Virgin is getting really to really unload new plans tomorrow, actually you can call this a plethora of new plans because what’s listed below is their upcoming Holiday promos. Everything goes into effect November 9th and here are some highlights (all plans are open to all phones):
- Prepaid:
The only thing really new is that Virgin is now giving 100MB data instead of the 50MB they used to, price is $10/month and keeps up with the other carriers.
- Postpaid:
1: Unlimited Canadian long distance offer now permanent for talk and text plans
2: You can now put up to $200 on the SuperTab for talk and text plans (no longer $350)
3: You can now put up to $500 on the SuperTab for smartphones plans
4: The $15 plan has been removed.
5: Unlimited text plans starts at $20 instead of $25, includes unlimited text and 50 minutes across Canada
6: $35 plan now includes 200 minutes instead of 150, unlimited text, unlimited evenings and weekends at 5pm and 5 nationwide buddies. (Call display and unlimited incoming calls removed)
7: New flexi-data plan is available for all plans. This is called “Commitment Free Data” and is the following (not available on BlackBerry smartphones):
- 0MB up to 5MB is $5/month
- up to 100MB is $10/month
- up to 200MB is $15/month
- up to 300MB is $20/month
- up to 500MB is $25/month
- up to 1GB is $30/month
8: 2GB for $25/month is now available
9: New option: Voicemail, Call Display, Voicemail to text, unlimited BBM for $10/month
10: Top 5 buddies Canada-wide now $10/month
(Thanks tipster!)

Did they just take a Koodo brochure and modify a bit, and still not as good.

They basically stole the OLD Koodo Data Saver! :@

The only difference is that the “Commitment-free Data” is now automatically added to all plans. It’s not even an option, really. 0 MB is $0, but big charges for “accidental” use.

This is what they call a good deal… really they need to at least include caller id and voicemail as basic features in plans

Virgin mobile is getting better just quite not their yet. The $50 plan should at least include caller id and voicemail. Still way to high up at $85 for Canada wide talk no ld fees for out of zone, and unl text, cid,vm 2 gb data. I would pay $60-65 for this plan and that will be pretty sweet.

Okay, WHY are they getting rid of their $15 plan?

Oops, forgot to click “Cancel reply”. Sorry! Anyway, yeah, it’s sad how every carrier is basically copying the other. Virgin was once unique. Now it’s basically a clone of Koodo.

Epic FAIL!!! Their current $35 is much better. People from other parts of the world really cannot imagine how can a cell phone carrier charge bill for incoming minutes. And here we are still paying for that. Sigh…
As Wind mobile is also started to give us a feeling of big 3 with their promo ridiculous 12 months plan and $30 fee for change plan fee, I guess everyone started thinking that the competition is getting over!!!

How ironic – just last week I was commenting in the Koodo HoFo forum that it was a real shame that Koodo axed its $35 unlimited incoming, CID, etc plan; and that it was odd that it would go without having something that matched Virgin’s version.
Now the only question is “which came first, the chicken or the egg?” Did Virgin axe its plan because it no longer had to match Koodo’s, or did Koodo axe its plan with the knowledge that Virgin would later follow suit?

It looks like they copy and pasted the Koodo plans after they looked at how bad they’re getting annihilated by Koodo in sales.

How’s does the 500$ off work on the voice and data work when using the super tab?

Why remove the $15 plan? It was a nice fit for prepaid customers looking for a dirt-cheap postpaid plan.

I see “New City Unlimited 35″ at the very bottom of the second-last screenshot, but it’s cut off. I wonder if this will be the same as “City Koodo Unlimited”?

It’s exactly the same as their existing city unlimited. That is: unlimited local calling, unlimited international text messaging, no zone restrictions (meaning you can still make local calls for free outside your “city zone”, ie you have a vancouver number but are in edmonton calling edmonton). Still $15 more to make it unlimited national calling. Only available in select cities (wherever new entrants pop up, of course)

Virgin Mobile are a shell of their former selves and the only reason why they have more subs than pre-Bell ownership is because Bell is pushing the Virgin brand hard. Especially on MTV Canada (owned by Bell Media), trying to get at that Jersey Shore demographic. That’s all Virgin Mobile is. A lifestyle company. They really add nothing to the Canadian telecom industry beyond edgy “MTV demographic” marketing, naughty nurses and Katy Perry. When they copy-cat Koodo’s plans, they don’t even go all the way to properly match them. And there’s no point in getting a Bell “superphone” like the Samsung Galaxy S II with Virgin when you can get a similar plan or better for the high-end phones from Bell. You can’t use the Canada-wide plans with the “superphones”. Only mid-range smartphones and featurephones. I have a friend who got a iPhone 4 on the SuperTab with Virgin. The worst possible mistake you can do. The SuperTab is awful. You’d need a $138.88/month average monthly bill to pay the phone off in 3 years ($5000 over 3 years at 10% going to the SuperTab).
I liked Virgin Mobile Canada back in the days when Virgin Group owned a majority stake in the company. They were strictly focused on “no catch”, no-contract prepaid (though Virgin offered post-paid a year before Bell bought them out and maybe contracts too. Going against the “no catch” philosophy that founded the company). Their pay-per-use prepaid was competitive at one point until they nerfed their $15 top-up expiry to 45 days (it used to be 120. Now it’s 30. lol). And they had good prepaid monthly plans (for that era). With Bell putting Solo out of their misery (The Source no longer carries Solo so it’s safe to say that Bell is pulling the plug soon), hopefully they do something interesting with Virgin Mobile.

I really liked their $80 dollar Unlimited everything plan with 2 Gb of Data but I see that is gone now. Guess I may not be switching when I come up for renewal with Rogers.
The Super tab bill for a iPhone you would have to have a monthly bill of a $160 to pay it off in 3 years. If you were to do the Samsung GS2. Monthly bill would have to be $138 to pay it off in 3 years. Doesn’t make much sense on the higher end phones.

Not sure why people are complaining about…yeah they got rid of things like their 35 incoming plan, but they had slacked alot during last quarter with their offers, which made koodo cheaper. Now they are cheaper on a lot of things and better plans, like 25 for 2GB (way better than 25 for 500mb) and we all know things will get cheaper as christmas approaches.

If you aren’t aware of the actual plan don’t comment on it. Koodo has 2GB for 25 as well, had it for a LONG time.

Virgin is better than koodo simply cause they have better phones. Koodo started the whole discount brand thing. Looks like I just saved at least five buck a month

Virgin is missing the point…you can’t simply copy what Koodo does and automatically expect customers to flock on over, you gotta offer something more attractive. Hopefully Koodo follows up by getting better smartphones…or offering even better plans

President’s Choice has a good plan if you only call locally…
Check it out…
http://www.pctelecom.ca/LCLOnline/rateplans_features.jsp#plans
Their $45 plan includes 250MB of data and free VM/CID and unlimited text.
If it started at 5pm I’d jump to them in heartbeat…
oh yeah, and by the way, shame on Virgin. Offer call display at least and now you get ppl thinking.

I use virgin mobile. I wanted the S2 back in the summer, so it was between them and bell. Virgin Mobile was alot easier to talk into giving me free call display/voicemail. So basically I’m on the $55 plan (which I think is now $60) with free call display/voicemail. I’m not complaining.
2gb’s would be better then 1gb though… the screenshot above cuts off the new $60 plan. Is it now going to come with 2gb data? I wonder if that would go retroactive to people already on that plan?

I talked to a rep yesterday and they didn’t inform me that the changes were happening today. I call up *611 to change my plan and my wifes plan around to see this…. Was going to change her to the $15 plan, then change mine to the the 20 talk & text with the $15 bundle, 100mb, unlimited local after 5pm, Vm 10 & Call Display.
Not a happy camper right now…

Not the reps fault. They don’t tell us until a couple hours before close and usually it’s not even until the next day that most people see it so we have no idea.

For everyone’s information, I tried changing my 500Mb for a 2Gb data add-on, but they told me it’s not compatible with my current Talk & Text 35 (with unlimited incoming). Guess I’m going to have to call them up again tomorrow and rattle the cage a bit. Nowhere does it state that the add-on is only compatible with current Talk & Text. I think that would fall under false advertisement. Not impressed. Good thing it’s only 225$ to break my contract. I’m going to deal with retention directly tomorrow. =)

did it work out?? i have the same setup as yours… the old talk and text with 500 megs data… went to a local store here, and i can see that they dont have that option at all for the old plans!!! seems like unless you switch you cannot get that 2gb addon!!!
never knew virgin mobile sucked so much..

Virgin Mobile is really bad company, When I sign contract
we have family plan, under same bill have feature for phone
unlimited each other ,Right now they treat us like one way bundle.
due to $15 plan cvanceled by Virgin,But contract is contract.Every month when $15plan phone specific member will
charge as local call after 50minute,Although I got some credit back in July and August,But they still use no-bundle
measuring data,so this month my monthly bill jump to $240.
They stick on we could not have bundle plan,But from original cliemt record we have bundle plan ,They do not
dare print to us after we require document, If client hard
to find copy of document,we have right ask for another file.
Any client have bundle plan ,please do not have trip to $20.
