Mobilicity BlackBerry Bold 9900 to be available at the beginning of October

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 is the next device that Mobilicity will be releasing. Their CEO, Dave Dobbin, tweeted that this will be available soon, but no date was given. We’ve been tipped that this new touchscreen/QWERTY device will make its appearance at Mobilicity stores and online at the beginning of October. The price has not been relayed on to us yet, but various Canadian carriers have priced the 9900 at $599.99 outright… so hopefully Mobi comes in a bit cheaper. In the meantime you can check out our review here.

More soon!
(Thanks tipster!)

    • That’s because Mobilicity and Public Mobile are relatively new companies, and their funding is mostly all within themselves. Wind on the other hand, is funded by one of the largest international telecom companies in the world. If Globalive (the company who operates under the brand name WIND) didn’t have the funding back-up of Orascom, they wouldn’t be nearly as big.

  3. They’re coming out as the same time as WIND (they haven’t made it official yet).

  4. Mobilicity’s rollout of towers to improve their coverage has been slower than wind. Personally I use neither since I go out of their zones, but for some reason as a consumer I just feel Wind maybe has more financial backing to expand quicker, it seems like they’re here for good. Hopefully they merge with mobilicity at some point

  5. It’s about time somebody got it on the AWS frequency! But the details here are sadly lacking, there’s nothing that can be pointed out as concrete. The only chatter I’ve seen is there’s going to be an announcement on Sept 21 and it has nothing to do with the 9900. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

  6. Finalllyyy! Woot. I just hope they still have that 40$ Unlimited Plan when it launches cus Im getting one. This will be a big boost for new entrants.

On another note, the IPhone Next might be on TMobile and it would be beast to have both these phones on these cheap carriers.

    • They won’t be so cheap if they have premium devices. Can you say rate increases and contract(in Winds case)!!!!

    • i don’t call you a troll. Sometimes i agree with you, other times i disagree.

The WIND versus Mobilicity question may seem stupid, but i’m just wondering why Mobi, or say even Public, do not have anywhere near the coverage of WIND. Montréal is a special exception, Public is there, and Vidéotron ressembles MTS or SaskTel. Mobi has unique multi-month plans instead of tab contracts. But with smaller coverage, they are missing out opportunity! Why do they have less funding? Again, may seem stupid, but i want to know why Mobi and Public are smaller.

  8. mobi is smaller cause they dont have the international funding like wind does they are truely a canadian company with their call center even being in canada (although out of the mobi zone, i believe their in niagara falls) but still canadian company all the way

    • Wind has 4 call centers…1 in Windsor (also a Yak call center), 1 in Missisauga, 1 in peterborough, and for the duration of the TSA with Orascom, one in Egypt.

also, Globalive has one large non-canadian investor (VimpleCom), while DAVE wireless had at startup more than 1 (that together hold roughly the same percentage of equity and debt as VimpleCom does in Globalive)

    • Not a slight against Mobilicity but they don’t own any of their call centres at all. They’re all subbed out to an American owned company, one of the biggest foreign owned call centre operators in North America. The mistaken belief that Wind has moved all their call centres abroad is based on nothing more than lies.

  11. I get tired of every one saying that mobilicity is Canadian, they are backed my a american company and the only canadian backer was prizam and dave who was the CEO of the company resigned before they filed for bankruptcy protection,he is the co-owner of mobilicity so now they have no Canadian money coming in and only american and public is backed by the bank of china so who really is Canadian.
So there really is no new Canadian entrant because they are all backed by foreign money so lets get real people. me i don’t care because we are getting more competition i just hate it when people say one is more Canadian then the other, because none of them are

  12. I haven’t, had one random reboot in a month. Device is actually very fast and responsive. Still get the damn clock, they should just take that out of the code.
But even with the clock no freezing, before you couldn’t download an app and do anything else.

Now you can download multiple apps and do something else as well.

  13. My 9900 hasn’t frozen once and is incredibly smoothe. Even on my 9700 I never had to pull the battery to reboot it, like I did every few days on my old Curve.

  14. My 9900 is the best cell phone currently available for my taste.
I have had zero issues with mine. Bought it day one from Telus.

  15. Mobilicity is trash. The 9900 has not been a hit with the real cellular companies. It will do nothing to improve Mobilicity’s customer base. They will be out of business soon.

    • Sorry Apollo but the phone’s sales have exceeded expectations. There are shortages all over the GTA with all carriers. T-Mobile in the US has sold out of the 9900 twice so far since launching it to the public at the end of August. Went to go and have a good look at one last weekend and 2 carriers didn’t have any units left in stock and another only had the dummy units and a single demo to take orders on. All indications are that the 9900 is a sales success.

    • I wouldn’t call them that but I agree with your final conclusion. I do not see Mobi surviving with the limited coverage they have. Even within their home area the coverage is very spotty. It’s a pity – they came quite some time ago but to be inside a city like Vancouver or Ottawa and have limited coverage (and close to no coverage inside the buildings) will hurt them big time.
