RIM has made Vlingo free on your BlackBerry smartphone. This app usually costs $19.99 but it’s free for a “limited time” – compliments of the recent service outage. Vlingo is a Virtual Assistant, it existed before Apple’s Siri, and allows you to speak to Vlingo and text contacts, search for restaurants etc… useful app and you can score it here from the BlackBerry App World.
Just downloaded works great. Thanks RIM.

Hilarious. Vlingo’s been free in Apple’s App Store for ages.
Count that towards your $100 Blackberry appreciation credit folks. $80 left. Next up, Pizza Pizza and Canadian Tire apps at no charge – a $9.99 value.
Thanks for shopping with RIM. Please come again.

The free version on App Store and Android are the basic version which is free on BB as well. This is the premium version of the application.

Nope. Just one version in the App Store and its free. Does everything RIM’s gift does.

I downloaded it and did all the setup, but the app doesn’t work properly.

iPhone vlingo: “Try Vlingo for Free Today! Purchase Voice SMS or Email for $6.99″
So, not free. Not entirely anyways.
It’s free for WP7 and Android, but I am not sure whether or not it has full functionality.

Just a tip, you cannot use this unless you have a data plan (it doesn’t run over wi-fi)

You can’t access App World without a data plan, so that’s kind of a moot point.

Yet again none of this appears in the App Word for me, still only 3 apps appear free, nothing worth while. Is this some US only thing? Or am I just supposed to buy these and then get credited for it later?
