Update: Bell Galaxy Nexus “Twitter Line-up” now on…

It’s widely known that Bell and Virgin Mobile will unleash the Galaxy Nexus on December 8th – now just over a week away. In the meantime Bell has come up with way to keep the momentum high, a “Twitter Line-up” will start tomorrow at 10:00am that will guarantee the shipping of 100 Galaxy Nexus’ on launch day to 100 different customers.

Bell stated in an email to us that those who want to participate have to “log-in between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. on December 1 and sign-up to get a pre-populated Tweet and secure place in the virtual line. Places 1 to 100 need to return to the page once every hour before 10 p.m. and send out the latest tweet. When completed successfully, Bell will get in touch on shipping and other arrangements”.

The Galaxy Nexus will be $159.95 on a 3-year and rises upward to $649.95 no-term.

  4. So…i want your input. I was able to get my local bell dealer to agree to sell me a galaxy nexus outright (telus client here…). But they want to charge me a surplus fee of $20 since I’m not “activating it in store.” So would you guys do this?

I don’t plan on signing a contract (would rather use the freedom of any phone and negotiate free things for my monthly plan)..so should i go for paying the extra $20 to get the galaxy nexus now or wait until telus has it and buy it outright from them?

    let me know….thanks!

(expensive month….already pre-order the transformer prime…such a good month for android)

    • depending on how badly you need a phone: Real bad, get from bell now. Moderately bad, wait for Telus. Don’t actually need one, just want one, wait till a phone with ICS and better specs comes out next march.

  6. Even though I have the day off tomorrow and nothing to do, I’m too lazy to play the game… and talk about time-consuming… having to retweet every hour for 12 hours. My attention span doesn’t go past 2 hours.

  8. Spend a day working for Bell’s marketing department, and they might grant you the privilege of purchasing a phone and a contact from them? Thanks Bell!

Why on earth would anyone do this?

  13. At the very least Bell should be giving them away…haven’t heard of such a “contest” before. On the other hand i guess its no worse than the iboys standing in line for 12+ hours either. :-)

  14. OMG IN 12 hrs, I can’t wait to sign a 3 year contract and pay $70 a month for a smartphone plan that still doesn’t include call id/vm.

Funny thing is, get the phone from AT&T with a 2 year contract on the $60 plan where u have unlimited roaming in canada. Still cheaper this way and it includes call id/vm

  16. Ok i got an other option. For those who are not renewing their contrat or are simply with an other carrier, why would you pay 650$ plus taxes which is about 740$ when you can buy it online. I saw the clove.co.uk actually sell it and ship for about 710$ with Dhl 3 days shipping. Their nexus is unlock and without contract like Bell do..

    Thats my 2 cents

  17. Accordine to their website http://www.galaxynexus.bell.ca you actually get the phone a few days before it is in stores by waiting in the lineup. If you’re actually going to buy the phone, it’s a pretty cool idea.

  18. “Que se passe-t-il si, à la fin de la file d’attente de 12 heures, je figure parmi les 100 premiers ?”

“Vous aurez la chance d’acheter le Galaxy Nexus de Bell avant tout le monde au Canada, et votre nouveau téléphone vous sera expédié à domicile sans frais.”

    FAIL.

  20. Hey Bell, if you want to f**k us up the a** for 12 hours, at least buy us dinner first. You make us go through this ridiculous tweeting contest and in the end it’s for hardware upgrade/ new 3 year term contracts only? Give us a f**king break.

I hope you waste all your money buying exclusives while STILL losing market shares to Telus & Rogers.

    • On the site, it says: “You must buy your Galaxy Nexus on a 3-year term.” There’s no other option, and i’m not sure if this applies to the “free” Galaxy Nexus. If it does, then that’s basically up to $200 of “savings”, yet the Bell contract will run $50/month or almost $2000 total.

  24. Well I started at 222nd (figured I might as well try), first hour I jumped to 175 and figure theres still a shot. If not, I’ll just try to get it in store (the two stores nearest me figure they’ll have an adequate supply for launch since they aren’t doing in-store preorders)

  25. I am not too worried about not getting one before hand. I am sure the store nearby will have decent stock as well, plus I won’t have time to buy it until the weekend as I work during the weekdays ugh. Or maybe I can pick it up during the evening. Who knows.

  27. Why is everyone waiting at Bell for the release of the phone?

The phone is already release in Uk and as I said if your not renewing your contract you CANNOT buy the Galaxy Nexus even if you want to pay the full price they wont sell you the phone.

If you buy the cell from Bell you must take a 1 month contract that cancel it and the fees are about: 25$ activation + 30$ for the month contract + the cancellation fees.

I hihgly recommend to buy it directly from a supplyer.. Here’s a list of store who sell the phone without contract:

  29. I ended up at 115th when I tweeted the final tweet, and luckily got a call from Bell earlier today. Offered me the phone, shipped for delivery on Wednesday, with $50 off, activation waived, first month free and some other bonuses as I will be porting from Telus. So virtually free.

  30. I finished number 67 and they still haven’t called me yet. I have to imagine that they called new customers first. One would think that a virtual line would still take customers in the order in which they entered the queue.

  35. Same as someone above.

I finished 12th in line, received a call Friday the 2nd at like 2:30PM? I was working nights and was sleeping then.

Setup the phone, decided to take the contract. They told me Monday or Tuesday at the latest. I am like cool, 2.5 days early is cool with me.

    Monday – No phone
    Tuesday – No Phone
Wednesday – No phone (called rep at 4PM, they suggested calling supr next day)
Thursday – No phone by 2PM, called rep.

They said I had a memo attached on my order that said 3-5 business days of shipping. Which means this thing might not have left until Monday.

Basically gave up and told them if my phone isn’t here by the time I wake up I am going to buy a phone at Futureshop. Buying it out right and i’m leaving bell after my contract is up.
