Public Mobile’s 2nd Android device has been released – the ZTE N762 can be yours on the cheap for $149 outright. The best feature apart from its 3.5-inch touchscreen display is that it’s running OS 2.3 Gingerbread. However, this will probably be the last OS the device will ever witness, so what you see is what you get. In addition, the N762 has a 2MP camera and Wi-Fi. Certainly not for everyone, but something to consider for those interested in an entry-level Android.

For the same price you can get an HTC Wildfire S or a Samsugn Galaxy Gio.

When i went to the PM store to buy this phone i thoughts it as just another fake phone wanna be but i was VERY wrong when i got hold of it was not surprised i was blown away i couldn’t believe that i bought a phone for so cheap that was not a fake but a real smartphone with an amazing plan. I tested the internet against an iphone 4G and it was the same speed i HIGHLY recommend you buy this phone TRUST ME

HAHAHAH! not funny…
Wind would be the second one to go out of business, following in the footsteps of Mobilicity, who is barely staying afloat already. Two joker companies, with debt bigger than they can pay off in 5 to 10 years!! GOOD LUCK!!!
In the meantime, PM is steadily gaining ground, expanding, offering new phones, new plans, and data options, while providing unforgettable customer service, and a pleasant communication experience! THAT’S how you become successful, and not by racking in debt, and then going under.
I’ve been saying this for over a YEAR, but you just don’t listen!! Re-read this post 8 months from now, and you’ll see how right I was all along!
GOOOOO PM!!!!

2bob: But they don’t have coverage everywhere, so the roaming works on Bell (or whoever) – how in hell it’s possible if PM phones are not compatible with anything? Sorry for my ignorance, if this was already discussed somewhere – can someone give me a link?

some pm phones do have the pcs band for Bellus or US (sprint) roaming, but not all, the first few devices weren’t available for roaming

on picture and demo at stores the phone looks terrible but when yu have the actual phone, it looks like a HTC or motorola … even maybe a samsung. amazing phone with unlimited 3g and its really fast. I was on 3g with 2 bars only nd it was extremely fast. !!!!

I went with Wind for $29 plan. Gotta admit,
I REGRET BEING WITH THIS CRAPPY COMPANY.
I went from PM to Wind because of the phone but yea, what a garbage network they have. Is Wind sure they have GTA coverage? LOL It sucks being with a garbage service than being with garbage phone. TRUST ME

“Just go with wind mobile, much cheaper plans and the phone isn’t locked.”
Cheaper plans? Have you even reviewed PM’s plans? The “unlocking” of a phone benifits a limited amount of people, really. If you absolutely need an unlocked GSM phone go to Pacific Mall and grab one for $30. Even if your a Wind Mobile fanboy, be a bit happy there is at least competition that makes competitors change their price plans/promtions around.

Don’t forget – in QC there is no Wind\Mobi, so the only real option is PM, I had enough of big boys. Now, where do I read some real reviews about PM phones and 3G services in Montreal, it fun to read comments here, but you ppl have too much free time

motions, mobilicity has for $25/month for LIFE what publicmobile is offering for $45/month ($30/month for first 6 months).
so publicmobile isn’t cheapest in any way.

I got the ZTE N762. The phone and Public Mobile’s service has FAR surpassed my expectations.
I consistently get 1.4Mbps up and down speeds downtown (Montreal) and in Pointe-Claire.
The phone has an awful camera, but that’s where my complaints end. Everything else far surpassed my expectations. The touch screen is better than I thought. The processor is much better than expected. I can play some pretty graphic-rich games, youtube is absolutely lag and skip free and I can even play (with the free MX Player app) movies and tv shows (copied from my computer where I torrent them. I can also torrent on the phone with WiFi with the atorrent app).
There is some small wait times when you return to the home screen and such -this isn’t an iphone- but it’s still very useable. I’m used to iPhone 4, but I was sick of paying too much. I switched to this Android and I’m very happy.
The Public Mobile network in Montreal sucked for a while, but as expected, they built it up and it is as good as anyone’s now.
Get this phone before PM gets bought the way Fido was bought to shut down the original cityFido plans.

i heard they install wifi apps that auto connect to any open wifi networks to save publicmobile’s network bandwidth… is that true? if so, it’s dangerous for your security (rogue wifi spots, etc.)

Got one today for my teen in Montreal (no other options here like Wind/Mobilicity) – 50% off full price (boxing day sale right now) = $100, 8gb SD = $11, case = $7.50, first month free, 6 months unlimited everything @ $35/month no contract. Also picked up a cheap 2g phone for $35, $15/month unlimited calls for an emergency phone (they threw in a month of $35 plan free).
He was impressed with the features (compared to his iPod Touch and using his sister’s iPhone). Now he can do nearly everything his sister does with that Fido iPhone (cost $150 on a 3yr contract, $150/month couples voice/data plan).
I looked at Virgin, Rogers, Fido, Koodo, Videotron – the nearest you can get is twice the price and always has something missing from the bundle (try getting unlimited data!) and the phones are outrageously priced – even zero price on their “tab” leaves you with an ECF of $100′s and a net cost of $1,000′s. I calculated the Rogers free Samsung Galaxy tab offer would cost me $1,800 over 3 years to activate two of their smartphones with a similar plan….
Even if this phone breaks it won’t be as bad as the same happening to a smartphone from any of the big guys.
BTW, the customer service rep was very helpful and explained everything very well.
Happy holidays

Had public mobile for over a year now. First phone was a slide phone and back then they barely had a signal but the price was right.. They have grown so much in the last year. I recently picked up their ZTE762. For $30/month for first 6 months and $45 after. phone cost me $100 and im online surfing as fast or faster than I was with a blackberry bold costing twice as much.. Also, with my previous phone I went to kiosk and inquired about warranty after 10 months of service. (my B button was sticking) they replaced the phone on the spot with no questions.. And dropped my rate $5 a month without requesting about ten months back.. Your not going to get this service anywhere else… I have been tryin. PM rocks in my opinion.. A VERY HAPPY CUSTOMER!!

Has anyone done any extensive comparisons between the ZTE762 and the “Max”? I’m looking to switch from the wannabe blackberry phone I got from them 6 months ago and not sure what ones better. The difference in cameras doesn’t mean much as I have a point and shoot already as well as my Blackberry Playbook. I’m more concerned with performance and if it’s possible to root either of them to use as a mobile wireless connection for my playbook

i have one of these and i injoy the phone alot! public isn’t the worst company and im extremly glad its expanding its horizons… what i think is that the plan is cheap enough for me to pay it on time while injoying my bounty full previliges ( swry for the bad grammar) but what i really need now is a case or something to cover it to keep it safe because it at least needs care ( and no fatal dropage)so anyone willing to help me find a skin ( perferably silicone) case?
thx

If you have the ZTE 762 , go on eBay look for ZTE762 or ZTE 760 , its the same phone you will fine cases in silicone for the Max the only place i saw silicone cases was in a local PM store in Ville St-Pierre i have been to other stores but never saw those cases in Montreal anyway.
