Once Google’s $12.5 billion deal to buy Motorola Mobility officially gets approved they will amass their 17,000 patents, plus the other 7,500 that are currently pending. The Joy of Tech has weighed in on the situation and gives a good illustration of their potential power in the near future.

@the book of Jobs
It is publicly known that Blackberry started the smartphone. Not even a discussion. You’re just a pro-Apple, blinded by marketing. Dont get me wrong, I have an iPad 2 and love it, but I’m not naive enough to think they do everything right. I think you should rethink your posts.

Wow, let’s take a book in the Bible and add an “s” at the end of it. “Job” and “Jobs” might as well be complete opposites. Not surprised that some people take it too far and treat Apple like a religion.

Not Black Berry. The IBM Simon was first in 1992, and the 1st Smartphone as we know today, was the Nokia 9000 in 1996. Blackberry was just a pager, 3 years from that point.

Contrary to your attempt at revisionist history Apple not only didn’t invent the smartphone, but they weren’t even the first company to release a fully touchscreen smartphone. You may think Apple’s products are better, but they certainly weren’t first.

‘Passage 1 from the Book of Jobs; “All iTards shall troll the internet proclaiming that we, Apple, have invented everything (even if they did invent it and patent it before us) and thus everyone stole our tech. But not our douchieness. So says the word of Jobs”

‘Potential power’? Really? If it were only that easy, just burp or fart on competitors and they disappear. Not even funny. And whoever said Apple invented the smartphone..HAHAHA..I think you need to do some research, BlackBerry buddy, BlackBerry!

This cartoon is funny. As a proud android user (sadly Canada has yet to embrace it), I have to say it is the way to go. Android allows people to enjoy their phones and not be restricted by failing platforms (RIM) and zombie induced marketing (Apple). Try android and you will be happier. Just ask all the people I converted because they have seen the device I use (HTC EVO 3D). This patent war is stupid and only hurts us the customers. Think about that when you are waiting all day for an $800 iPhone 5 that copies everything else.

If you weren’t aware about the 11 people who die (Chinese People) working at the Sweat Shop Foxconn (Produce Apple products), you are a very ignorant person and believe the BS coming out of Steve Bastard Jobs mouth!!!

B, please keep it clean. Steve Jobs makes awful choices, but there’s no need to call him names using derogatory terms.
Apple products cost too much, there’s annoying locks, and the prices almost never come down. Recently, the HP TouchPad was cleared out. The 16 GB now costs over 80% less than the comparable iPad. It’s sad that an alternative to Apple has an uncertain future, but at that price, webOS performs decently and iOS just seems very unnecessary.

I’m not a fan at all of iPhone, but this is really not a fair portrayal of Foxconn. I mean, things aren’t all daisies and lolly pops over there, but the reality is that the 11 people committing suicide at Foxconn had a lot to do with them paying too much grievance pay. The family would get 10 years worth of wages. On top of that, the 11 deaths of the 350,000 employees is actually below the national suicide rate.
Companies like Foxconn are pulling China out of poverty. Read this: http://www2.macleans.ca/2010/06/24/a-low-cost-paradise-lost/#more-133402
They certainly have their share of problems, but the suicide issue is more of a strawman argument in this case.

One of the reasons i chose to get an android over a iphone is the customization. My phone looks like MY phone. It doesn’t look like yours, or his or hers. Also the use of widgets are awesome. Not to mention android is on multiple devices. I’ll give it to apple that they make a great ipod. But when it comes to phones, i’ll stick to my droid.

Annnddddd, stop feeding the trolls.
That said, apple was the first to revolutionize the smartphone market. Their ability to market well and their incredible UX is further proof they do take the time to think of what the customer wants. That said, they appeal to most customers, not to those on the bleeding edge. Combine that with their developer support (which android is lacking due to it’s fractured nature) makes for a rather nice experience. Just because people are fanboys, doesn’t mean that apple isn’t making good products. In any event, I’ll continue to use both apple and android.

@ the book of jobs. dufuis wake up your totally controlled os has been playing catchup since that piece of crap app launcher came out. shitty phone good launcher of apps.
i’ll let you guys debate who invented the smartphone blackberry or palm but it sure wasn’t apple.
apple changed the game no question and woke up the market but please anybody with more intelligence than turning on a power button and doing what his highness jobs tells you what you can do and what you can’t do is not buying that phone. your a fad dude even the petrock lasted 2 years.
even apple knows it’s over that’s why there suing everyone and there grandma with purchased patents and messing with evidence to try and halt everyone else’s growth.
innovator for sure every phone looks like an i phone, kudos, app market brilliant, kudos again. but really people like to mess with things and customize THERE phone and i really don’t care if jobs hates the adobe guy i just want to watch videos and mess with my home page . i know control freak

Ya know what? Who cares who made the “first” smart phone? Heck, who cares who makes the “Best” smart phone. With the level of options available the only thing that matters is finding the best phone for YOU! If working in this industry has taught me anything is that every customer needs something different and their isn’t a single phone on the market that is a one size fits all.

the iphone is for stupid rich kids who call support for every little thing. android users actually can solve their problems on their own (they know how to use google), and android is available to waay more people, because its cheap (unlike the unreasonable high prices of the iphone). iphones are all the same, you cant customize it the way you can an android. my only real problem with apple is that they sell everything so expensive… and peolle still buy it, cuz they have no idea of the potential of an android device. so basically iphone users are either stupid, rich, or lazy, and have no idea of computers and programming.

lol, or we have better things to do with our lives than sit at our computers all day.
I enjoy my iPhone because everything is easy and works. I don’t have to worry about backing up anything, I don’t have to worry about my phone getting bricked and don’t need to go google things in order to do them.
I would rather be out in the world doing more productive things than sit at home and try to figure out why my phone is not working the way it should.

if you iphone lovers here think that google stole tech from apple your not only wrong, your plain stupid. and also, google made Android. not the actual phones. sooo any design in the actual phones that you think is “stolen” is not google… dont be soo naive.. iphone wasnt even the first smartphone

We know iPhone wasn’t the first smartphone but it was the first smart phone to start the Smartphone revolution.
And we know that google didn’t steal Apple tech they simply stole the complete idea, let me point you to what Android would have been if it wasn’t for the iPhone –> http://gizmodo.com/334909/google-android-prototype-in-the-wild

@SAM You are absolutely right! I first bought a Windows Mobile phone bac in 2004, i remember i was hesitating between flexibility and customisation yet laggy Windows Mobile phone and super fast and simple but not customisable Palm. Palm was First in Smartphone. Period. Apple came in 2007 with their iPhone.

I had a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant last year, i switched to HTC Sensation last month and you know what? I just typed my user Google name and password and My new sensation just downloaded, my apps, contacts and wallpaper. Over the air. No itunes sync, or something that you may call good. Evene between two competitiors (Smsung and HTC) sharing the same base platform (Android) with two differnet versions (2,2 and 2,3) and two different UI layer (touchwiz and Sense) So, i don’t care if my phone get stolen htcsense.com and wipe the phone remotely.

first off @jim are you kidding me about battery life ? my wife’s iphone can’t pass two electrical outlets in a row without needing a charge. do you ever turn your phone on? please.
@shawn we get you need a phone that just works and yours does a nice job. your phone will never be bricked because you haven’t got a clue on what to do to even attempt such a thing. it’s not for everyone but to take a shot at anyone who is willing or wants to take a shot at customizing there’s and implying there a geek or computer nerd or have no life is low.
i love my atrix but not motoblur so i keep taking it off and putting it back on because i can and want to. when gingerbread comes i’ll remove moto all together. that’s just me and my life is very productive thanks for asking i do actually get out of my mothers basement now and again.
enjoy your out of box phone and your home theater in a box and your mac in a box that just works but really there’s better stuff out there, 550,000 new activations a day, man there’s a ton of us non productive can’t get away from our computer low life’s.
