A few weeks ago at the Samsung summer rock concert there was an unannounced Mobilicity device hanging around (pictured above). The Samsung Galaxy Mini in an entry level Android that recently launched on Videotron and is also expected to be available on WIND too. We’ve been tipped that it’ll land on Mobilicity on Thursday, September 8th, but unfortunately we have no price point for you yet. Videotron is currently selling this for $229.95 outright so we’re hoping Mobilicity comes in a bit lower at $199.99.
The Galaxy Mini has a 3.14-inch touchscreen display (resolution of 240 x 320), 3 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, weighs 109 grams and runs Android OS 2.2 (possibly will launch with 2.3).
More soon!
(Thanks tipster!)

Wow. You’re the first PM user ever to say anything about anything. In fact you’re the first PM user I’ve ever encountered. It must be lonely being the only subscriber. Ask them how the sale of their business is going? You know PM is for sale, right? They are near bankruptcy and are desparate to be taken out. Everyone is laughing at them.

PM is facing bankruptcy, and are getting very desperate to sell. Do you really think they’d tell a “cell phone sales rep” any of that? That your job may be in danger? That the company is a failure?
think before you type sugarpop

Maybe tcom will show us a reference that shows that PM is for sale. Sounds like another windless employee making up facts.

Public Mobile doesn’t have as much spectrum as WIND, Mobillicity or even Vidéotron, so right now they only serve Montréal and Toronto. It seems Public doesn’t want to grow, as their device selection is very basic and their only network change is the Telus roaming option. WIND, on the other hand, has recently started service in K-W, plus they plan to add even more cities by the end of this year.
It’s possible that Public adds a CDMA Android, like the ones available at Sprint, Verizon, or even Telus. In fact, i would barely be surprised if they got the LG Optimus 3G due to their partnership with Telus. But although EVDO CDMA has faster speeds than EDGE GSM, EVDO is still much slower than HSPA+. Asking for Public to build LTE like Verizon just seems like asking for a miracle. :O
Let the competition continue.
Public needs to get up before it becomes KO.

I work for Wind Mobile and I can assure you I am a liar. I only went to the Mobilicity get together in BC for the free dinner to spy on them, also if you go on my web-site you’ll see how ugly I really am and why I focus on self importance-no one else thinks I’m important and why should they since everything I state is BS. In reality Wind Mobile is failing and I know that even Public Mobile is better, yet I have to pretend my provider is best and cover up all the problems-if you only knew what I know you would never join and go back to Rogers. As far as Mobilicity goes they are killing us and my a*s hurts from blowing so much Wind.

Fair enough, phoneguy, but right now, they currently serve less than 8 million Canadians. If they will ever cover 19 million Canadians, they will do so very, very slowly. They’re missing out on BC, Alberta, and even Northern Ontario. At least they have part of the Québec province. Let me know when they either get an Android, or they make significant changes to their coverage.

The CEO of PM already stated they built PM on the G-band frequency to easily switch to LTE…doesnt sound like a miracle to me sounds pretty easy actually.

Public Mobile can say this about LTE all they want, but they don’t even have ONE smartphone released yet. That’s not necessarily bad, if they just want customers who will talk and text for a low price. It’s just that i’ve never seen Public as a carrier for Internet, because i seriously doubt that they offer tethering. They don’t even have USB EVDO modems. LTE with Public is more of a dream than a reality.

alex keep on the look out for us then big things are coming from PM trust me on that one and ya they are slowly expanding they realize montreal and ontario are the most profitable so there strating there instead of being like wind and thinking they can take over canada over night and spreading PM to thin and opening in every market but I guess thats why wind spent $450 million more then PM in the first place. The CEO of wind has stated there projections for there 3 yr mark were supposed to be 1.5 million subs there not even 1/3 of the way there yet and approaching the 3 yr mark…Wind is in a lot of trouble…companies make up projections for a reason and that reason is bc they need to be at those prejected numbers with there given time line or else there losing money..and wind is losing money big time.

Phoneguy, you do make some valid points in that comment. From my perspective, Public Mobile is an improved version of the nearly-dead, Bell-owned Solo Mobile. Public also has some of the lowest-priced rates, but no smartphones unlike Chatr.
Mobilicity and Wind have good smartphones, but service rates are nearly identical. i’m glad to see that Public has unique pricing instead of copying the others.
Wind, Mobilicity and Public could use some lower-priced, higher-quality Androids, better and larger coverage, and for the AWS providers, unique monthly plans.

Alex..and ya in regards to CDMA and limited handsets PM is like solo the difference is there dying and were just getting started…and dont even get me started on Chatr AKA rogers those jokers opened bc of wind and public thats hilarious so I could care less what they do…and like I stated PM is just getting started and already have 250,000 subs and started with one phone now have 5 and yes more phones are coming and more high end and more data and faster speeds and well known manufactures. Just be patient rome wasnt built in a day and unlike wind PM realizes that it takes time to be big.

For once it would be nice to see people actually discuss phones in a phone post. This juvenile pissing match about which startups dying on the vine is getting old. So yes a name brand entry level android is a good thing to see coming to our new carriers. While not my cup of tea, for someone just getting their first smartphone or someone on a budget they are just as important to the smartphone ecosystem as high end devices. I got my start with android on a entry level phone and now I am a high end phone. If people get into them cheaply with little risk, they are more likely to upgrade which in the long run benefits everyone, carrier and sub alike.

It’s kind of expensive for a Galaxy Mini. We recently emptied the 3 Futureshop in Québec City of Samsung Galaxy Gio (Android 2.3.4) for 75$ each (80$ this week). The Gio is almost the same phone as the Mini (CDMA instead of GSM) if not a bit better spec-wise. With unlock and tx, you have a very decent smartphone for 95$. It won’t replace a Galaxy S2, but for 1/7 of the price, who would complain.
And plz, stop the Mobilicity, Wind, Public war. It’s VERY childish. Talk about the subject of the article or GTFO.

There is no way that this phone will sell well at this price. What are they thinking??? Entry level smartphones are not attractive with this price point.

Well “phoneguy” I’ll simply tell you this – go to the CEO “Alek”, and ask him if he’s sent letters to bell telus and rogers asking to be bought. He has sent those letters, and the three companies laughed at him. Oh and by the way, I understand PM has about 60K subscribers, mostly in quebec, and can’t really grow because the churn is so high.

Mobilicity is crap. Bad phones, bad network, stupid mascots, poor distribution channel, unreliable product and everything else you could do half assed to run a company. I am amazed they are still in business. Just a matter of time before Wind buys them.

I gotta tell you this but PM sucks and so does wind and mobi. Although I sell wind, I can tell you that their service is crappy as hell. Wind is a ball of hot gas – and thats all it is.
Maybe wind management thought of the name while farting …

Mobilicity… breaking news a donkey just fell in hole in Arizona. They should be apologizing to their dealer chain for the Wink, HTC crap and the hot iron Spice. Really they announced a BB software release ..thanks tips.

Maybe I’m in the minority, but I’m looking forward to this phone. Ever since I got my HTC Snap, I’ve been itching for an affordable ($200 or less) that runs Android.
I can only hope this is replaces the Spice, since it seems as bad as my Snap.
