Virgin to launch the Samsung Galaxy 551 in white for $179.99 outright

Virgin kicked off today by announcing the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be coming “early December”, plus launched the HTC Wildfire S in black. Now, the Samsung Galaxy 551 in white has started to arrive in stores and will officially be available later this week. The price is expected to be $179.99 outright for this entry level Android. Specs wise – 3.2 inch display (240 x 400 resolution), full slide out QWERTY keyboard, 3 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and can create a Wi-Fi hotspot. Certainly an attractive price for the basic device, but I’d find it tough to turn away from the Galaxy Nexus.

  1. You can get the same phone in grab and go boxes for 98.83 bucks at Wal-Mart, and has gone as low as $68 at Future Shop.

    179.99 attractive? Hardly.

    • good phone if you like QWERTY on 3.2 inch screen, but $100 too expensive! Wal Mart/ Zellers has it for less $80-$90 on regular basis. samsung Gio if on sale or Optimus one are a better deal and can be upgraded easily. This one isn’t.

    • To Mobilesyrup: what’s up with quoting the outright price only on cheap phones and quoting the 3yr contract on flagship phones? could we get some uniformity and read:
      BB9900 for $600 and the Galaxy 551 for $179?
      That will really allow you to compare real dollars, and give you a sense of the real PRICE of the phones. Thanks, love the site is evolving in a good way.

  2. ToniCipriani, the phone you’re talking about is the Galaxy 550, not the 551..The 551 at futureshop is 149.99 on Prepaid, Im sure Virgin will have it for around that price on prepaid aswell.

  6. I actually dont mind the design of this…(the black version) however, it is way over priced, shouldn’t be more than $50-60 tops…
