The massive hype with the new Nokia Windows Phone devices, the Lumia 800 and the Lumia710, was well worth the wait. The build quality alone is impressive on the Lumia 800 – both of these devices, plus possibly others, are expected to come to Canada “early 2012″. If you don’t want to wait a few more months, or until they pop up on eBay, you can always test your luck at becoming a Windows Phone developer. Nokia has decided to giveaway 25,000 Lumia 800 devices to their developer – certainly a thoughtful gesture and will keep people talking about the device. Marco Argenti, SVP of Developer and Marketplace at Nokia stated that “Nokia Lumia 800 is a beautiful thing. Developers will be inspired to create beautiful apps; the opportunity is here, now”.

Quickly checking the app stats for the Windows Phone Marketplace has the total number of available apps sitting at about 35,000. With the Nokia partnership a sudden surge will happen, but still take a while to reach the level of both the Apple App Store and Google’s Android Market.

I would move from BB to WP7 developing if they gave me a free phone.

  • Drodro

I’m interested in developing apps. So if I sign up as a developer, how do I enter to get a free phone?

  • Hooray

    First, pay the 99$ fees.
    Second, do something nice.
    Three, start drinking coffee.
    Finally, you’ll have it.
