The upcoming BBX “superphones” from Research In Motion are going to very exciting – ones that we hope will truly bring the company back into a leadership position. A couple concept videos have surfaced online that are reminiscent to Micorsoft’s “Office 2019” futuristic video. RIM has labeled these as the “BlackBerry Enterprising Minds” and gives their take on what the next few years might look like: lots of touchscreens, heavy on security with your phone becoming your personal access pass, and overall simple to use. The design of the BlackBerry devices (smartphones and tablets) seems to be a bit thick, but the way people will mainly communicate is through video calling. Check them out below.

I am going to make a fake bs video like this and showcase the future of time travel. Same premise – nothing in these videos exists, and neither does time travel.
The last (real) update from RIM was raised buttons on a 9790 lol, not exactly innovation.

Great fake vid, but the playbook STILL has no native email, contacts, calendar, task list, android apps, and RIM still has no answer to Android and iOS.
Instead of making fairytale videos, put the money towards making good products and getting them out on time. Perhaps Lizardis and Sillie are completely delusional now.

ikr. They make those conceptual videos but if they want to get that far, which i hope they do, they should really figure out what they’re doing wrong in comparison to those doing well in the market and come up with a solution. because right now, lets admit it, could use more work.

Actually the typing on the desk thing, if that’s what I believe you’re referring to, has existed for the past six or seven years so it’s actually not sci-fi that they are presenting in these vids, it’s just a matter of if and when they are actually going to do it.

So many touch screens come with a lot of cleaning of fingerprint smudges.

Here is an idea. Stop wasting time and money making fake videos, and spend your resources making a decent product and getting it out on time.

Impressive concepts, but thing is…do we really need to do everything through our phones? Stuff like this is going to ruin human interaction

I would like to make 3 comments on RIM’s Vision:
- The interface (minus that ugly white homescreen) looked good in the videos.
- RIM is still not aiming high enough. It’s the future yet devices are bulky??
- I like the whole business integration between each device and management. This is a great solution that is closer to the present than the future. They just need to work on it!

RIM invented the smartphone and owned that market for a long time. Then they lost focus. I truly hope they can turn things around. But lately they have consistently overpromised and underdelivered. Instead of expending their energy on a vision 5 – 10 years down the road, they need to focus on their immediate problems and get back in the game.

If they are actually working on half of this stuff, then this is why RIM will stay relevant in the business world. At least so long as they remembered to patent it all before showing their vision to everyone.

Calls will most be done with video calling? not likely for some time yet i’d think, if anything i see a bigger drop of actual talking in general and moving it more towards a text based way instead…..video calling just as voice assistance is a fad.
Also BB’s next OS is pretty much sounding like it either kill them or keep them around at this point…no pressure eh BB?

I find it amusing that their UI looks like the Metro theme already found on a Windows Phone. Perhaps their future consists of them being purchased by Microsoft.

I think we all need to keep faith in our great canadian company. They have been very oriented on businesses lately but they are slowly coming back to please you all I’m sure.
There’s 99% of the apps that we don’t use anyway (who cares about fart machines?). So why bother? It’s Flash compatible so it’s got it all, plus html5, so who cares about the rest, if the product’s basics are good it’s good.
It’s just that right now they’ve been lacking on the “good”.

To those who all think this video was a waste, every business develops these types of videos based on the business they are in to show off concepts and ideas. It doesn’t cost that much to make, and if you and your business decide not to make one, you won’t have a business because someone else will make that video and generate interest for their own company.

Is RIM/BlackBerry unaware that their customer base absolutely loves their QWERTY keyboards? How have they missed this massive detail?

I don’t know if it’s just me. But the UI in these concept videos looks very similar to Windows 7/8? (I like Windows 7/8′s UI too)

Why will you need to call up a paid worker to remotely wipe your phone? You should be able to do this yourself.
Also, vertical touch screens on desks are super unergonomic, I felt pain in my arms just watching the guy.
Also, RIM’s remaining competitive advantage (BB hardware keyboards) isn’t part of this future?

RIM says: Guys I hope you enjoyed the cool video. We actually used all our resources to make it. Even our server computers were used for the editing and the compositing of the special effects that you saw, hence the recent outage of our services Worldwide. We believe this video will be enough to save us. Please buy the Playbook

Since you can bring any phone to use their future BIS service it seems that RIM will be exiting the phone market?

yeah, RIM is right- they can just dream about the future.

Most of this is not far off, RIM has already announced or has the software to do it. Now they just have to bring it all together .
RIM Announced;
Use Blackberry as Security ID’s is now (Nobody has this yet)
Use MasterCard payment services is now (Android has it, but it’s not mastercard)
Remote Management BIS/BES… need I say more (Although Apple / Android sort have it, but not as robust)
Video chat, it’s on the playbook so it’s coming to Blackberry phones (Everybody has this now)
Security – none of this is possible with having a secured device and RIM is the only phone not rooted. (Apple, Android, and Microsoft are all rooted) That leaves big security hole, and no, remote wipe only work if the device is online.
Now they need to tie it all together in nice clean and easy interface, hopefully TAT will have big part in that.
RIM’s biggest issues is execution. Something that Apple has mastered and other Chinese and Korean companies due much better. Even Microsoft is executing better then RIM right now.

Since RIMs not interested in sharing the video then this post should be removed completely. No point in dead end publicity.
