Fido has come to the table and modified their price plans, mainly to compete with Koodo’s new Canada-wide plans (see them all here). The good news is that the new Fido plans all have unlimited text, included 50 more minutes and have been graced with 5:00pm unlimited evenings and weekends.
(Thanks tipster!)
Still no Caller ID and voicemail included in those plans.

EXACTLY!!! or hwo about their $35 unlimted talk all the time pla, include voicemail and caller id? that would make me consider switching back ,otherwise stilla rip off, and prepiad rates suck now, they got rid of my 05 cents a min evenings and weekends rate which I had for 5 years even thought hey todl em I coudl keep my plan, they tried to justify charging me more and now having no similar plans, i told them why I was leaving and they did not seem to care. I left, if people want real change vote with your wallet and contat them via email with feedback as to what you want.

forgot to add, EXACTLY yet rogers gives voicemail and caller id on their plans, and both are owned by Rogers on the same network….what a rip off, I wish fido was better like “the old days” when they had good customer service, now they have to advertise for having good service, ebfore there was no need to advertise.

sorry typo, and you can’t delete your own posts here, FIDO $35 for unlimted LOCAL talk all the time + $10 for claler id and voicemail = $45 a month for local calling, yet on rogers CHATR (both same company and network and same cities….) $35 unlimted text, unlimited canada wide callign and voiemail.
one godo thing about Fido is at least you can keep (grandfather) plans whereas chatr who knows! still a rip off when they are charging less for other customers on chatr (SAME COMPANY PEOPLE!)

Still better than any plan/provider in Canada

Well Wind/Mobi do cost more as soon as you leave your home zone.
So it’s debatable. Though I’d give it to Koodo since I would say most Canadians don’t stay in the city 24/7. Roaming isn’t cool.

They don’t look that great…I’m afraid they did the same mistake as Virgin did (soon to be seen) and made up the plans and pamphlets before the newest update of plans from Koodo.
Props to Koodo so far

The article would be irrelevant if we were all going to talk about plans we had to fight for.
They wouldn’t need to advertise plans if everyone was willing to barter and haggle to get decent rates.

you can call them to bargin if you don’t have it already
but i will wait for fido to actually post the plans out before you call in to talk to the rep
see, what they explain to me before
is that you can change plans but not switch carriers
and that’s the ‘agreement’ part

You better call them, they aren’t going to let you know that it is cheaper now Again as I mentioned to customers before, CALL THEM ANd more importantly email them tell them how you feel and what you want and explain competition. why does fido charge $35 a month for unlimted local talk and text with NO VOICEMAIL OR CALLER ID, when rogers chatr (who also owns fido, same networks), charges the same amount for UNLIMITED CANADA WIDE CALLINg, UNLIMITED TEXT AND UNLIMITED VOICEMAIL!
I will say the one advantage to fido is they keep their customers on their old monthly plans if they expire (retention) wheras chatr could change it at any time.

@Andy: Don’t listen to people who have no clue what they’re talking about. You can call and change your plan at any time, without penalty. Go ahead and give FidoAnswers a ring to change your plan, they’ll be more than happy to, and won’t require you sign on for another two years.

Your minutes are still not Canada-Wide. All you need to better compete with New Entrants is to increase the $15/$20 plans by 50 minutes and include call display

@Big3: Actually the newly revamped $15 value pack now has 50 long distance minutes in it.. That’s in addition to the unlimited picture messaging, call display, enhanced voicemail, whocalled, 2500 call forwarding minutes, and name display (which nobody else has). But I’m sure people will still find something to complain about. That’s all people do around here.

If you are an existing customer you can get the new plans as well. Simply give our system a few days to finish updating then come into your local Fido store, or call into Fido Answers to have your plan changed to the latest version.

I gotta give kudos to Telus. They brought out the new Canada-wide koodo plans out of nowhere. Finally, some change in the Canadian wireless market. I am really surprised Rogers decided to come up with this as their response, I mean they didn’t even match koodo….

So in other words, not competing with koodo at all. Pathetic. Almost as bad as their new, more expensive data plan.
BTW, anyone heard anything about zoned data from Rogers/Fido/Chatr?

City Fido is only available in the larger cities. (vancouver, Toronto etc…) People who don’t live in those places don’t have the option to go with a City Fido plan.

WHY PAY $35 + $10 amonth for caller id and voicemail a month for “select cites”at a total of $45 a month for unlimited local talk when you can pay much less on ROGERS CHATR (SAME COMPANY AS FIDO) and get unlimted text, unlimted voicemaila nd caller id for $35 a month?!?! Same cities.?!?!?!? so you can add data? you can now do this on chatr (which is arip off and am not interested in), it makes little sense to me.

CityFido is zoned. Zoning is a bogus, artificial limitation pioneered by Fido but copied by other Canadian discount carriers. Koodo seems to have dropped their zones. Rogers, through Fido, still loves the concept if zones. CityFido could as easily be renamed “Easy money from suckers” plan.

Wind/mobi ‘zones’ are a result of still building their network. You have access to their entire network with no limitations. As their network coverage grows so does your access. Fido on the otherhand takes the full Rogers network and artificially segments it, so as to purposely reduce the value of the plans. At least they responded to Wind/mobi by making their CF plans good in other CF zones. Until the new carriers came, your CF minutes were only good in your home CF zone. But of course the shrank the size of the zones to reduce the plan value and make it more likely you will incur out of zone charges.
Just wait till they roll out zoned data.

unless you really need the extra 50 mins LOCAL daytime and unlimited starting at 5 go koodo

Even if you are stuck with Fido, don’t do it Andy. Fido has among the worst plans in Canada and these prove they are trying hard to keep it that way. If you are going to call in anyway, call in and ask to find out how much you cancelation fees are. This will get you into retentions. Then work out a plan that doesn’t make make you bleed.
See here to see what you can get from Fido if you simply say the word ‘cancel’

It’s too bad Fido wants you to beg to get their half way decent plans.

Fido’s 5pm evenings and weekends is a joke….lol..who wants to wait till 5pm to make a call is beyond me. with koodo they have city koodo which gives unlimited local calling 24/7, and unlimited text and picture messaging. And if you call koodo’s retentions they will give you 6gb of data for $25 per month, and throw in caler Id and voicemail for free.and plus Koodo has no zones, take your phone with you anywhere in Canada no long distance. koodo is way way better value for your money. Fido is joking with still a pitiful 5pm calling period, specially with all this competition out there now, and all they do is this, what a shame.

o_O I left Fido because I can get a Koodo $20 monthly plan (100 min., 7pm unlim, Can-wide) + $10 pack (VM, unlim. text, call disp.) + $25 data (2GB)… Total $55 a month. Current Fido plans cannot match this package even with the new “deal”. I don’t need more minutes, I need more data without being locked into a city “zone”. Here I thought: “Oops, perhaps I left too early.” Turns out I didn’t.

I wonder how many people in marketing at Rogers/Fido get fired over this. I know if I was Nadir and saw this pathetic response to a main competitor and their well advertised plans, I would clean house. I’d want competent people in such an important role.

National Long Distance, when in reference to a cellular network, is a myth. Cellular phones are meant to be portable, and no matter where in Canada you are, they connect to the same network. So anyone impressed that KOODO can offer Canada Wide “Local Calling” shouldn’t be impressed. It’s not costing them any more to do it.
