The Nokia 500 and its Symbian Anna OS has landed at WIND Mobile. If you want this it’ll cost $179 outright or $29 on the WindTab. 3.2-inch touchscreen display, 1Ghz processor, 5 megapixel camera and comes loaded with Nokia Maps for the times you get lost and need directions.

Looks like Nokia is doing the right thing with Symbian and that is to make decent phones really cheap for consumers to get their name back in the minds of people.
And when their high end phones start to come out with WP7 they will have built up a larger base of potential customers.

Yes- but if you use it on wind for 3 months they will give you the unlock code for free

Definitely a step up from the Nokia 5230.
Wonder how responsive the screen is?
Looks like a good phone for someone who wants a smart phone but need/worry about apps, branding and all the extra stuff that comes with the iOS, Android, BB and WP7 platforms.

At least the screen is capacitive this time around, and reasonably dense at 229ppi. And you can bet reception will be great, as always with Nokia. Not a horrible phone.

The real mistake was not staying with Symbian and using Meego as well.

The AWS carriers in Canada need to take advantage of the new Nokia WP7 offerings, including the Lumias. The Pentaband capability allows them to field a more competitive options to the big 3.

Isn’t this the same phone/price as Mobilicity? Confirmed pentaband makes it worthwhile.
Don’t expect too much for what u are paying, lower your expectations and this is a decent phone and price.

The Nokia 500 is selling for $169.99 at Mobilicity, so it’s cheaper than WIND’s version. I do agree that this phone is pretty good especially the pentaband. However, I will never trade my Nexus S for this phone. I rather have my 1 GHz Samsung Exynos 3110 Cortex A8 SoC with Android 2.3.6 over this 1 GHz ARM11-based SoC w/ Symbian Anna/Belle.
Great upgrade for those still stuck on the Nokia 5230 for sure though.

I wouldn’t trade a nexus for it either. That said, This isn’t intended to be a competitor to the nexus. This is essentially a poor mans smart phone. It’s a very good poor man’s smartphone, but you’re comparing stats in ways they shouldn’t be compared.

Why don’t you tell us how how you wouldn’t trade in your 5-Series BMW for a Toyota Yaris? Oh ya, you wouldn’t, because it’s obvious.
It’s two different levels of competition.

@deltatux. I have the 5230 from Mobilicity though and you’re right, the Nokia 500 would make a good upgrade from the 5230.
Ideally though, I would have hoped that either the Nokia 603 or 700 would have come to our shores. I would have enjoyed having the slim 700 in my hands LOL
