Twitter for Android app version 2.1 now available, brings push notifications and multiple accounts

Twitter has upgraded their Android app to version 2.1. This is big news as it finally brings push both notifications and the ability to add multiple accounts, something users have been requesting for months now. To download this you’ll need to have Android OS 2.1 or higher. If supporting the official app is not your thing, there’s always reputable 3rd party apps such as TWIDROYD, Plume and TweetDeck.

  1. The Android Twitter app is great in my opinion. Twitter doesn’t really have a choice though since their API is available for everyone.. if their app wasn’t excellent, alternatives could take over.

Sadly, this is not the case with Facebook as it doesn’t have an open API.. so in the end Android users are stuck with the quite poor Facebook app.

  2. The update is great, but Plume is still my favourite Twitter client.

  3. I like tweetdeck becuase then i can put separate columns for trends (not sure if you can do that in the twitter app). That and i connects to my facebook account so i can actually get notifications since the stock one blows

  6. I like the new version of the app but the thing that keeps me wanting to stay with an app like Plume is that it saves #s and opens them for you to choose from when you type a #.

That being said – push notification is VERY attractive so it might win the day.

They are currently fighting an epic battle for my affection.

  7. Not being able to log out is annoying, and since this update every tweet is sent to drafts and I can’t delete it once it’s in there!
