Videotron customers can now donate to charities via text message

An agreement was announced today that Videotron customers can now support registered charities through text donations. The dollar amounts are either $5 or $10 and it’ll appear on your wireless statement and billed as a tax-exempt transaction.

Bernard Lord, MGFC Chair and CWTA President stated that “On behalf of the Mobile Giving Foundation Canada, I extend our appreciation to Videotron for their efforts in providing this new mobile channel for their customers to support their favourite causes. Canadians have overwhelmingly embraced the power of mobile giving, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for more than 100 registered charities in the past year alone.”

  1. Excellent idea! Having an easy medium is the best way to get people to give.

  2. Ok dont take this the wrong way, I believe in a great cause a giving to charity, but the big question is, how much of the donation is Videotron going to keep for themselves?

    • Yep, that’s what we should all ask. And until we known we should avoid donating money this way because I fear Videotron takes a too big chunk.
