Virgin adds $10 Unlimited Canadian Long Distance add-on

Most likely in direct response to Koodo changing up their monthly plans and offering up Unlimited Canadian long distance in their $45/plan, Virgin Mobile has come to the table with a limited time promo that sees a $10 add-on that gives members Unlimited Canadian long distance. According to the internal doc this is on until September 30th and not limited to one plan, but available to all.
(Thanks tipster!)

This is better than 20 for LD and the same as CityFido but worse than Koodo which has no extra charge. In both cases minutes are limited except for unlimited plans.

@Alex How is this worse than Koodo? Both Virgin and Koodo have a $45 plan that now includes Unlimited Text and Unlimited Canada Wide Voice.
Virgin and Koodo have no other fees.
The only thing that is “worse” is Koodo’s phones and $150 tab limit.

It’s worse in the sense that with the exception of City Koodo Unlimited, all of Koodo’s current plans have no-charge long distance- even the dinky 50 minute for $15 plan.

FYI Mobilesyrup, Bell on new activations, and Hardware Upgrades has a $0/month long distance add-on right now. I’m sure the document will be posted in a day or so.

More info on the rumoured Bell LD plan please! Is this available as of today? I was about to make a decision today on whether to go with Bell, Virgin, or Koodo and this could very much sway my decision!

Has to be in store. Was just chatting with a rep, and they mentioned this. Apparently can only be added in store, from what I heard, only on new contracts, early renewals, and HUGS. Give ‘em a call at the store and they may help you out.

it says on that press release shot at the top that it’s on all phones. With this, Virgin is neck and neck with Koodo, simply because their 25$ plan doesnt have unlimited texting or the option to pick VM/CID for free. It’s a 10$ addon. At that price point for unlim texting or the VM/CID bundle, it’s just as cost effective as Koodo’s rates except Virgin has much MUCH better phone selection.

No other carrier except Koodo offers no cost roaming in their plans. Koodo’s $45 plan includes unlimited long distance and roaming. While Wind offers roaming, their small footprint is a major limitation.
