Bell now offering free long distance to new customers in the East Coast, reserved for those who port in from TELUS

TELUS extended a promo to customers on the east coast of Canada with free long distance calling, they had to sign up on the a 3-year on either the $60 and $70 voice and data plans. This was also exclusive to those who only ported in from Bell. Well, not surprisingly, Bell has responded by offering “Unlimited Long Distance “for “a limited time promotion to customers porting their number from TELUS”. Of course this is only for new customers who sign up on a 3-year contract, specifically on the $60+ Fab 10 plans.

(Thanks tipsters!)

  3. OK. This is another area that should be banned. We should not required to sign any contracts to be on plan.

If a customer only wants a plan and they have their own phone bought outright and unlocked, they should have the freedom to join to leave a plan any time they want and they should not be require to renew a 3 year term.

No point of joining a plan with any terms if I don’t need a subsidy.

    • Same with Rogers and their 3-year contracts for 6GB/$30.

However, some exceptions are more acceptable, like signing 1-year for a promo device and/or plan. It’s just a matter of using common sense. 3 years for only a plan is silly. :P

    • Not necessarily disagreeing, but if I would guess Telus’ response would be that you should go to Koodo if you don’t want a subsidized phone.

  4. Why would anyone fall for this? This is the most ridiculous, convoluted and childish thing I have been from Telus/Bell in a long time.

Switch to Koodo. Everyone gets long distance included and it doesn’t matter what colour your skin is!

    • What’s the point of flanker brands? Sure, they offer discounts, but shouldn’t the “big” brands offer the same low prices? It can fool some people i know, who think that the flankers have a less reliable network than the Big 3. It’s deception. Hopefully the Small 3 grow to be strong.

    • Are you trying to be dumb on purpose? You can’t get that plan unless you SIGN a 3-year contract.

  6. Oh but you can get the fab 10 for 50 instead of 60 when you come with your phone and without a contract cause the contracts are on the phones now. So no, I simply know my stuff more than you sorry

  8. @beso

    Network coverage? Better handsets?

Wind or Mobi don’t offer service where I live (Cochrane Alberta, 30 minutes north west of Calgary), and Fido’s collection of handsets is disappointing at best, unless I want an iPhone. Not to mention Rogers/Fido coverage is spotty at best in the area.

  9. Who cares? Bell’s and Telus’ plans are still overpriced, with or without LD.

  10. @Bade = Overpriced? Bell and Telus offer the same plan as Rogers for 2.75$ less and compared to the small ones like Fido/Virgin/Koodoo (and I am not even comparing with Wind)they offer for the same price but with better phones. For example…if you want to have 200 minutes with Fido, you need to take the plan and 25$..you get incoming calls and free texting too. Add 500Mo to that ( 30+25 = 55$) you get 200 min + free texting + Incoming calls + nights and weekends at 5pm)+ 500Mo with a very ordanary coverage and not the best phones.

Bell for 50$ = 200 min + Free texting + photos and videos + nights and weekends at 6pm + 500 Mo with a very good coverage and some of the best phones.
Same thing for Telus. And I am not talking about the FAB10 promos from Bell and Telus.

Its the exact same network and coverage (MCC 302 MNC 880) and plans basically.

  13. For the phones I guess! Other than that it’s pretty much the same thing even plan wise!
