Let’s put a quick poll together. In the past we’ve asked what’s your favorite OS, device, carrier… but most readers by now have settled on a particular smartphone and have already started downloading various apps. A recent survey suggested that the average Canadian has downloaded 19 apps to their smartphone.
The app business is a big business. Many companies are making millions of dollars on their app, or if you’re like Rovio, creator of Angry Birds, you’re working your way up to the billion mark. Apple has over 425,000 available apps and over 15 billion apps have been downloaded. Google’s Android Market recently crossed over the 4.5 billion download app milestone and has over 250,000 available apps. Other app stores like RIM’s BlackBerry World has over 20,000 apps and has experienced over 1 billion app downloads, while Microsoft’s Windows Phone Marketplace is close to the 30,000 app mark. Needless to say, users are downloading apps everyday.
