Rogers Q2 2011 results: Subscriber base increases by 135,000, now totals 9,127,000


Rogers reported their Q2 2011 results today and announced they brought in 135,000 new subscribers (108,000 Postpaid and 27,000 Prepaid subs). Majority of the new wireless subs were smartphones and Rogers stated that this combined with customers upgrades represented approximately 591,000 smartphone activations (“predominantly iPhone, BlackBerry and Android devices”). According to the report smartphones now represent 48% of the all postpaid subscribers (it was 35% Q2 2010).Rogers now has 9,127,000 total wireless subscribers.

With high smartphones sales leads high data revenue numbers. Rogers wireless data revenue increased by about 31% to $572 million (now sitting at $1,114 million for the year). Data revenue now represents 34%, of the total network revenue (up from 27% in 2010). ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) is $60.26 and decreasing because of “competitive intensity”. Last year in Q2 2010 it was $63.27. Postpaid ARPU is $70.07 and Prepaid is $16.14.

“Rogers delivered a solid performance in the second quarter both for financial and subscriber results, delivering solid growth in a highly competitive environment,” said Nadir Mohamed, President and Chief Executive Officer of Rogers Communications Inc. “The strength of our asset mix combined with successful execution on our priorities – wireless data growth, customer retention and managing our cost structure – enabled Rogers to generate continued strong margins and substantial free cash flow.”
