new acto’s only? or on upgrades too?

Pretty sweet. People should do that next time Virgin has a “bonus gift card” deal. That would eliminate the need to “buy other things” for that rebate.

Does the promo apply to off-contract? Can you even buy off-contract there?

Very interested to hear if you could buy it at off-contract/out-right there as well. Costco seems like they would be the most likely retailer to allow that.

Just to be clear….This is for NEW ACTIVATIONS only. I just spoke with the local wireless ect. No outright purchase or HUP’s.

That’s correct, they make you get a “30 day” plan.

FWIW, I was at Costco yesterday and the guy said they were giving a $125 gift card! Even if the phone was free, there is no way I would ever go back to Bell. I’ll wait til everyone else starts selling the phone in January.

The 75$ costco credit promotion have been available for ages and it’s for any phones, not just the Galaxy Nexus. It’s also good for other cariers (new activation only).

This is ridiculous. The Canadian Gov or CRTC or whom ever it is there job to see fit that NO Business/s should be able to dictate how people start buying things. What next ? You cant buy a TV or Fridge without a contract ? This does nothing but work against the consumer and the Companies them selves.
Being on a Contract is basically there way of screwing you over and holding everyone hostage for the term even if you are not happy or something goes wrong like a charge or bill you want to dispute. Contract means you have no voice, the only thing you can do is try to argue but unless your ready to go to court and spend thousands, you are screwed.
I was once one of the contract consumers, but learnt my lesson the hard way long ago.
Funny thing is, when i called and cancelled my contract and paid the $100 cancellation fee, the Carrier tried to do EVERYTHING they could to try to get me to stay on board even promising a NO CONTRACT plan.
Needless to say I said No Thanks, You had your chance.
More consumers need to Buy there phones and to hell with the Contracts!

I don’t like contracts either. However, most customers do not want to fork over the $650 to buy this device on a month to month plan.
The carriers do not force people to sign contracts, the customers decide and I am pretty sure most sign contracts to get the cheaper price.

With the new regulation on contracts what is the advantage of going no-contract?
Lets say you get a 3yr contract on a phone, you pay 150$ instead of 650$ (unlocked), (even if you got gift cards they dont matter), so in bell’s books you received a 500$ “rebate” in exchange of the contract, let’s say you want to cancel after half your contract (1.5yrs), you will pay 250$ in cancellations fees, but you saved 500$ and received gift cards when you took your contract. So really I see absolutely no reason to go no-contract even if I don’t plan to keep my contract ongoing.
In other words, you will save 13.88$ (500$/36month) on your phone for every month you keep your contract.

I work for wireless etc. there was a misprint about the cash card offer. It’s 75 not 125 and is available only with a new activation. However bell will give you unlimited long distance with your plan ($40 value) for renewing with them. You’ll have to pay the 160 but great a great device and a great service for the life of your term.

I am wondering about the wireless etc employee’s comment regarding free long distance for the duration of contract for renewing- this refers to a HUG, hardware upgrade, correct? Thanks

I have a “$50 Holiday Gift Card” from Bell… can I use it on the phone too? I can’t see why not, eh.

The last time I bought phones for the family was at a Wireless Etc. in a Costco, and the guy wrote up the “contract” which I took to the cash and paid for, then I came back with my receipt and he gave me the phones and gift cards (with all the rebates & sales Costco actually paid me $75 to buy two phones and Bell thew in another $50).
But the point is I didn’t get the gift cards until after I bought the phones so I could use them to buy the phones.

I purchased my last 2 phones at Wireless Etc in Costco and I was able to use my gift card on the phone itself. It’s not like they care anyway because they give you Costco gift cards so you could use them to buy anything in the costco.

Just a small note – the gift cards come off AFTER taxes. So you’re taxed at the 159.99, taking the price (in ontario) to ~$185, then take the $75 off and you pay $110. So, if you back the taxes back out the 159.99 phone is dropped to a $95 phone, not $85.
I know, it’s $10 and this is still a good deal – just wanted to share (from my experience when I bought my S2 LTE from Wireless etc)

They do this for most phones. Most of the phones in my family are from Wireless, Etc. and they’ve always given out cash cards… for upgrades AND new activations!
