WIND Mobile flipped the switch on Cambridge, ON and Abbotsford, BC yesterday and have also updated their coverage map to include London, Ontario. An official kick off of the service will be on Tuesday, December 13th, 2011 at 11:00 a.m where they’ll also be giving the first 20 customers a BlackBerry Torch 9810 for free. The coverage map shows 4 stores and has the WIND Home Zone in the core of the city, plus already showing expansion plans.
From a device perspective, they recently released the HTC Amaze 4G and also hearing, currently unconfirmed, that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be coming early 2012.

Hmmm….
You must be one of those cry-babies, stay-at-parents-home-till-you-dead “molson canadians” who cannot do ANYTHING by themselves and have to be provided with welfare and etc…

Wow… really? Your logic behind liking Bell is that because Bell is buying back stock and dividend is increased, a portion of RRSP invested in them will HOPEFULLY do better? And in some unknown future that we will HOPEFULLY get better benefits from RRSP?
I’ll give you a better advice. Switch to Wind and invest the monthly fee differences in a portfolio instead. That will give you much better chance of return for you. Unless, of course, if you’re a Bell stock holder. Then you’d be just so low posting things like that.

The “core” of the city is Thames River to Adelaide, Richmond south to Horton Rd. This is far far more than the “core”. This is about 80% of the cities population. NOT bad for launch! (oh, it includes their 3 big demographics – poor people, and secondary and post-secondary students. – a great thing when launching in a uni/college town.)

benji, it is to the benefit of WIND customers in Canada. More areas our phones work in and now the people of London can enjoy the great rates the rest of us enjoy. I guess you don’t understand that. Do you put foreign cars? You do realize that the money you spend on the Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai are going to investors in other countries. How about the phone you use? Is it a blackberry because if it is not, you are again helping out a foreign company..oh oh..I hope you don’t have an xbox, wii or ps3!!!

benji, my point is, do you say the same thing about buying gas from gas stations other than Petro Canada? Buying phones other than Blackberries. The point you are trying to make is ridiculous unless you assume that all Canadians invest 100% in the big 3 and nothing else.

actually, Suncor Energy is Canadian, and has nothing to do with Sunoco in the US

In August, 2009, Petro-Canada merged with Suncor Energy, a deal in which Suncor investors received approximately 60 per cent ownership. Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX: SU, NYSE: SU) is a Canadian integrated energy company based in Calgary, Alberta. This means Petro-Canada is still Canadian, just not owned by the Canadian government.

I’m very interested to hear how the reception is inside of the Western campus – it is an absolutely notorious dead zone for the Big 3… if Wind managed to have a proper network inside there, they would immediately have everyone at Western switch over.

So now, how about we actually get around to filling in the “planned expansion” gaps in cities that have been marked as “coming soon” for more than a year? It’s the only thing stopping me from signing on, as I live literally outside the edge of the current service area.

Go to Coverage Mapper and put a checkmark next to “Advertised Coverage”. You’ll see that many future expansion area are already at least partially covered. You may have an unofficial coverage in your area already, and you don’t even know about it.

I have borrowed a friend’s Wind Nexus S to see how it would fare in my area and I was fairly impressed. I seemed to have Home reception in my house and a little farther up the street as well, but as soon as I went down half the stairs to my basement, everything cut off.
Absolutely no coverage in my basement… Is this something that will happen even if they finish the coverage expansion because of frequency limitations?
Also, I looked at that third-party online tool for Android users to map out where reception is bad, and I found that the area where I live has a lot of red marks. I can’t confirm without trying it all over again.

Just sell your home and buy a place that’s within the Wind home zone. That way you won’t have to wonder how long the wait will be.

Sunnyvale is in NS. And Bubbles and the crew are on tour in London right now as we speak… Of course thats London, UK….
My post makes no sense, but I dont care….
I’m thinking of switching to WIND…. which does make sense for unlimited data/calls/texts/etc….
