Update: Bell & Virgin giving new subscribers first month of service free

Anytime you can save a bit of money is a good thing, right? Especially if you’re locking in for the long haul of 3-years. Virgin is now offering their new “Members”, aka subscribers, one month free service. You’ll only be able to score this if you sign up on a $40 Smartphone combo plan or higher, plus this can also be combined with the recent Waived Activation fee. This deal is on until October 31st and can be used with any Android, BlackBerry or any other smartphone (iPhone included).

Update: Bell is offering a similar promo, details below

(Thanks tipsters!)

  1. Similar to what PC Mobile and Vidéotron are doing since a while ago.

  2. who cares about a month free…I’m not a fish that will sign up for 3 years just to get one month free, just lower your monthly plan price or make a real promotion like $25 for 10GB LTE…

  5. About that, when will Virgin and/or Solo be getting LTE offerings?

What do i think about this “one month free” promotion? It’s nothing new. Many prepaid providers offer credit which is usually equivalent to one month free. This in and of itself is barely a valid reason to choose a provider over another. Lower prices and shorter/no contracts would be preferable.

  6. Goddamn! Signed a 3-year on the 29th of September… Oh well, I got my S2 for 25$, so I guess things are alright.

  7. It’s funny how everyone jumped to the conclusion you had to sign a 3 year to get the free month, it clearly states in both, any term… meaning 30day (month to month) qualifies….

  11. This post is incorrect. First month free service is not being offered by Virgin in most of Canada. Likely Saskatchewan only as a competitive offer against Sasktel.

  12. will they charge me gst or hst on that free month?

would it be like: $50 + hst minus the $50 which leaves the original hst?

sounds like something rogers would do…

  14. I don’t get the whole riot against a free month. Sure if you sign up for 36 months, it’s not exactly a money saver… but then again if you were to sign up for 36 months anyway, it is.

Just take it as it is, not as it should be in a perfect world.

  15. Hey, this isn’t that bad, I mean, any saving money is good. Say you are thinking going to a 30-day term, your first month is on the house. Don’t like the services? Unlock the device and go elsewhere!

  17. This will NEVER happen at TELUS. They are trained to tell you they can’tt DO anything for you that the competition offers. Heads up TELUS. I switched to Bell after 17 years just to spirite you and prove a point.

  18. Mmm clearly states ‘supertab’ OR contract … so if you don’t want to go on a 3-yr u can still get the first month free, no-contract!

  19. I recently signed a contract with Bell since the Galaxy S2 was free for one day at Best Buy.

So I called Bell today because I was curious since the phone is still 145 on their website. Turns out, if I cancel the contract, I only have to pay 400$ and the phone is mine!

I rooted and unlocked the phone so that’s not an issue.

Anyways I think it’s pretty cool to get a new unlocked Galaxy S2 for 400$.

Tomorrow I will call and try to deal with them as if I wasn’t a customer yet to see what they can offer me since “Rogers offer” is already very tempting ;)
